Oh, we totally should! I feel so bad for the OP. I once had a brand new gift immediately destroyed by my brother because we were fighting. My family isn't even poor, but that gift was kind of unique and I was totally devastated by it. So I can only imagine the OP would be even sadder than I was at the time.

The second story is so messed up. She showed her true colors soon as she became the breadwinner. The boyfriend clearly had no issue splitting the payments but the moment it was her turn she did not reciprocate that respect back. And she held a dumb financial decision that he made when he had no experience with money yet. Bet your butt that the moment he goes over 6 figures she would be on him like white on rice to renegotiate. At least they are not married yet so he has time to escape a potentially bad future because the complete face turn when she made more money showed when she is in a position of power she shows signs of being manipulative and degrading vs when she was making less she stayed on his food side. Honestly I say he should WALK AWAY before things get worse

That second story definitely went a way I wasn’t expecting, as I was thinking the guy was going to be like a gambler who was recently clean, and his girlfriend was scared of it falling out. Instead ge’s trying to have a conversation about house expenses after a shift in wages, just like they did when he started earning more, and she’s holding a bad investment over him? I think a certain miss thang is projecting her own greed onto him and wants to keep more money for herself now that she isn’t paying 50/50 with him

Also a majority of people I know were way more irresponsible with money even as full grown adults. Investing is pretty responsible, if you invest it in a safe stock. So, he was almost responsible, he just chose the wrong stock.

OP should've stayed at 50/50 when he had his raise, and going back to 50/50 when she got a raise is not unreasonable at all..... and if she is fighting it that much, then there is most likely something shady going on behind the scenes with her. The funny thing is he was actually able to get up, I would have broken his face in with that same laptop he destroyed. He definitely would have had a good reason then to destroy my laptop. I worked hard to build my own computer and I know how much time and money goes into building a pc, so for a clown that has no value of money to ruin that would be putting his neck on the line. People who have nothing tend to cherish every little good thing they have, it is also a motivator to get money and what you want in life. So what I'm picking up from this is, the cousin is a spoiled brat and since they can afford for him to be this way, they can afford to get him a new laptop.

2nd story: The greedy woman now pays 45% but will be paying 100% of her living expenses soon if she doesn't change her attitude. If this issue is that important to him as he says, then it'll be a total turn off for him in the long run.

With the last one I hope the whole family saves up by reducing the cousins gifts and gets op a replacement

2nd story...She should be paying at least 50/50, and bringing up the mistake he did in the past as an excuse to be selfish waves a huge red flag 🚩 with narcissist written across it. He needs to end that relationship ASAP. I've learned what I know from a narcissist who treated me similarly when it came to money.

You were in an advantaged situation and balanced the scales in the name of fairness. She had no problem with that. Now, she is in an advantaged situation and is using a mistake you yourself probably told her about in order to deny you the fairness you eagerly offered her. In the future of this relationship, she'll use whatever weaknesses, problems or worries you tell her about against you the very moment it benefits her. This cannot work and her being so adamant about it only proves that she really sees nothing wrong with it. Otherwise, this'll be a relationship where you can never trust her not to use the things you tell her against you, where you can never confide in her without the risk of it blowing up in your face later. This cannot and will not work.

Story #2: It'd be one thing if she just wanted to go back to an even split (which would still be hypocritical) but she still expects you to foot more of the bill. Honestly you should drop her ass. She obviously doesn't respect you and she's financially abusing you and she's even gaslighting you to keep you under her thumb. If you leave things how they are, you're just going to end up wasting tons of money supporting her while she saves hers up until she leaves you for somebody that makes a lot more money than the both of you. You may love her but ask yourself if she's somebody that you honestly think will make a good wife because right now, she's being an awful girlfriend.

For the second story I’d advise the guy to get out of that relationship. If he bends now, it will get worse in five, ten, twenty years.

The op in the second story should just go back to the 50/50 split since she doesn't want to increase the amount she owes. If that doesn't work, he could only pay 50% on small things, or get the cheaper alternative so it's a 50/50 split

On the last one to the OP, I have a toxic cousin, and over the years growing up and even now past middle age she never changed. Just giving you a heads up that so many of these kind of people stay the same, even far into their adulthood. I would never let him be near you and always beware of him. Car theft story: this sort of thing isn't uncommon. You hear about it plenty of times in the US. Some banger is murdered in a public area in broad daylight and nobody saw anything. It's a combination of "Not my problem", "I don't want to get involved", and "If I get involved, that could be me." All that combined with "Snitches get stitches" means that for the individual, keeping your silence is much safer.

Second story: I believe in the Dave Ramsey way of handling mixed expenses with a significant other. All the income goes into a single account first, and is treated as "our money," not mine and yours. All mandatory expenses (bills, utilities, etc) are budgeted from that combined account, then any remaining can be split based on a mutual agreement. Be that transferring to savings, a combined general fund, separate slush funds, etc.

Last story: OP should break his cousin’s stuff that’s worth more and go non-contact with that entire side of the family. What a POS.

Second story, I'd simply say, either stop being selfish and pay your fair share or we are done

For the guy with the split financial problems just stop paying for everything and make her pay for it and only start paying for it again when she finally agrees to pay more just like how you did when you got the raise
