Rad Power vs Himiway vs Aventon Fat Tire Electric Adventure Bikes (FULL REVIEW)

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Here is the full review of three top Fat Tire Electric Adventure Bikes: Aventon vs Himiway vs Rad Power. All three bikes sell for well under $2000
The electric bike market in the US is finally happening, and we compare and contrast three of the off road leaders: the Rad Power version 5, the Aventon Adventure, and the Himiway All Terrain Electric Fat Tire Bike.
All of these electric adventure, all terrain bikes have similar prices, but there are big differences between the Aventon, the Rad Power and the Himiway. We take a look at the brake systems, the integration of the power supply, the drive train, and the tires. But a big decider might be fit. While Rad Power and Himiway are one size fits all, the Aventon offers three sizes of the standard frame and 2 sizes of the step-through version. If you are shorter or taller than average, this might be a game changer.
You can purchase the Aventon E-Bikes at Bumstead's in Ontario, California subject to availability. But you can also buy Aventon E-Bikes online by going to this link.

I've had my Himiway step-thru for a year now, and here in Canada I've got 1,000 km's on it now, had zero problems, and very much enjoy riding it. I have changed the seat to a Cloud 9 seat, which is comfortable but it's squeaking like crazy, so I may switch it out for another. I also changed my brakes to hydraulic, albeit the stock brakes worked fine, they just needed adjustment more often. I do love the ability on the Himiway to use the USB at the bottom of the screen to keep my iPhone charged, as I often run with an app that runs the phone down over the hours of riding. I also added a 'skid plate' which fits nicely over the controller, keeping dust, dirt, water etc. from it for more protection. The headlight is awesome, possibly one of the best on e-bikes of this price range! I've seen more than one individual now, with over 10,000 miles on their Himiways e-bikes, of which they are still happy with them, giving me some solace of longevity. I should mention as well, my wife has a RAD city plus, which she loves riding, but recently the battery stopped allowing a charge, and after answering all Rad's questions, and sending a video in showing the issue, has a new battery being sent out, so RAD certainly seems to step up to the plate when you have an issue. Also, RAD has one of the very best KZread video's, from their technician, on how to adjust the rear cassette/gears if you start hearing an odd sound, as there are times slight adjustments are needed. I will mention, those that have bought the Himiway e-bikes have had to re-sell them at a slight loss, as they are (as is the Rad shown here) as they are quite high, and I too am 5' 10" and if sitting on the seat, I can 'just' touch the ground with my toe, but usually slide forward off the seat (thanks to being a step-thru) get my pedal ready for an easy ability to take off again. One thing not mentioned here (don't know if it's possible with the RAD or Aventon) you can re-program the screen! It comes with a 1 to 5 pedal assist, but I've chosen 1 to 7 assist, and you can have 1 to 9 assist if you prefer! With the 1 to 5, sometimes going from one assist level to the next is too much power for the speed you want, so spreading them out (works in percentages of power) gives a lower boost of power in between pedal assists. I should mention as well, I've added 'Flat-Out' to my tubes (product goes into the tubes via the air stem) and I've never had a flat tire, of which I'm thankful for! Stay safe everyone!!

Had so much trouble with Himiway. They tried to replace my faulty motor 3 times instead of letting me ship the bike back for a replacement. Took 6 months and I had to take it to a mechanic to replace. Then, still didn’t work and they wanted me to buy another one and return the old one before they would send me a new one. I think they’re customer service is in China? Just get something local because Himiway doesn’t know how to fix their problems.

The grip throttle on the Rad is similar to motorcycles. Nobody has a problem with the throttle, stopped, walking, or going. For buyers who also own motorcycles, it makes perfect sense. For people crossing over to motorcycles, it makes great sense. For the 1% who don't know to keep their hand off the throttle when dorking around...survival of the fittest.

He will give you excellent customer service and will answer all of your questions. I am so glad I bought the right e-bike for me at Bumstead’s Bike Shop! P.S. I very recently bought a 750 watt beach cruiser e-bike (another brand) with a frame that is too large for me and I am selling it for that reason. I would have been quite happy with that e-bike if the frame wasn’t too tall for me. Although my other e-bike is very good, my Aventon Aventure out-performs and out-classes it in every way!

Getting a test ride with a joke there isn't really anywhere to ride except in the parking lot. Has busy traffic in front. They acted like they were not experienced with their own bikes. I asked a couple who didn't even ride bikes to work from not far away. It left a bad feeling when I left I won't return. I do like the Eventon dealer who's much much closer and has more choices. Even has 1 year free mobile service by his van if you get a flat or stuck for any issues.I think that's the best way to purchase even though you may get a discount online. The cat. I like the cat! Lloyd is spot on regarding the hydraulic brakes over the mechanical cable pulls - frankly, there is no comparison, and especially with heavier bikes. A rear cassette such as on the Aventon is a big, big feature because of function and durability. Last, the clunk battery and controller locations of the Rad and Himiway make the construction/design of the bikes seem like an after thought. In contrast, the Aventon is well thought out, and three bike size options implies they are serious about building bikes. Aventon has more usable handle grips than the "sissy" grips on the other two. Easy change out.

It’s crazy, a dealer who doesn’t mention the best feature that you can get with an ebike. You can buy through a dealer and not just online. If you buy online you have to assemble and tune. That’s where a lot of novice people have problems. They think they have it right and when they ride it they make problems because it is not adjusted and tuned correctly. If you buy online and have a warranty issues you have to diagnose and request parts and fix yourself. And after warranty most bike shops including the Aventon dealers don’t work on online purchase bikes. Imagine buying your car and no dealer warranty and no repair garage would work on it.

These are not serious off-road bikes, and he knows this. They are OK for light trails, and limited hills. Serious mountain biking would tear these up in one day - guaranteed! That said, the one you choose and ride will be the one you like. Any of these three are good products, and much made by the same facilities - not trusted brands of serious bicycle manufacturing backgrounds but good enough for the target market. However, great presentation, and especially the candor about tires. Hre in Arizona there are little thorns everywhere...they even blow around in the wind. I've owned many road and mountain bikes. I would buy a bike from Lloyd Bumstead.

Those that get a lot of flat tires, try using 'Flat-out', as I've not had a flat tire in my 1,000 kilometres of riding. Also, we where just in an area where these 'thorns' where everywhere, and prior to riding (they stuck in the tire from our vehicle to the roadway 10' away) but upon riding both mine and my wife's e-bikes have 'Flat-Out' in our tubes, and have never had a flat tire. There is a good KZread video on the many different solutions to flat tires, and Flat Out bypassed them all, and can be bought on Amazon.

Two things to consider that he didn’t mention. 1. A battery that is easily removed can be taken into a restaurant, bookstore or coffee shop and some charge added back to the battery while out on longer trips. 2. Many bikes live in the garage, which can be very hot or very cold. That’s not good for a battery. Room temperature is better for a battery especially when charging. Charging in a hot garage may shorten battery life. Those things are not cheap.

We've gone on rides where we've ridden all day, other than for a lunch break or to take a photo, and neither myself nor my wife have ran down the battery significantly (Himiway and RAD). It's good to remember as well, take into consideration the AH (amp hours) of the bike's battery, as the higher it is, the longer the power will last.
