I would have called crank sensor after seeing that capture, the signal stays high when it fails, so the sensor is not switching the supply voltage to ground. Never would have considered a shifted bellhousing...thank you for putting this out.

Just found your very interesting channel. Those spikes are not high current but high voltage that scatters through the different signal paths. Ideally you shield the two wires from the crank sensor signal. The voltage spike could be caused by ie a failing injector causing a ignition misfire that causes a very high voltage spike caused by the lack of fuel. I encounter a cranksensor that was scratch by the fly wheel because the forgot to put in filler ring so that there is sufficient gap space between the sensor and the flywheel

Very interesting to a scope new comer to see that it can pick up noise from other electro mechanical devices. It’s something that makes sense as soon as you think about it, kind of like the lights fading when the vacuum gets turned on but at a smaller scale. Thanks for sharing.

I’ve seen the same thing on an NV a tech at my dealership decided the dowel pins weren’t important and couldn’t fix the crank sensor code after installation…you in the NY area haha wouldn’t be surprised if it was from our guy…😂

GREAT VIDEO , COULD YOU OF USED THE CRANKSHAFT SENSOR GROUND TO TAKE AWAY THE NOISE?

  • @CartersDiagnostics

I think so. Can't say for 100%. My scope is a common ground so I always go to battery ground, especially when I use more than 1 channel. I would have try it to prove it out. Good question.
