Pushing 77 years here with breathing problems. Needed exercise and there's a 45 mile paved bike path within a half mile of my house. I bought a RadRover 6 Plus step-through (stumpy legs) figuring that when my lungs said "Enough!" I could still get home. I expected that I'd be using heavy pedal assist and/or throttle a lot. Turns out that I'm usually on 2 for pedal assist and only use a bit of throttle on nastier hills. I typically do about a 10-12 mile loop, but have been stretching it out as I get more familiar and comfortable with the bike. The stock saddle and my butt had significant differences of opinion. Cheap and easy enough to change.

I have 13,300 miles on my Rad ST 1 step through. Same chain, original battery. Although I do have a backup battery. I rarely ride on dirt.

My husband and I have had ebikes for at least 5 years. I ride every chance I get! A few things we’ve experienced that I’d like to share: we always take the batteries off before loading them. It cuts the weight considerably, especially if you’re petite like I am. The Hollywood rack works well but it dulls and starts rusting. Not right away but within a couple years. After 5 years ours is looking pretty rough. Putting a cover over both bikes on the back of a vehicle (suv) will block the tail lights. Not a good thing!! People were not happy with us! Besides that they are just a blast!! It’s one of the best purchases I’ve made.

Very informative video! I've loved those gnarly bikes since your first e-bike video. I'm not surprised they have totally improved your RV lifestyle. What a fantastic and complete review! I have a Rad Mini 4 and it performs just like your ebike and the only two things I can add is that if your wrists hurt lower your tire pressure to 25 lbs for a less shocking ride on your wrists. Moreover, the front shock is adjustable. Put it on the softest setting to help protect your wrists…Additionally, you can make important changes on your display to increase your top speed from 19-20mph to 22 to 25mph depending on your weight. It takes less than a minute…HUGE improvement!!! I’ll add it to this reply…. Looks like the video has been taken down or made private…but here’s how you do it from my memory: 1. Power up bike 2. Press center button for new screen (wheel size…do not change) 3. Push center button once to access speed screen 4. Press top button several times until you reach “40”. 5. Press center button one time to save new setting….you’re going to be blown Away!

You're a speed demon, lol. I wouldn't go higher than 18 psi even for urban riding... more like 5-8 for sandy trails. That's tubed, don't want a pinch flat. Tubeless, 2-3 psi is great for off road and snow. 😊

That's a tough call. My wife really likes her step through over mine, but I really prefer the ergonomics of the standard. When I ride hers I feel like I'm sitting too straight up and not in a more mountain bike stance leaning a bit forward. If that makes any sense........ maybe I'm a bit tall at 6'2" for the step through. I think it really comes down to preference.

The Brooks saddles I've seen had ZERO padding. I prefer the wider gel saddles for comfort. I also use a suspension seat post because the Rad 5 is a hardtail.

Ah, we had Lectric bikes. They were fun but a bit "quirky" to us - I think because they're a scooter style - turning wasn't great on them - had to really slow down otherwise we felt like we would fall right off. We sold them and might get a mountain bike style electric bike in the future. :)

5500 on my Rad City in just shy of three years! I would have had zero miles on a analog bike! Running great and still get 40 plus mile per charge using pas 1 and 2 most of the time.

Just turned 3000 mi. On my Rad City. No issues at all😎. Only thing I do is keep tires pressured and clean and lube chain. Gonna replace brake pads however still solid braking, GO RAD👍. Anxious to see your new Outdoors RV, keep up the great vids Update on Rad. Crashed mine wen front wheel went off trail. No damage to bike unfortunately I wasn’t as fortunate. Broken collarbone, fractured shoulder and 5 ribs. Messed up our planned trip to Michigan UP. All healed now and ready to continue adventures.

Love your video and the fact that you are showing the exact same bike I have which is the Rad Rover Step Thru 1 (2021) model. I love my bike and have 1,400 miles on it after 1 full year. I do want to know where you got that "pouch that you use for bike repairs" and also the "flat tire repair item" that you have ? Also, one thing I want to point out for those that are in their 60's and older and may have inherited Osteoarthritis, Bad Knees, High Cholesterol (kidding - but really) and put on an extra 50 pounds from the time you were single with no kids and running 4 miles a day and had total control over your life to afterwards getting married and having kids with having to make "lot's of sacrifices with your time" and thus gaining weight (sorry just ranting lol !!) - these bikes are a godsend for getting you outdoors for adventure and excercise !! One thing to be aware of though for seniors is that realistically you are pretty much going to be "on your own" (unless you live in a trendy downtown like Seattle where Rad Power bikes can send out their van service which 99.99% of us "do not live" ) these bikes do take some maintenance and are not like regular bikes of (the bike racks either) and truthfully can be a little complicated with things such as brakes getting loose a little to easy requiring you to self train yourself by reading the manuals, watching video's, or spending half of your day trying to reach Rad Power Bikes on the phone. Not only that but the Hollywood Racks - once you get your hitch on your car and the UHaul place puts your racks on - you will have to get out the manual again to figure out how to adjust your rack to get your bike on securely because it's not the easiest bike rack to figure out or use. Just wanted to put that in there - it's something you will face and chances are you will be on your own to figure everything out. Also, I use PAS 3 and once in a little while use the throttle and am in decent shape but am in my 60's and drive on fairly flat terrain and only get about a total of 25 miles per full charge. I do not understand how anyone is getting 50 miles on a full charge unless you are on PAS 0 or 1 and on a paved surface. Either people are not being truthful or they are extreme lightweights. That being said I do love my bike but with experience for those above 60 years of age be aware they are some mechanical and technical issues with these bikes and racks that you probably have never experienced with normal bikes and racks.

I purchased my rad runner on Black Friday with their special bundle deal and had the fella who works on my old coal furnace assemble it for me in January and then my dog died 2-12-21 and I almost died to a few times so my bike remains untouched still... and I’m in the process of selling my little guy Max trailer that also remains winterized... When ya loose your health ya loose your dreams unfortunately... Well I must be thankful to still be breathing but oh do I miss my little Katie pug ... she was parents dog and they both passed away and she was soo special to me... well all I can do is hope someone is looking for my camper and hope one day I can take a bike ride and hope I don’t take a spill 😱 That would probably incapacitate me considering the shape I’m in but hey you two keep me smiling and I’m excited to watch your adventures and so proud of both of you for tackling life and rolling with the punches! Yeah the bikes are cool fun to ride… Nobody gets exercise from them. Would never get rid of my car. I might use the car less but I would never get rid of it. My car is how I get the bike to other places. The petals are there just to get your home in case you run out of power for the most part. Pedal assist is nice but I hardly ever see anybody do it. Good review… Glad you’re having fun with them

Your wrists will hurt more when you death-grip the grips. Next time you're in washed out or really rough terrain, try standing on your pedals, it'll lower the center of gravity and using the throttle and a much lighter grip will relieve that stress on your wrists. It's how they do dirt bikes minimize that input the bike will be fine and your wrists will thank you

I've been a bike commuter for my 530 miles and it's great for the ride 10 miles away. I can get to the other side of my county on half a charge.

Nice comprehensive review! We are looking to do the same exact set up! One thing I haven’t seen, maybe you could do it in the future, is some hill climbs…

That's a great idea! I will say for big hills you need to gear low and put the peddle assist on high. You can only full throttle( no pedal) up small or medium sized hills and I think the bikes could tackle most big hills in the low gear high PAS. We walked up Lombard street in SF, but only to save on battery power.

as long as the bike is light enough. and you dont have to carry it up stairs. unless strong enough. Need extra chains if using a mid drive. battery dont go far. always carry extra bat and tires or patches.

I have xt60 plug on control box and three battery’s i swap out on a ride. I keep the two spare in the panniers and the one I’m using strapped to the top of the rear luggage rack. Simple to swap battery on rack for fresh one from pannier bag plug in xt60 connecter and off i go again. I have a good 120 mile range and it takes about one minuit to swap battery’s

This info might be helpful for me. I can afford one but I’m “older”. Getting them on and off a bike rack might be difficult to impossible. You would have to not leave them unattended for a second, theft-hot as they are.

Top Notch reviews, Rad Bikes should at least compensate all your efforts for test and shares . Looking forward to see your travels and experiences in the new Tent?

Sounds like you need dual battery bikes. Several of them out there. Otherwise, buy a couple of spare batteries, strap them on, then swap them out as needed. Good review of accessories.

Hi Chris and Aaron!! What a great and informative "update" video!! Thank you for sharing this info. These e-bikes look really awesome and practical! I "think" we're going to hold off until after we get the trailer. But, fact of the matter is we just may wait until next spring once the Rocky Mountain winter begins to depart. I'm still on the fence with regards to what make to get. These look awesome. They probably are the bottom of the motor/battery capability that I'd go. I have a football player build, so feel that I need at least the 750w motor, as well as a bigger capacity battery such as 18 or 20 amp hours. I like everything that you've described about the Rad's. The other component I have to be conscious about is that my wife's wrists get sore very easy. So, if the bike doesn't come set up that way, I'd probably have to add a handlebar mounting bracket that is more extended to allow her to sit in a more relaxed position vice leaning forward with weight on wrists. I emailed with Dean the other day. I had him talk with ORV to get an update. He indicated they are still looking at a September build :-( I'm guessing that will mean an October-ish delivery. Bleh! Hey Alan! Ebikes are definitely a fun way to travel around! I have heard the smaller folding ebikes can be difficult on some peoples wrists because of the ergonomics on them. Hopefully you guys can try a few out to see what is comfortable and powerful enough for you. The Mountain series 22FQs should start in July and when they actually do then we will get a better time frame on our Titanium's. I'm still hoping for an August build! We'll see!

But, between my wifes wrists and the normally smaller motor/battery, I suspect the folding ones are not in our future. I've got a flight to CA this week. I'm going to see if the Juiced plant has a demo bike to try out. Ok.....I am right next to you two in hoping for an August build!! It would be sweet to get the rig in September as it is nice AF in the area here and we'd still have time to get a trip or two in our local area before having to push out more to the desert for winter ops.

Great video however all your wish lists albeit good, are about the electronics and battery. Battery by Samsung and Electronics are plug and play Bafang

can you buy a spare battery and carry it with you to double your range. Also in shorter ride areas you can leave on on the charger and put exchange the batteries at the beginning of the new day.

Another great video! When you’re boondocking, do you charge the batteries after riding your bikes, or wait until you’re plugged in somewhere? We’ll be without power for several days while camping in the Tetons and will be using our bikes. We have upgraded the solar and switched to lithium batteries.

Thanks Cathy! We have charged our batteries while boondocking but most of the time our bikes will last the whole time we are out since we only boondocked for a around a week or less. With the new RV we'll be able to go longer so we might be charging more. Ofccourse it depends how much you ride but 40 miles goes a long way. Have fun in the Tetons!!

Just get an AC/DC converter for your vehicle and use the 12v battery in your vehicle to charge the ebike battery.

You guys will love them more once you upgrade, New controller, New color display, A true 750 W motor easy to install, A 52 V battery👍 Watch Citizen cycle on KZread he goes step-by-step in upgrading his RadRover I did the same thing, in fact I have two 52v 20 amp hour batteries running in parallel with a DateX 2 regulating and sipping from the batteries you have to order your DateX2 from London, a English chap runs the site and is very helpful ,I talked to him over the phone though for me it was late at night for him it was morning 🧐 I can now get 80+ miles by having the two batteries and the bike will do 35 miles an hour, and I don’t have to pedal anymore? If I want exercise I use my regular bike. PS wonderful video God bless you guys🙏😇 PS again🥺 if I’m stressed out G who would be stressed out nowadays lol, I get on my hopped up Rad and ride brings me a lot of peace and brings me closer to God, ☝️ you believers will get what I’m saying.😇 The bikes are a great escape from the Covid worries.

They do have 2 different models, one that goes with their rack and one that velcros on to any rack. This should be the velcro amzn.to/2VNLgeK We used it with the rad brand racks.

What size cover did you get, we have the same bikes. Trying to decide if we need to size up to xxl since Rads are bigger than normal bikes. Thanks awesome video as usual.

Hey there! We stay away from that type of weather for sure 🥶, but we know you can ride e bikes in the winter time. I think the battery capacity does diminish a little bit when it's that cold, but the biggest thing for lithium batteries is you can't charge them below freezing. So you just need to charge up inside!

I will be getting one. Just have to make up my mind... Take an extra battery 🔋 Boom 100 mile distance

I have a "main vein" gel seat, but still... ouch. So I added a 12" real sheep fleece buffer bonnet from Farm&Fleet, man what a difference, like night and day.

You could get another battery pack and double your range. I know those are pricy but sounds worth it to me.

Thanks, good review. Curious, you just changed from Van Life to Tremor offroad capability. Can you talk about why? Empty nesters, just bought RadRover6's, excited for them to arrive. But also investigating retirement travel options. I've been leaning Tremor with Truck Camper, wife is enomoured with the Sprinters. Thoughts?

Hey guys 👋, congrats on the rovers6 and your new lifestyle research! We mainly changed from a van to a truck and small travel trailer ( coming in a month or so), just to change up our travel style and get more space and tank sizes. We lived and worked fulltime in a 22ft sprinter for 2.5 years and while it was probably the best years of our lives.......it just started to get a little too small. I would say a truck camper and a sprinter will be a very similar sized space and tank sizes. But both give you a different style of travel. The sprinter van can be an easier, faster paced travel which is great if you want to travel quickly and see big cites as well parks/ campgrounds, boondocking..etc. The van is a bit more stealthy and better in tight areas. I feel the truck camper is better for off road with much better ground clearance and also gives you the option to leave the camper parked and take the truck out. Lots of different setups for both and it really just depends on how you are going to travel. Hope that helps and good luck!

Hopefully I’m not too late to help. I grew up in travel trailers and have spent my whole life around RVs and camper vans of all kinds. When you’re looking to full time any RV, there are some specific issues to look for. For example, some brands do not build solid floors in their ultralight trailers to save weight. The floor can become squishy and no supportive within months. Also, many manufacturer warranties are voided if full timing. 100%, go to forums and also look for a master RV technician. Traveling techs deal with full timers constantly, so they know which ones can hold up to daily use.

Just maybe, you've covered how to load a ebike, but hint anyways...line up your ebike to the rack, apply the rear brake only, now pull back lifting the front and put the front tire into the tire holder, now holding the ebike somewhat just lift the rear tire and put into tire holder. Strap as necessary. Reverse the process when unloading. If you need a video let me know.

All’s great except I can’t buy the 6+ step through, every store I’ve called is out of stock until after October, I had one that was on hold two weeks ago but they didn’t call me back. I tend to think that they are currently having Customer service problems. Especially at the Salt Lake City store. Maybe

You can get an aftermarket bike alarm. There's one called the Wsdcam 113dB Bike Alarm that is about $17 on Amazon. It'll give that little chirp you were talking about. And fyi, most grocery stores should allow you to use your bike like a cart and load up your panniers as you shop. So you should be able to bring it in while you shop instead of worrying about it being safe outside. One the pros of having panniers or a basket.

You are definitely one disconnected one from normal society: a bike in a grocery store ? With kids running around and the elderly ? How long before you hit a pyramid of cans or cases of beers, what will you say after that: oh, I'm so sorry ? Buy a lock, or two if you want too but get out of stores, you crazy like a fox, for sure ! 😡

@@daltonx6177 I've never brought a bike into a store. It is a thing I've heard mentioned on other channels and how they use panniers in lieu of a shopping cart or hand basket. I'd imagine it'd be a quick popping in for a few things. But thank you for letting me know that I'm a terrible horrible being who should probably go die somewhere. I have had my bike for three years and 4000 miles. No problems other than a flat tire.

I find that when riding on a paved bike path, I don’t need to use the bell. The sound of those fat tires cause people to turn around to see why there’s a dump truck bearing down on them.

This video along with a lot of your vids was very informative. I’m wondering, could an ex mountain bike girl who hasn’t been on a bike in 15+ years and is out of shape and 52 yr old (5’6”) women use this bike to get back into shape?

If you haven't been on a bike in 15 years, you are absolutely going to love ebikes. So fun, and can be a catalyst to your fit journey!☺

They can do hills, but the steeper and longer, they will obviously use more power. They said, we did about 50 miles in the hills of San Francisco and it was great! We do have a video if you search irene iron travels san Francisco.

So would a 5'7" person fit the straight bar bike or is the step thru a better choice?

You could go either way at 5'7. I think the the height range is 5'4 - 6'2. My wife is also 5'7 and she says she is perfectly comfortable riding the high step. But it really depends on your preference and comfort level on getting on and off. If you are used to standard high step bikes and are comfortable that might be the way to go.

How is the aftermarket taillights and license plate holder attached to the bike hitch rack? Are there bolt holes already on the frame or did you have tap drill ones yourself?

@@IreneIronTravels thanks! Those Hollywood racks are hard to get and always sold out. Looking at the KAC racks which are pretty much the same thing, even a little cheaper. Definitely want to add taillights and license plate holder, as to not attract attention from bored cops. Great review! I love my Radrover and have outfitted it with a lot of cool accessories and mods.

I think so.....There will probably be a few times we'd rather take the truck for whatever reason. I can think of a few early morning bike rides to the gym where it was raining or one week in Arizona it was in the 30's in the morning bike rides!

It would be ideal to be able to charge as you are peddling

I wondered about that too. I think the reason they don't do it is because you wouldn't generate enough power pedalling to charge the batteries to any significant degree. Still, even a little charge would be apreciated I'm sure. :)

Hello! We have the Team Obsidian XL (2 bike stationary) amzn.to/3MqCGqW It is a bit tight but works. The "transportation " model is a little bit looser of a fit with drawstrings and we will probably go with that in the future.

Hello! Yes, most people do remove the battery I've heard, but we just never did because we didn't really have a space to store the batteries. If that weight includes a rack (about 50lbs ish) than it might be tough with ebikes. I think they weigh around 60ish lbs with no batteries. Hope that helps!

Yes, you definitely can but the down sides are lugging around an extra 8lb battery and they are $550 for them. But it is certainly an option.

How fast do u go

I'm suprised after 6 months you only have 500 miles on those bikes. I mean with the battery size that you have it should be like 10 rides Maybe 13. Edit: I'm further reflection I think I see what I'm doing wrong here. I assume every time you take the bike out your goal is to go as far as the battery will take you. You just take it out and go a couple miles down the road and then go sip some coffee or get some groceries and then come back. So maybe it's super useful for you to only Ride 4 miles in a day and it's like thank God we have this bike. I get a day off and I take my bike out as far as I can take it in 8 hours. I think if I bought my wife a bike it would be one of these.

I’m 5’2” and 73 years with bilateral hip replacements. Looking at Pedego Boomarang to take with me traveling with my new Winnebago View. Do you or any of your viewers have experience with this brand?

We don't have any experience with Pedego, but they look like a quality bike. The ultra low step through also looks like it would be a very easy bike to get on and off. Just keep in mind the heavy weight of all e bikes. Enjoy!! 😁

@@IreneIronTravels Yeah, what is it with electric bikes being so heavy? Apart from the battery, I'd think the weight would be more normal if they used a standard trail bike frame and tires. Maybe it's a cost and/or trend thing? Just thinking out loud, here. :)

If all those ebike companies will stop giving out free bikes for promotional purposes, they'll have enough of them to sale to serious buyers.

By the looks of your rotors , it looks like you have 5000 miles on those bikes lol. I have a KBO breeze with over 700 miles, and it still looks brand new.

I want one of these ebike especially the step through if there is any glassy black. But they don't ship to United Kingdom. Why? The rad ebike is bom send me one of the step through
