I really love what you said about capturing images of horses for owners before they are gone. That really resonated with me, having lost my old guy a few years ago. I don't have a ton of really nice photos of him, but I do love the ones I have. That's a great motivation for what you do. Loved your video, thank you for taking the time to put it together!

Thank you so much Abigail! I wish I could have photographed you with your old guy. It's so hard with horses because we never know when we might lost them. ❤️

I have my first practice equine session tomorrow. While I’ve photographed people, places and things now for about a year or so, I’ve never photographed horses. I was granted permission to go to a local horse sanctuary to photograph the horses, however no one else will be there. No trainers, or humans to help position the horses. I’ve been given some rules to abide by while I’m there. But my question is, what suggestions do have for me to get decent pic’s of them. I’m not allowed in the pastures and not allowed to feed them. I plan on bringing my 70-200. The purpose of the shoot is for the sanctuary to adopt them out, or for people to sponsor the horses (and a few goats).

What a wonderful way to practice - by helping out a good cause! Your 70-200 will be great for this. It's hard to give you specific tips because you won't have any control over posing the horses, but I think focusing on head shots showing personality will benefit the horses the most!

Do you use a preset, or have your own presets?

I have my own preset developed over years of tweaking based on the way I shoot and edit. :)

Fantastic video! Super informative and wonderful that you give your followers the opportunity to ask questions. Since you are working with horses the risk factor for injury of yourself and others is greater than that of a wedding photographer ect. I asume you would need a different type of liability insurance. Could you elaborate on the business insurance that is needed to protect yourself as an equine photography business? Thank you!!

Thank you! I don't have any additional insurance for working around horses, but I do have a very specific contract, so I think a video on safety and contracts would be very good - thank you for the suggestion!

You belong in Iceland. Rent a camper. Excellent roads and food. Stay ahead of the tour buses. Go in June for maximum light. :-) Love your vlogs and excellent advice!
