Engine Pressure Waveform Analysis When Rockers Fall Off

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

In this video I go about showing what engine pressure waveforms look like when you have a unique situation in the valvetrain with only one intake valve opening and one exhaust valve opening.

The level of understanding is awesome because I can't seem to see it until it's explained but this guy is a natural. The explanation is awesome

This was an excellent case study and the explanation definitely makes it a watch more than once video. Deep dive.

I'm astonished that the engine ran well enough under normal load that it was able to hide such a major valve train failure. I guess it shows how efficient the engine breathes with only one intake and one exhaust valve in operation on the bad cylinder. This was definitely a bizarre case study, Sadel. Thanks for taking the time to grab all of the Pico captures!

Dave, the customer had no idea, and unfortunately he had just purchased the vehicle when he brought it to me, the only thing he mentioned after I brought this issue up to him was that he thought it felt a little underpowered under heavy load. Pretty crazy situation for sure but glad to have experienced it. Thank you for watching

Thanks Greg, and I do get a lot of euro's in here, but I will work on pretty much any make and model. And a lot of the vehicles I post videos are sometimes unique scenarios, so feel free to check out the other videos I have posted in the past because have a lot of scope usage in regular ways and some unconventional methods for pin pointing diags. Glad you enjoyed and thank you for watching.

Awesome case study Sadel, great analysis of the waveforms. I'm wondering if the higher peak for cylinder 3 was due to an increase in crankshaft speed because of the lower compression in cylinder 1. Very hard to see in the waveform for sure.

Hi, this is very great video, thanks for sharing. Do you think this car also exhaust side timing out? Because I saw the the exhaust valve close, pressure still going up. I think this is uncommon. Do you think so?

I don't believe that it was, from what I can remember, but I can't guarantee that since I never compared to a known good. But what I do know is that it is not uncommon to see that rise at that point in many euro's. I have seen it in other captures and when the cam gear is phased you can see that rise go away. Hope that helps , thank you for watching

At idle, you wouldn't see a lot of need for a second valve, at higher rpm you would see it. 10:50

Used a vacuum transducer on intake and inches of water on exhaust and regular absolute transducer in cylinder
