Excellent video the amateur mechanic that I am, I tightened the variator on a kymco people 150 with the belt tight. Your are right, it gave an inaccurate torque reading and subsequently destroyed the splines when the plate started to wobble after riding a few weeks. Luckily I only paid $1000 for the bike it was a Kymco 150 good learning experience. Let the pros do the tech stuff. I just change fluids from now on. Happy rid’n

Oooooo....that belt reminded me of the time I skipped the belt replacement on my Kymco GT200i. Suffice it to say pushing the thing several kilometers back to town made me both religious about belt replacement and proof that I could gut things out when they went sideways.

Hi Robot, first of all thank you for all the help and videos :) Only thing i am wondering in this video is scrubbing the variator plates, since they have a thin layer on them to prevent from oxidation and rust. If we scrub it with 80 gradation we will remove that layer and be at risk that it will oxide over time or am i missing something? Tnx in advance.

Hi, I too fitted a Malossi belt, but since I put it on, the scooter at idle revs makes a noise as if the belt "jumped", then once it's in gear, it doesn't do it anymore.. the mechanic told me that the Malossi belt is slightly longer/or has one tooth less and it is for this reason that it has this effect, according to him it would take the whole Malossi transmission kit to no longer have this effect. what do you think about it? should anything else be adjusted? I'm asking because I see that your scooter makes a regular noise when turned on even though he has fitted the same belt.

@vespa motorsport Here a huge fan from the Netherlands. since a few weeks I expierience tremendous vibrations in my drive line. the 20.000 km service was up so in the mean time i have changed the Vario rollers/sliders and the belt but the vibrations stay the same. Now I have installed an other Vario and I have changed out the bearing in the clutch cover but the porblem remains. the wheel bearing also seems fine. do you (or anybody) have any idea what the problem might be? I use for this an impact wrench and no need to use this Y-shaped tool. But if you care about the torque probably this tool is necessary. Also, I think that you can do it by yourself or ask a familiar welder to help you.

Thanks Robot, My name is Michel Verbruggen from The Netherlands. My Beverly almost driven 100.000 km (60.000 miles). I have several problems with the belt. Two times the belt turn around between the variator en the driven belt. The last time the belt was damage at the topside, just like youre video. Allready at 9.000 km! I think the belt stretch a little and go to high on the variator and touches the inside of the belt cover. I place a small ring between the variator, hopefully the belt don't touches the inside of the cover any more. Also less topspeed, but the torque compares with the Malossi or J Costa variator. Michel

Hello. I have experienced a problem that i see many owners of Piaggio Beverly 350 have seen it so far. While i drive my BV350 often i get this immediate cuts in power, the engine cuts out for a brief period for a second or so, or sometimes long enough for the bike to come to a complete standstill and then turn the key again and then the bike goes normally again.I see this to be very common problem so if you know where to address this problem please give me clues so i can tell my mechanic where to look for the problem so i can drive the bike properly, because this way it is unusable and very dangerous on open road, because bring the bike to a sudden stops or loss in power and it is very unsafe. Thank you

I will sell mine and buy a yamaha way better and parts are available here..Piaggio pure junk!
