Pretty much many of us followed you and other youtubers during lockdown, and we definitely appreciate all of you who made life bearable during these days. I started watching Japanese cooking and got into watching classic Japanese movies from 60s and 70s , and thought "I wish I understood what they were saying !" So, I started checking out videos online that taught Japanese. I'm way below basic when it comes to Japanese, but it felt good to finally follow the dialogs. I had to go back and forth between my Arabic and English grammar to comprehend the Japanese grammar, but it was a great brain exercise 😉

glad to hear you like learning Japanese, since it is one of the hardest language to learn!! with three types of characters and primarily three level of polite form!!
@miriammanolov9135
Жыл бұрын
@@taijiskitchen yes. In Arabic we have similar issues with formal and daily Arabic. We have the complicated version that used by religious scholars (I don't use it since I'm Christian), then there is our version of the "polite" form with less complicated grammar used in newspapers and TV or with dubbing. Then of course you have the different dialects and accents (I understand the Iraqi, Egyptian, Levant, and Khaliji -Gulf ones) but not the other northern African ones. Our alphebtes are easy to read like your Hiragana and Katakana... but definitely I have not even attempted one Kanji 🤣🤣🤣 Edit : I have a 600 important verbs in the Japanese language book and their rules. It's really not that bad since they broke them into 2 Groups along with breaking down verbs ending with -iru and -eru and I'm sure with good consistent practice, it becomes clearer. I cannot say the same about Arabic because a lot of times you are always learning a new word! Example: K T B are the basic letter for : Book , Writing, and Library !! Kitab: book Kutub : books Kataba: he wrote Katabet : she wrote Yaktub : he is writing Taktub : she is writing Maktaba: Library Sorry for the headache 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Yes Taino. It’s evident that you have an organized and logical mind. This is helpful when communicating clearly. Re: math. Teachers are in their field due to compassion. So the channel is the extension of your compassionate nature. I’m an older woman trying to cycle out of bad eating American habits. I turn to Taiji’s kitchen for ideas!

I am very proud of you, I remember how our class discovered your youtube-channel quite fast and we're always believing in you. Look at you now, you made it really far in such a short period of time! Because you changed to another school, I want to wish you the best in the future here through the comment section and we'll see us hopefully someday again. You were the favorite teacher of all of us.

Thank you Taiji for this episode and congrats on the 100K subscribers. I am honored to be one of them. I loved this episode, especially the small scene of you teaching math and the slow motion of tying up your kimono sleeves. I really love learning from your "bachelor style" cooking. Bachelor style I mean simplified with some short cuts in order to make it look doable for beginners. All your movements and instructions are easy to follow. Thank you!

hey, cool!! so many viewers from Mexico! one of the countries I must visit some day!!
My sister and her family lived in Japan in the 70's. My parents decided I should visit for a month. Holy smokes what an eye opener. I'm from the Midwest. The food was absolutely the best. I had no idea what I was eating or drinking, how to eat it or what the table manners should be. The women took pity on me and showed me the way. I got a lot of attention wherever we went because of my waist length blonde hair. What a wonderful experience. I so enjoy watching you and reliving my visit. My mouth waters for the food you make and the lessons you teach.
I am hooked onto your videos, I love Japan and the Japanese culture. It has been my privilege to visit my daughter and her husband when they were teaching English near Kobe. I am originally from France but settled in western Canada on the pacific coast. My children are doing Aikido and the Tea ceremony. I am glad you have chosen to be ambassador for Japanese culture, you are a great teacher. Blessings from an 85 years old great grandmother in love with Japan.

Greetings from Hungary! I have just recently ran into your channel (just a week ago), but I already watched like 30-40 videos and started to locate some Asian shop nearby to get the not-so-common ingredients. I was already big fan of sushi, but thanks to you I now know a lot more about Japanese cuisine and I found it very delicious and very healthy! Thank you!
Iam following you Chef . My mother / Okasan is a Japanese from Okinawa , Nahaa. Thanks for sharing your Japanese recipes .
I've seen some tiny apartment videos centered around Japanese layouts recently, and the kitchen areas seem so small with just a sink and a single burner! I'd love to learn more about how people use those very small cooking spaces to create good food for themselves. Congrats on your success!

Thank you for explaining your training and education. As I watced the first of your sessions I could not understand why I was picking up America english witha German accent ans perfect Japanese. Now I see. What a fascinating background you have. You are a gifted teacher.
Hi Taiji. Fellow Asian in Germany here. Firstly, I’d like to congratulate you on your major milestone! 100K! Wow. 🎉🎉🎉 I’m sure the channel’s still gonna grow more. Also, thanks for this video. It answered most of the questions I had about you. I actually thought you might have been working as a Japanese chef here in Germany. But didn’t expect Math teacher, and teaching in German, too. Well, I do enjoy your videos and your recipes, so definitely continue doing so. I’m looking forward to more easy but delicious Japanese/Asian recipes. Viele Grüße! (Weiss Ihre Schüler eigentlich, dass Sie ein KZread Kanal haben? Schon interessant.)
AHHH seeing you in teacher mode was so different! So cute though in your teacher vest!! How do you feel about Germany's culture for teachers, like dressing, hours, and other expectations? Do you feel like the teaching program prepared you well?
I happened to watch your video about half a year ago by chance and have been watching your videos (all of it) since then. I have been trying a lot of your dishes and they are great. Please keep teaching us about Japanese culture and cuisine. How is you nephew? That episode is one of my favorite, he is so cute. Thank you very much.

Hi TAijisan...glad to see and join in ur yputube chanel..im from Indonesia...😊 many information about japan..food..and history.. Hope ur have many subcribers and always share japanes cooking..arigatogozaimasu..😊👍
I'll be honest: I clicked on this video because your English made me really curious about your background! I know this video is almost a year old. But the reason I'm the English expert I am is that I really enjoy learning about languages. So, when you asked your viewers to "rate" your English, I thought it'd be a lot of fun! I hope my comment will interest you, too. You can learn a lot about a person from the way they speak. Here are the things I noticed about you: 1. I did guess you had experience living overseas, because your accent is so specific. Most foreigners who learn English as adults retain more features of their native language, because they're set in their habits. The natural flow of your sentences, too, can logically be attributed to your having learnt the basics at a younger age. 2. English not only _has_ many vowels, but many that other languages don't have, and so in terms of pronunciation, that can be one of the hardest things for foreigners to learn-especially the Japanese. Your command of the rarer vowels (and clear familiarity with the difference in timing between "syllables" and "morae") meant I was initially surprised to hear you declare yourself Japanese...you really _sound_ very American. (I've also lived in Germany, and that's also my impression of your German.) 3. People worry a lot about learning foreign sounds, but the key to speaking easily-understood English is mastering word stress. If you get that wrong, your pronunciation can be otherwise perfect and it might still sound like nonsense to others. This really helps your speech to come across clearly to others! I, too, wondered about your nationality, until... 4. You made mistakes. Everyone does, of course, but what's so _interesting_ about people is how our native language shapes how we think about language. Native speakers would make different mistakes, but your grammar mistakes don't show a poor grasp of the language*, just an incomplete knowledge of its infinite (and infinitely contradictory) rules. The big thing with English grammar is adhering to its fixed word order, since that does a lot of the heavy lifting that particles are responsible for in Japanese. Since your word order is accurate, the mistakes you do make don't make you incomprehensible (or even just frustrating). I actually find it very interesting! It teaches us a lot about the things we take for granted, and that can give us a better understanding of how English works. I love learning about that! Danke schön! =) You rated your English level as only slightly below your Japanese, and that seems appropriate to me. I hope learning why justifies such a long comment, haha. 😅 *I'm making that clear because I think some people would assume I mean something insulting. I don't.
Thanks for sharing "you" with us. Congratulations on your success.
🎉Och I love your channel! I am just discovering it though. For fresh seafood you must come to Portugal where I live. You’d be surprised how many similarities can be found in Portuguese and Japanese cuisine. We grow here rice, make desert pudim and eat lot of seafood! And there are tea plantations on Azores Islands. All the best. BTW learning about Japan is my IKIGAI. have visited Japan once in 2011😊
I really enjoy your videos. You are a great teacher. I realize that umami has recently inspired cooks in many countries. I hope that I can faithfully follow this savoir faire. I wish I could find small plates to accompany Japanese dishes. The spiritual touch of an ancestral flavor, something imaginable but that cannot be quite reached.. Takane no hana = beyond reach.
I love the videos!!

Hey, i really liked some of your videos, because it is great content, you are sensible and you make very interesting videos, but IN MY OPINION you should make more videos about japenese cultures, the city that where you from, japanese religion, history, lifestyle, sports, freetime, school and other customs and habits there. The reason is that most of the food tutorials that you make cannot be made here in Hungary for example. But i am enthusiastic about Japan, and it would be very great to see more content from you about the topics above. Thank you, i support you.
Thank you!! We appreciate all your knowledge and the work you do to make these videos. You deserve the 100K subscribers. And yes, you English is certainly at 95%. It is very good.
Wow that was pretty awesome 😮 I'm glad that you did it and I wish you the best ❤😊
I used to travel lots to Japan & savoured delicious Japanese meals there, now I have the opportunity to prepare easy Japanese meals at home - thanks to your great channel! Keep them videos coming, love all the other non-cooking videos too!
Congrats on reaching over 100K Subscribers! I've enjoyed your videos and love learning Japanese home cooking from you. One of my favorite recipes was Kinpira (I hope I used the right word, burdock root). Btw, your English is amazing! You really retained the language well! I learned French and Spanish in school, but I can't remember any of it from lack of use.
Thank you for the great cooking videos. The recipes are easy to follow and turn out so good. I love the cultural aspects like gratitude and appreciation for the farmers and cooks. The camera work is excellent. I really enjoy watching YOU enjoy your food. It makes me want to try the recipe! I am so happy that they turn out so well. I am gaining some weight. I love your knife work too. Could you make a video on sharpening knives? Thank you again for all the excellent videos!
I just watched this video, and I didn't expect you to answer an essential question about your life. thank you taji san. even though I have never asked you directly but I have asked many things about you and I got the answer from this video. stay healthy okay.. I'm one of your fans now 🥰
Thank you. I very much appreciate and enjoy your videos.
Konnichiwa Taiji. A little late to this video but glad I found it. I have watched several of your other videos and find them to be fun and instructional. I make many of the dishes you have on your channel and I'm glad to see I haven't been too far off. I'm fortunate to get most of the ingredients you use and my techniques have been pretty close to your instructions. I have been embracing the Japanese culture since the early '80s and much of my house is authentic Japanese style. I fly a jet for a living and have the opportunity to visit many Japanese restaurants around the country but you don't often find things like okonomiyaki or takoyaki in the restaurants unless they are Japanese owned. Therefore I make my own. When I'm home I make gyoza and many noodle dishes every week. You are one of the pluses of covid lockdown and I'm glad you chose to pursue this. I'm subscribed and an instant fan. Kanpai!
Taiji, thank you for doing this video. You are a blessing to the world around you.
Yes I loved this video - yes you do have a pleasant soothing voice. Your recipes look easy enough to try for someone like me with no experience with Japanese style cooking/food. Definitely enjoy your channel. 👍
I discovered your channel at a very difficult time in my life. Your dedicated teaching style and calm instruction really helped me. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Hello from Saudi Arabia 🇸🇦
Thank you thank you from Canada . I have just messaged my son to ask if he can get sweet fish here . We have some pretty wonderful specialized shops . My son was encouraged to cook from a very tiny child ...kneading bread , cookies and such. As an adult he and my daughter Yui create some incredible dishes and she loves that he knows his way around the kitchen . I have enjoyed all the wonderful flavors that originate from Japan . The true harmony of flavors is such a joy.
More power to you.

Thank you for mention about ayu (sweet fish). I have been in Tokyo for about 10 years. When I went to the supermarket, there was ayu (sweet fish) but I never bought it. I grew up in my home town, Galle which is closest to the sea in Sri Lanka, so I like to eat fresh fish. Although the way of eating fish is different in the two countries, but I also like fresh see food in Japan very much. In the same way, eating rice in Japan, the Japanese culture inspired by Buddhism, matches well with my country. Origami is where I first learned about the diversity of flavors that can be found among varieties of sake. (My favorite so far has been Otokoyama, or "Mountain Man" which I find to be not-too-sweet and not-too-dry, with a lovely hint of melon.) I also had a special presentation of tobiko there that knocked my socks off! It was five little bundles of tobiko (with rice and nori of course), but one was unflavored, one was wasabi flavored, one yuzu flavored, one chili flavored, and one was flavored with squid ink-resulting in a beautiful rainbow of roe: orange, green, yellow, red, and black. Very memorable. I'm glad you found Origami to be as good as I have.
