I know I'm a little late on this comment but when I was looking for my 1st electric bike I did a ton of research and I mean a TON and it came down to the Aventon or the RAD power but I can tell you through many efforts to try to get in touch with aventon they do not answer their phone their customer service horrible. repairs and warranty work hopefully are better now but from reviews in the past They were graded an "F"..... Went with RAD power and and my 1st bike for my wife was defective. they took it back 100% refunded.. then several months later the battery on mine went bad. Again RAD gave me no problem. within 14 days of claim I had the replacement Battery. Customer service is HUGE part of buying into ELEC BIKES...having replacement parts like Batteries and brakes should be a priority because eventually these things will go bad and RAD power is by far The most well funded electric bike company... A+ with my experience

Yes definitely best to buy your bike from a local dealer that you can walk in to get help . I am not going to order one online. We have a new ebike dealer in town that has been taken great care of customers. One year free of his mobile service for any issues he will take it back to his shop if needed. Sounds good to me. Iike the Aventon Adventure . Sales are coming up and starting to show up now. Enjoy your Rad bike !

As a welder, I would want to see the weld as that tells me everything. But for the average person they don't have a clue. On a weld I can't see too many horror stories of over blending and weld failure. I have the Rad 6+, I was one of the first to get one when they came out, and have one warranty claim that was corrected immediately within hours, ( exceptional service ). The wire cables were wire tied too tight and intermittently cut power to the throttle, they sent me a full wire harness and received it in less than 48 hours. Hats off on that.

I've noticed a significant speed and power difference on my Rover 6+ ST when the battery is below 50% charge and when the weather is hotter. Comparing these both at the same 100% charge would have returned a bit better result for the Rad. But that extra Wattage of the Aventon is key/enviable.

We own two of the Aventures. We love them! I've had my Aventure up to 34 mph. It will hit 30 easily. I'm not sure if the reviewer had the speed set to max. It doesn't sound like it. His speeds sound like those you would achieve out of the box before making changes to the settings. On throttle only, I easily hit 20 to 22 consistently. It is a powerful bike and zooms up hills. We've had these for 8 months. Zero issues!

I don't have any bicycling background but wanted something I could get some exercise with and have fun exploring as well as going off road. I got the Aventon aventure as the overall design and quality and functionality seemed best. I was able to see and ride one at a local bike shop which sold me. So much fun and good exercise. No problems so far. I learn a lot from your and other KZreadrs and am slowly making minor changes and accessorizing ! Amazingly I never knew there was a USB port, nowhere did I see it mentioned. Nice job, very informative. I just ordered the Aventon Aventure. There are a lot of comments about the throttle. I’m in my early 60’s and rode motorcycles for years during my 20’s. I don’t think having he thumb throttle on the left will bother me. With all the help you get from the pedal assist I don’t plan on riding it like a moped using the throttle for prolonged periods. Plus I think I’ll easily get used to the location on the first ride. For me, the more powerful motor/battery combo and the higher quality build items like the frame fabrication/welds, paint job and shifter were more important buying decisions than the throttle. I definitely plan on adding a bell. You really need one on those public access combination walking/biking paths. Also, I don’t ride at night so the single taillight on the left side only wasn’t really a showstopper for me. I’m really stoked looking forward to receiving the bike. Happy E-Biking all!

Excellent review by both of you, and I agree with your wife that the Aventon brake light misses the mark. Being completely invisible from the other side of the bike is unsafe in a lot of situations I can think of. One very popular cycling route where I live is along a winding hilly road with only a painted line separating cars from bikes, and on the right hand curves, the Aventon light may as well not exist. Both sides, or center, is better. The hydroformed frames Aventon uses are always slick and good looking, though in this case, the Rad frame looks a sleeker and understated compared to the bulky mid section of the Aventon. I do not like the Rad headlight position, but I know it's only there because of the rack. If it were me, I'd fabricate a mount so it looks better and turns with the wheel. The metal fenders look sleeker, but I have to say that after being hit from behind by other bikers, and a couple of other spectacular crashes, I like the tougher "bounce back" nature of Rad's fenders. Props to Aventon for using a higher peak wattage, even if it violates US limits, though I'm really surprised that there was only 1mph difference in the hill climb tests. Most companies skirt the limits, and logically speaking, it makes more sense to limit top speed electronically. Still, if the US decides to become strict on legal limits, Rad is already 100% compliant. I know most people don't use the USB port on displays, but the USB dongle on the new Rad models is a bit of a hack job. Thanks again for the review!

Always good to hear your analysis. I asked another KZreadr and he brushed off the whole 750 watt regulation. Apparently it seems a bit loose whether this means 750 watt nominal or 750 watt peak. I started to mention this point less than less because it doesn't seem to matter regulation wise at least at this time. All in all - both great bikes, just a matter of preference. I too was impressed by the Rad's hill climb performance. Their statements that this is a new and improved motor that can climb hills better isn't just marketing.

Before I bought my Aventure last month at my local bike shop, I had a chance to take it out for a test ride. The longer I spent on the bike, the more I began to like it. The thumb throttle doesn't bother me. In fact, I find it useful to help me get going from a standing stop... very useful when you're waiting at a traffic light or need to get going right off the bat. I also like the powerful 750 watt motor the Aventure has. In PA4 or PA5, I feel the bike pushing me along more than I can pedal at times. If I need to keep a constant speed, I'll keep my pedal assist on level 4 and pedal along to keep my bike going at a consistent speed of 20 mph. If I feel a need for speed or need a little extra power, I'll put it on PA5 and put my chain on 8th gear. I've gotten my bike up past 30 mph on those settings.

I have worked on both. The Aventon is a lot better finished (very pretty). Both are a lot heavier than they should be, but The Aventon is lighter. The Rad has longer, less responsive, and a tad harder to handle chain stays (they are more comfortable). Acera is only one step up and both are below what shops would call entry level. Sadly, the higher amperage charger is not as good for your battery. Neither is truly a fast charger, so why bother? Finally, Rad does something that really scares me. All I have worked on, the rear axle nut does not fully engage with the drop out. Roughly a quarter of the axle nut is hanging off the drop out. Apparently it is safe, but it still bothers me (found the same on Himiways).

I just bought a adventure 2 and put it to a 25 mile test here in Montana. I took it up 8 percent grade hill. Had it on turbo pedal assist and it was jerky and had to put it in first gear before I reached the top. I own 2 rad rover 6 plus ebikes and there pedal assist is way better going up steep hills. The plastic thumb throttle is not good. Thumb went numb. Handle grips are not good for long trips. The seat was comfy. This ebike will give you a good workout. But I hunt a lot and I don't want to be worn out before I get where I'm going. Rad rover 6 plus is hands down a better ebike for my riding .

I'd like to ask a different question, unrelated to these specific bikes. Which is, it seems to me that while the step through is very handy and useful, that the standard bike is going to be more sturdy, with less metal fatigue in the long run. I know this depends on the rider, but if you ride aggressively, I would think that's the one that will hold up frame-wise for much longer. Your thoughts on this?

Hi Michele, most rear hub motors make noise and it's hard to tell the difference in my opinion. It's a tough decision - both are great options in my book having ridden both. Most people don't necessarily need the extra power of the Aventon as the Rad is plenty capable (see my individual reviews of both). Thank you for showing that the Rad has a righthand twist throttle, while the Aventon has a lefthand thumb throttle. Being unable to test ride either bike, throttle type was a question I didn't think to ask. I now have two more important questions: 1) Rad gets impressive customer reviews on their customer support, while by last summer Aventon was getting poor reviews for customer support. Has Aventon improved on that yet? And 2) You didn’t talk about smoothness of motor control: I’ve seen a few customer reviews from Aventon owners complaining of delays in throttle and pedal response. Did you find this to be true in your comparison? I like the Aventon’s more aggressive power and longer lasting battery, but I’m not racing anyone. Is the Rad a smoother, more responsive, and more controllable motor? I can’t test drive these bikes, so I really need to hear from those who’ve ridden both.

Hi James, hard for me to comment on customer support as I've had positive experiences with both. Aventon was very quick to send a replacement battery cover and have had a couple of things come up with Rad. Perhaps you can check the Aventon FB group and try to get a sense of customer support. They are one of the bigger brands it seems though. I personally did not notice any delays in throttle and pedal response though I haven't been on it in a few months. I will say all of the Rad's feel very accessible - as you said, many people don't need to race anyone. But my Dad really likes the Aventon - it's a tough call!

Hi there! Thanks for the kind words. I think either bike makes for a great ebike - just know that they are still powerful with the Aventure capable of speeds near 28 mph. It's hard to say if a new Aventure model will be released - I can almost certainly say we won't see a new RadRover 6 Plus in 2022. The problem is with the supply chain it is hard for companies to release upgrades to models on any sort of regular basis. Of course, we could see some incremental changes or maybe prices will go up as we approach spring. It's really hard to say. It used to be a bit easier to predict. I always say if the bike is in stock and you'll ride it right away then you might as well order and start getting out and enjoying. Why are so many E-Bikes Fat Tire? Personally, I really don't like fat tires. Four inch tires feel horrible on pavement. It may come from 30 years of riding MTB's. Although in the early days of Mt biking many tire were 2" or smaller, it became evident (like in the mid 90's) that bigger tires were better. But, too big gets to diminishing returns pretty quick. The obvious is that bigger is more weight, which reduces responsiveness and quickness. On normal dry dirt surfaces optimal tire width is about 2.5". I find the Plus widths of 2.7" and larger to start becoming cumbersome in tight trails. On single track precise handling is paramount and bulky tires reduced that badly. I did buy a 27.5 Plus E-Bike, full enduro, and really don't like it, especially on tight trails. I would rather ride my hybrid/gravel e-bike with 700x40mm tires. PLEASE PLEASE! I want smaller tires on a bike that responds well and feels good in the woods.

Just purchased on June 20th, 2024, I worked for 2 days and have stopped working, Customer Support has not been helpful, and has been unresponsive. They thought it was the controller, ordered it, on July 6th, and as of July 9th it has not been sent out yet. And I have to take the bike apart and fix it. I called a service center (the closest was 2 hours away) and they felt it was the motor. They have not been helpful, as it is so big, I can't transport it and would have to hire a van and drive 2 hours each way to get it to a service center. So, if anything goes wrong with the bike as in my situation, and you're not close to a service center nor have a vehicle large enough to transport this bike, as of the date of this writing, you are screwed. And good luck speaking with someone with authority to make decisions.

Uh. If you want your video to be taken seriously. Do a full charge on both batteries for throttle only videos if that’s a factor. I mean, seriously how hard is that?

I'm sorry, for you urban people go for the Aventon. For the hunting rugged outdoor people the RadRover just rules. Just for the accessories you can get. I started out with with the Aventon and it was just a disappointment for going thru swampy rugged terrain.

Americans say, "We're gonna go ahead trade bikes now." The rest of the English-speaking world says, "We're gonna trade bikes now." Americans are the leaders in redundancy.

Not a very good comparison. The Aventon can outperform the Radrover easily.

the Aventon is a class 3 electric bike and the Rad Rover is a Class 2 electric bike. And better components.

@@mpwasz1 my goal with the video was to provide facts and try to be unbiased so people can make the decision on what bike is best for them. I absolutely think there are reasons people would choose the RadRover over the Aventon Aventure. And there are reasons for the opposite. It depends what the end purchaser values. Both great bikes and I'll continue to recommend both of them. I have ridden both extensively.
