Hi. Your Amazon Link to the Pro Bike Tool bike cover is the non transport one. Can you link the transport one? We have the exact bikes you have and were wondering if 2 rad rovers, because they're so big, would fit in the transport cover for 2, or wouldwe needtogo bigger. Can you clarify? Thank you.

Hello Susie! It looks like Amazon is out of the travel version XL (2 bike ), which is what we have. Amazon changes our links when the original item is out of stock! We have the RadRover 5 and the RadRover ST and the XL travel fits them nice and snug. I think the XXL might be a bit too big and loose.

Great video with a lot of good tips! I know this is an older video but just wanted to point out we used to have that same bike rack and it pained me watching the maneuvers to get 70lb ebikes racked, it got to the point (for us older peeps) that we stopped using our ebikes as much because hated racking them everytime until we upgraded our bike rack ...... there are 2 versions of racks out there that are effortless and very quick that both bikes are on or off in 30 seconds...... the 1UP bike rack holds 80lbs in each bike tray and the QuickerStuff quick rack holds up to 120lbs and the quick rack also has a very simple ramp for those of us that dont like squating with 70lb bikes lol. They can be a bit pricier but worth it to us as now we make much more use of our ebikes with the easy access to them but you won't find these specialty racks on etrailer or at retail outlets.. We have put about 12k miles on the 1UP rack and love it so much more than any other rack we have used. Truly effortless We also found that we would have to replace our travel cover every few thousand miles because it would start shredding and this might be different with every vehicle setup depending on the vehicle aerodynamics and wind shear hitting the bikes but our first remedy was to use bungee straps to tighten up any area in the cover that had slack - but the final solution was to get a 5x7 cargo net that we put over the travel cover to keep the cover very tight against the bikes and less exposed to wind shear and haven't had to replace it since. When securing the bikes we have heavy chain from under vehicle securing the bike rack and then each bike has 1 ABUS folding locks and 2 ABUS Heavy Duty U Lock -the Abus Granit Ulock and the Abus SmartX Ulock we use has an alarm built in and a security factor of 15/15. We all know there is no fail safe lock when it comes to bike security but we feel more comfortable knowing any attempt to take our ebikes will make a lot of noise and take more than 5 minutes with a grinder and be enough deterrent to move on to next bikes. Even with the excess locks and the alarm we use for security - the greatest deterrent is keeping your bikes covered as much as possible. At night we always have our bikes covered and use the Abus SmartX lock so that if anyone attempts to remove the cover the SmartX alarm will go off. We have had a lot of friends lose their valuable bikes over the years and enjoy being able to sleep better with the extra security. Happy Trails!

I keep my Rad Rover inside my van, and never leave it unattended, even if I have to enlist (or pay) someone when I go in a store or to work out at the gym. Too many opportunists getting free e-bikes these days. I can't afford to replace mine, so I'm vigilant, and a thief is risking being shot.

Awesome video guys. Fun to watch and very educational. I have the rad stepthru. One thing that I purchased was an alarm for my bike. I have to think that if someone was trying to steel my ebike that an extremely high pitched alarm would make them run off. It cost me $16.00 and is very sensitive to movement of the bike, mounts anywhere a flat surface is available, I have mine mounted on the front bar just under my handle bars. And it has a remote control that you can take with you when you go into a store. Its awesome, something to consider..My kids have had all 3 of their bikes stolen in November from inside a vehicle so nothing is full proof but anything to make it less desirable helps. I'm a firm believer in alarms.

Great review. Been considering Rad Power Bikes for some time. Love the rear rack and expandable bag. Nice helmet too. An additional security idea - make your bikes unique with graphics or a different color tire. If it does get stolen, it will be more easily identifiable by the registered community. I did have questions about the fit which you answered. Nice.

Nice tutorial and thanks! I was going to ask about the Pro Cover but found my answer in the comments. What I didn't see, was any comment about the mounting onto the rack. So, for the folks just getting setup with ebikes and RV's, ......these bikes are heavy, and the type of rack you choose can be significant. Your method, for that rack, seems to work well and I will try it with my USA ONE even though my rack is much higher off the ground. At 74, I can still lift the entire weight of our Rad Mini foldables onto my rack, but I've found removing the battery, seat post and Topeak bag (with it's 15 Lbs of locks and junk) to be pretty helpful. Plus, you get to charge the batteries going down the road :) I like the looks of that Pro Cover! I've been useing my old Goldwing MC cover that covers both bikes including the wheels. Hopefully thieves will think there's a motorcyce under it :) Also, I have to say I liked your Black Tank video.........good tips!

Another great video you guys! We were on our Rads today as we had a nice sunny day here in the PNW. I like that Topeak bag. Thinking one will probably do the trick for when we want to carry stuff while out or groceries? Cher has the white Rover ST so might have to wait for the orange rack to come back in stock. Having that rack is almost a necessity just so I can move the brake light. Jeez, that's in a stupid spot! I recommend buying bike socks too which go on the wheels (bottom up) to protect them from rain, dust, road grime while driving. We inadvertently trashed our chains and gearing while driving the East coast. It took hours of cleaning and lubing to get all the road grime and sand out of the drive train.

I agree 100% about it being a workout. With severe mobility issues from a bad fall a few years back I have 3 plates & 23 screws in my shoulders, crushed vertebrae, bad knees etc., I haven't been able to get enough exercise and began gaining weight. After getting the Rad Rover 5 about 8 weeks ago I'm going out on 12 to 15 mile rides through the Forest Preserves and State Parks near me! I'm getting up at 5am to get to the lakes and ponds to film the wildlife when the fog is still on the water and the sun is coming up, and again at 7pm at night after work to catch the sunsets with my drone. I use peddle assist 1 in most cases and the throttle on the steeper hills to help out, but I've doubled and on occasion tripled my calorie burn each day, work up a great sweat, and I've been rewarded with a lot less daily pain in my knees and back. A bonus is an 9lb weight loss in the past 5 weeks! Your workout is as intense as you want it to be..

Update: My wife's Rad City Step through just arrived so we'll be hitting the parks together soon, and I decided to purchase a Himiway Cruiser Step-Thru and sell the Rad Rover 5 to make it even easier for me to mount and dismount the bike. With my physical issues, it was hard for me to throw my leg up an over the bike saddle because it is up so darn high (due to me being 6'4"). I'll let everyone know if it solved my mounting/dismounting problem!

Bike riding is awesome. Our last few vacations before Covid included bike riding. I've said it's the best way to tour an area. When we were in Europe we did bike tours of Barcelona, Munich, Budapest and the Blackforest mountains. In North America we've biked in both Portland and Vancouver as our mode of transportation. Biking is the perfect balance of speed and open air touring.

I should also mention that I witnessed a bike alarm in action. It was at a local mall where a bike was locked up and frequented by potential thieves. I saw a man and woman try to steal a bike in daylight. They set off the bike alarm which was just as loud as a car alarm. The thieves laughed and walked away quite nonchalantly.

Excellent well down video. I don't RV and still learned something. I don't mount the bike on the inner position like that. I mount it the same way you do for the outer position. The only diff is that I fold down the vertical bar to allow the same 'swing' of the inner bike. The only gotcha is accidently hitting and rotating the pedals. When that happens, its bad, since I have to lift the rear of the rad rover to allow turning the pedals. In that situation, I will try your roll-back technique.

I would recommend considering going tubeless, especially living in an RV. The first month I had my RadRover I had 4 or 5 flats. The eleven months after going tubeless I have had zero flats. And to prove my devotion to it I keep a thumbtack and a regular Phillip's screwdriver. When someone doubts how good Stan's sealant works I push the tack into my tire, then in the same hole I shove the screwdriver into it (probably a 3/16th'' hole) and pull it out. The thumbtack hole seals instantly and the screwdriver is about one second before it seals. I've put 3,000 miles on my Rads in one year and have most likely had hundreds of punctures that I never know about. The stock RR tires are perfectly capable of tubeless.

Loved your video. I have been eyeing these bikes for a minute, but for now I am content with my Specialized Turbo X (not a step through). On one of your points on your video regarding height, I am 5’2” and the Turbo X is I believe just as tall as yours because of the size of the wheels, additionally I have to have the seat at a certain height because of the attachment to my trailer (Burley Travoy, which I highly recommend). With this said mounting it at my height is doable. The person has to be confident in their bike riding experience, and can start riding standing up and then sit down. The dismount would be revers, which is slowing at a standing position, and then lowering down. I have been riding it this way for over 6 years now and have not had any issues with it.

Good afternoon! Thank you very much for this great video. Wow....it is just so comprehensive! We are only part timers (former travel trailer owners; have another trailer and truck on order for this summer). We'll mostly be boondocking here in our state of CO and the immediate surrounding states for the next 5 years until we retire. Then we will start doing 1-2 month trips. We'd like to look into e-bikes as well. I guess 1 way for us would be to make them fit in the bed of the cap covered truck. Or, our travel trailer can accept 250lbs on a rear receiver hitch. We're all over the map with regards to what e bike to get. We live in Ouray, CO, so I know the more powerful ebike motor, as well as larger battery storage, would be beneficial due to all of the hills here. Great coverage of the accessories that have worked for you too!! Our driveway is always open for some moochdocking here in Ouray, if you'd like.

Hello! Thanks for the note, appreciate it! There are a lot of ebike choices out there for sure! I'll say we really like the full-size frame and also the fat tire for our needs. I believe they are more comfortable for long rides and the fat tires work well for our type of terrain we ride on. Everything! Good luck in your ebike hunt, you guys will love having them for sure!! Feel free to ask us anything about them if you have questions. We had trouble boondocking our first time in your CO area, so we really appreciate the driveway offer. Thanks!

@@IreneIronTravels Hi there! Thank you very much for the prompt response!! Yes...I am definitely interested in a bike with the bigger wheels as I'd like to have a bit of winter capability, as well as minor off roading. I'd also like at least the 750w motor and 19+amp hr batteries. I am pretty much a linebacker build, so feel I need the beefier capability. Oh yes...you guys are most welcome here! This summer was freakin nuts, both in town here in Ouray as well as out in the woods. The merchants that sell stuff had their historical best years. The restaurants didn't fair as well with the reduced seating. The jeep trails were very over crowded too. I basically just stuck to using my little atv until October, then was able to use my truck. My guess is this coming summer will be the same here. I'm slightly older than you two and they are not talking about our vaccines being available until July-ish. Safe travels!!

Excellent information on locking the bikes. We've used similar approaches for years, with (knock on wood) no problems! Regarding the exercise you get on an e-bike, I think university studies have shown you achieve about 80% of the energy expenditure (or calories expended) as you do with a non-e-bike. I've found this to be pretty accurate, as I recorded hundreds of bike rides with my gps bike computer - both on regular and e-bikes - and the calorie output on an e-bike is within 80%. I also find I can easily adjust assist to keep my heart rate in the heart rate zone I want to be in for the period I am riding.

I was writing a long comment about cargo carriers for water and sewage tanks on another video, when I noticed this video, and realized that you were using your hitch for the e bike carrier! I did the exact same thing with adding lights to mine! One thing to be aware of - tongue weight (of your trailer hitch) is not created equal. The farther the load is from the hitch, the more stress it'll put on it. If you add a swivel mechanism, you need to be very careful with how it's designed, so you don't overload the swivel or the hitch.

  • @IreneIronTravels

Hey Tony, yes that technique does work and is easier for some to do. Our aftermarket tail lights are in the way of the bar folding down so we pretty much always keep the middle bar up. Loading the rear bike this way is just a bit easier for me (Aaron) because I don't have to lift the bike farther away from my body to get over the tail lights. (Old back injury) But, a few have said the technic you mentioned does work well for them!

Indeed...any cable thinner than your index finger can be easily cut. I use those big Kryptonite chains (I see you have one under your van) for when my bikes are on the rack and I use a 6' cable that's as thick as my thumb for when I'm locking it up away from camp. I bought that cable 25 years ago and for some reason you can't find them anymore...I'm always looking at bike shops, hardware stores, etc...never see them. The lock you have looks really good, as the chains are certainly too heavy to haul around.

I've had my rad power bikes Rover for a few years now and love it. But I recently got a Lektric Bike XP model that I love a whole lot more. The Lektric XP has 20 inch wheels vs the Rover 26 inch. That, and the fact that I got the folding step thru model, make the XP much easier to handle on the road and I can load it in the back seat of the cab on my pickup. The Rover was much harder to handle causing me to lose control and end up on the ground a couple times. I'd say the XP is a better bike for half the price.

Hey Joe! That stuff sounds pretty heavy duty and better than the Slime. Will check it out for next time, thanks!

We have a Hollywood bike rack ourselves and love it. We also purchased a Thule Access Swing Arm. It works great on our Pleasure-Way Lexor. We also have the Topeak trunk bags too. We don’t have e-bikes however. Where did you find the Topeak rack for the RAD? Thanks for sharing.

Hey George, sounds like we have similar tastes in setup! 👍 The rear rack we have is just the standard rack from Rad Power Bikes and the topeak bag is the velcro strap version instead of the clip on quick release that needs the special rack. Works great so far!

Excellent review!! I am curious how the bike pedals under no power should you run out of battery. Second battery is an excellent alternative to get longer range. How are they under no power?

Hello, thanks for watching! Thankfully the bikes have a 7-speed gear shift on them, so without power, you can pedal fine in low gears. (1 or 2) But, it is a workout on hills or in high gears. We actually turn off the bikes and pedal around town to conserve battery, plus if you're just putzing around the ebikes go too fast at times!

Great Video! I'm curious about your brake lights being covered up by the bikes and the cover. Is that an issue? Thanks!!

Yup, big issue! Had to add on some aftermarket tail lights, but it was pretty easy.
