Which Fat Tire ebike should you buy? RadRover 6 plus, Himiway, Aventon Aventure or Magicycle?

Visit our blog for all the latest deals from all the ebike brands we review. Year round- top5ebikes.com/2023-black-fri...
In this video we walk through the process we go through when deciding on which fat ebike to purchase. In order to compare ebikes side by side, we use a spreadsheet as a simple way to make a comparison of multiple fat tire ebikes at once. With a budget of $2,000 or less all we’d like to purchase a 750w fat tire ebike. Due to our budget, the Rad Power Bikes Rad Rover 6 Plus , Aventon Aventure, Himiway Cruiser and Magicycle fat tires ebikes will be the 4 fat tire ebikes we’ll be choosing from.

    Finally a reviewer who mentions the best feature that you can get with this bike. Can you buy through a dealer and not just online. If you buy online you have to assemble and tune. That’s where a lot of novice people have problems. They think they have it right and when they ride it they make problems because it is not adjusted and tuned correctly. If you buy online and have a warranty issues you have to diagnose and request parts and fix yourself. And after warranty most bike shops including the Aventon dealers don’t work on online purchase bikes. Imagine buying your car and no dealer warranty and no repair garage would work on it.

    I just purchased the Aventure (Will be here April 12th). I had it shipped to an authorized local bike shop for assembly (A $180 fee). I felt the assembly fee was worth it to have a knowledgeable tech assemble and test ride it b4 picking it up. I am very mechanically inclined, but I bought the bike to ride it in National Parks and have fun with it vice trying to figure out what's wrong with it or inadvertently misassemble something. The authorized bike shop should, hopefully, forego such happenings. Have not asked this same bike shop about after warranty service which is a good point you made. I will talk to them about this when I pick the bike up.

    I've had my Aventure for 3 weeks now and Im having blast. Its my first Ebike so I made my choice just the way you did and obviously came to the same conclusion. There is a youtube video that compares the Aventure, Himiway and RadRover. The Aventure blows the other 2 out of the water on hill climbing and miles per charge. The display was another factor on my decision, all the reviewers say its so much easier to use and I like the App.

    You are going to LOVE IT! I have 100 miles on mine and 80% of those miles on on Off Road Jeep Trails! This beast of a bike takes everything you throw at it. Step#1: Use Blue Loctite on the kickstand screws, they seem to vibrate out really easy. Step# 2: Make sure you have the tire set properly, rear at 8.5 psi and front at 7.5 psi. Step#3: go over all nuts, bolts, screws, attachments, adjust the derailer because it will need it. Step#4: Slime the tires if you plan on any trail rides. Step#5: Ignore the strong "New Bike Tire Smell", even though it is not that bad. However since I live in a Tiny Home I don't have much room and I won't store this wonderful beast outside. One thing to remember that is really important, the battery provide little to no power going up hill. Besides that, ride the freaking heck out of this beast! I did 20 miles OFF ROAD this morning and depleted the battery to only 8%.

    For max battery life you want to keep your charge level between 20-80%. Not a problem to charge higher if you're going to ride soon after charging. It's good to periodically charge to 100% to balance the cells in the battery.

    I'm finding it quite hard to spend the extra $700 just to get hydraulic disc brakes! Whoa, that's over a third more! The Magicycle has disc brakes, just not the fluid type. And, you don't get a rear rack with the Aventon or Rad bikes, which the Magicycle comes with. I also don't know if the Aventon has a functioning rear brake light....yes, it may have a rear light, but does it get brighter when you use the brakes? It also has a color display, a minor feature that the others don't have. There is also another new player in town! The BeeCool fat tire ebike. It does have hydraulic disc brakes and a 48v 21ah battery that quite frankly blows all of these other bikes away in it's range capability. It comes with a rear rack that's the same color as the bike is. A nice touch! Plus a functioning brake light and rear turn signals, with a horn too! Now here's the kicker! It has a full suspension! Not just a front suspension, but a rear shock too! A reviewer tried this ebike, on full battery power only, and got 41 miles on one charge WITH NO PEDDLING! Significantly more miles! It also has a geared 750w rear motor. Price is $1699. So, things are a changin'... ;)

    That all sounds great, but I would look for name brand components. You know the ole adage "You get what you pay for" If quality, name-brand components are used then BeeCool certainly sounds like a player. BTW, the brake light on the Adventure is a functioning brake light. I paid $50 for the rear rack and $40 for the front basket, so about $100 for both......... not too bad I think. I do like the full suspension on the BeeCool line. I plan to buy a seat-post suspension for the Adventure. Here again, is the full suspension made with name-brand quality components? Couldn't find a weight capacity spec for the Beecool ebike line. At my body weight of 270lbs this was a major consideration for me. Aventon website lists the load limit at 400lbs for the Adventure. With my 270lb weight and all the gear I will be carrying that 400 lb capacity will come in very handy. When Aventon started out, their bike prices were a lot lower, but I think now as they continue to step their game up the current price-point is justified. My bike will be here on the 12th of April....can't wait.

    A head to head analysis is not complete without a comparison of the batteries. On paper the MagiCycle takes that category with the maximum rated volts at 52 (more speed), and came in second with a ampere hour rating (more range). It also would be beneficial to know the cell manufacturer.

    All those hubs look like geared hubs. Direct drive motors tend to be skinnier but have a larger profile. Is Rad finally using a real 750 watt motor? In the past they boasted 750 watts* (at peak power but only 500 watts nominal). Unless Rad upgraded the motor they're pretty much competitive with the Lectric. While Rad seems to have it all over the other companies in reliability & post purchase support they can't compete with the other bikes you put them against in any other categories except brakes.

  • @Top5ebikes

    @Top5ebikes

    Hi Michael and thanks for the comment. We haven't tested the RadRover 6 Plus but my guess is the motor is a 750w peak while the others are 750w sustained so a big difference. In flat surfaces it won't matter much (although the stock top speed on the RadRover6 plus is slower anyways) but going uphill it matters plus the other ebikes have more torque which is also super important going up hills....People that own Rad bikes tends to be super happy w their purchase and they do offer more all around support (two brick & mortar stores, mobile support, more financial backing to have a more robust support team, etc) so other companies can come in to provide more features (bigger motor/batteries) at similar prices. I personally am ok will less service for more features but I also get for some people it's important.

    Ohhh no! Sorry to hear you've had issues with your Sinch. Hopefully you get some help from Aventon to get your ebike back on the road. We actually received our Aventure last week and no issues so far 🤞🤞

    @@Top5ebikes I never owned an ebike before, looking tho. As a novice I'd stay local at a brick and morter establishment. At least you gt better after sale service.

    @@mikej.7723 100% I have been burned buying online PEV. Can’t trust the battery/motor yet so brick and mortar will do. So far I’m happy with my Aventon
