I just came across your channel about a week ago and I'm already addicted, love the way you give detailed explanations on what you are diagnosing. I have a Pico 4425 and absolutely love it. I wasn't sure how well the secondary ignition wand worked, i was thinking about the one from Pico

I'm glad you enjoy the channel, Thank you for commenting.I try to explain in away that is good for all skill levels. I've got an older Pico probe, you can see it in my video "ole sparky " it has served me well. I have used the newer flexible style and it produces a good pattern also. Whatever style you get , use it alot and get familiar with the patterns it produces. I have a link to Autonerdz.com on my home page and most of my videos check them out!
Excellent, thank you for sharing knowledge and Happy new year

Hey Carter, everything you showed and explained makes total sense to me but the one thing I'm trying to wrap my head around is why the 720 degree rulers for this v6 make it look like the crank shoots down 120 degrees and up another 120 degrees for it's expansion and exhaust stroke. We know the crank would have rotated 360 degrees but it appears like it was done in 240 degrees? I can play ball and use the technique as is and trust it to get good results, but Id love to know why it looks this way. Thanks so much!

Sorry for the confusion. You are correct in the fact that the engine strokes are based on 180* per stroke. The counting method i used just simply works for 60 degree V6 applications.( Im not sure about 90 degree V6 block designs) Its just a simple way for me to remember the offset. It also works for 4 cylinders However this counting method is inaccurate for V8 applications. So an alternative method must be used for cylinder I.D.
Great catch.

Hi Mike, Thanks for sharing another diag and taking the time to explain. What overlay (piston chart) are you using?
@CartersDiagnostics

A guy named Rod Maher designed that overlay. I downloaded it from Autonerdz . He has wrote many cool and helpful apps.

☕🍩 Morning. Thanks for all the wonderful comments!
I love seeing you use the same equipment I have but picking the nats out of the fly 💩. Excellent diag and explanation. What are you seeing for spark burn times with the paddle antenna?
@CartersDiagnostics
Жыл бұрын
Thank you for the comment. I like to see over 1ms burn time while the spark jumps in the cylinder. I don't always trust the KV numbers with the paddle, but I try and always compare to good.
Thanks again Mr Carter for your knowledge. From your last video. You said the guys at autonerdz have training on secondary waveform. Can you guide me to where they are located. Thanks

Start by going to Autonerdz.com. search the training and support tab, or call them and ask lots of questions. The support is great.
Very informative. Was wondering what if you did it on the primary instead of secondary if unable to get a wand under the intake? Thanks
@CartersDiagnostics

Can't really check primary on this style coil. Its a 3 wire setup, the transistor is built in the coil.
Thank you for this very good information. I am very new to this. Am I only concerned with the low spikes of the pulse sensor? Not so much the higher spikes? I remember from one of your other videos you explained that the high spikes could just be a result of bouncing back from the low spikes. So does that basically mean I shouldn't be too concerned with a cylinder showing a high spike?
@CartersDiagnostics
Жыл бұрын
Yes, for mis-fire identification the low spike is your clue. Now if your looking for cylinder leakage, I would do this cranking the engine and I look for any pulse up or down that repeats itself, and could lead me to a problem. My favorite test if I'm suspecting a mechanical issue is......relative compression, ignition sync, pulse sensor in the exhaust and a pulse sensor in the intake at the same time. That gives me a good idea of how the engine is moving air. I only do this test cranking. My video "z pressure is on" demonstrates some of this.

Hi Mike im seeing that extra kick on alot of the secondary ignition waveform. Especially on fake plugs. What do you think it is. Its like a large kick after the spark have fired and then it will seems like the ecu is trying to fire the coil again. What do you think about it

I think its just stray noise the wand is picking up. When im trying to stop the scope, and fiddle with the GoPro all at the same time, Im most likely moving the wand around and not being consistent with it. Those things are super sensitive.
