Automotive Diagnostic Pulse Sensor for 6 dollars?

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

See how you can make your own pulse sensor for less than 10 dollars. This sensor works very well at checking intake pulses, exhaust pulses, crankcase pulses, cooling system pulses, injector mechanical operation and noise diagnostics.
In this video, I go through the construction of a simple pulse sensor and demonstrate the tool doing intake pulses, cranking and running, on a good engine and on one with issues. I also show how this tool can work well to check engine noises.

Thank you so much for all you give to us in this video. I will try to use it on my Honda N22A2 diesel engine doing a new little tac noise on one cylinder when you ask for some power, if I find somewhere to plug this sensor ...

nice idea again. I think the length of the pipe will delay the signal but not just as any tube from the sensor to the source would. then it may also lower the pressure of the shock wave that gets to the sensor.

Nice captures. I use piezo disc with banana jack , cranking the waveform is decent enough but during idling the waveform is bit ugly, compared to yours you can still see the pulls. Question, does the length of the pipe has a factor on the waveform capture? Thanks

I tried that longer pipe that I could move in and out to change the volume of the pipe, and it really didn't make a difference. With your sensor, maybe try to put different sized orifices in the rubber line. Or try pinching the rubber line while the engine is running to see if it clears up some.

Your white tube is quite large to allow for a lot of air charge dampening. Your cranking test shows a lot of detail, the highest peak is an exhaust valve closing, If an exhaust valve closes late, it will mask the intake peak and you will know you have a clearance problem of some sort and with a detailed zoom and measurement of the peak, you can show it's later in time than expected at its very top peak, the second-highest peak is an intake valve closing from a different cylinder than its exhaust mate, need to know companion cylinders and also understand valve overlap for each type of engine. These colored overlays are not very accurate but are ok as a guide and different software companies do not talk to other companies so you need to learn the parameters of each, simply said, find one that offers more data analysis, the one for W10 is fine from a Google search. I can also see an intake valve opening on the very long upward ramp maybe 60% of the way down that long rising waveform section. Spark also occurs in this general location if you monitor spark as a sync point. The distance between the 2 top peaks can be measured and valve adjustments can be calculated. The exhaust peak should always be higher than the intake peak. Your lowest peaks are the vacuum pulls and should be some sort of peak, if the waveform is a bit leveled off in this valley, there is a lower vacuum in that cylinder. The greater the distance from the top peak to the lowest valley shows a better vacuum in that cylinder. Try to crank the engine longer and stay away from the beginning of the crank process to eliminate those lower vacuum pulses on the left side of your capture. Going downward on the falling edge about 50% of the way down of each wave is a small spike, notice that this is around the 0 volts range, this is where the sensor changes from pressure to vacuum in the manifold so the sensor shows this ATM (atmosphere pressure )range nicely as the pressure differential changes at this moment, does it actually show up or is there a problem with the intake valve not opening and not showing this transition. Showing some bad engines will of course help more with diagnosis as you gain experience. Overall as mentioned above, it would be best to have this type of peaks and valleys on a running engine also, that, of course, will take some experimenting to get a good design of your homemade tool or maybe a more expensive sensor with a faster reaction speed? The important part is to get used to your tool and learn more with each new job. Thanks so much for the video.

What do ou think with your question ? No it is not an open source software. Yes it is a copyright by picoscope software and it is free. BUT no way ! It works only with picoscope scopes ! Ask the pico hotline if the automotive software works with an actual electronic lab picoskope ! Or if these free software for cars only work with (identical but only a bitt different in the internal ROM-Software) scopes from pico for automotive. By the way = The free software from Pico works only with Picoscope oszilloscope ! Other brands and the software will work ? No pico is a company with employees and licende sellers and and and ... ... and need to make money (or be soon not on the market if You/I/We use the software with cheap no-name scopes). And dont buy an non automotive scope ! The automotive free software works only with the automotive picoscope and not with the pico lab scope for electronic engineers. (Only as far as I know) think if you buy an old picoscope automotiv. - old scope have some restriction (bad values here and there). - can be broken - can be broken at some working somewhat and even if you test the scope quickly you think it is ok - no gurantee (=2 days after frist use of your 2nd hand scope maybe you cry) - eventually the actual software versions dont accept old scopes from pico and work only with older free software In my personal opinion = Only if you can afford a total lost of your money ==> ok I dont have to write these ! A normal person can think at a quiet hour these ideas. No pico is not a stupid company give free an expensive software away and downloaders can use the software with any/some/one cheap china scope. It is in my personal opinion better you buy a new picoscope. And you are safe and have gurantee and no lost of all dollars for a worse one. And now we use google to find the amount of money ... ... oh oh oh ... and pico sell the scope with additional these and that and those Easy to double the spending. with original pico transducer and vibrationdetector module = faktor 10 or 20 times But these electronic at the BNC plug from the scope can be a DIY module (see these channel and use google). Remember = Pico have a very good hotline and very good licensed seller. You can ask ? Yes sure ! Ok try it. above all my personal opinion ! Ask an expert if above are some wrong words. Ask the pico hotline. You are not the first and not the last with identical questions.
