To be successful we need a mixture of competence and charisma. To be charismatic:(trustable +reliable) 1. Not standing too close to someone. 2.Use your hands to express your words (not jazz hands) 3. Gift people success words 4. Point out similarities between you and the person 5. Don’t do up talk. (Important how you say words not just what you say)

Yeah I have this catch-22 situation where I keep feeling like I'm falling for her but realizing that she is literally teaching seduction. So it's like verification that she's definitely a professional and knows what she's doing. It's like I have no idea who she really is but I keep feeling like I want to place more trust in her than I would for a normal stranger. Basically demonstrating how effective it could be used against me if someone did. The fact that she's able to verify everything she's saying while she's explaining it it's really effective. I really appreciated this topic being covered; it was a great Podcast.

I am 77yrs old. take no meds, played rugby for 20 yrs, worked in construction since I was 15yrs old, have no arthritis, sleep at least 8hrs a nite and sex at least 2 times a week. I never smoked, stopped drinking alcohol 40 yrs ago, have not had a coke, hamburger, mexican food or that type of rubbish in 50yrs.I go for my annual physical with these expensive doctors here in NB and they say, amazing, keep doing what you doing. But when I point out its all about diet and exercise they actually turn away, don't want to hear it. My contemporaries actually get very angry at me when i point out diet will help them but they would rather be sick and overweight with all their medications than be skinny and active like me. People say all the time, no way you almost 80, My apple watch said I walked 53 miles last month. Hope I don't sound egotistical, just want to point out diet and exercise are the answer at any age.

5:23 when you express your vulnerability, you acknowledge then you are less afraid 21:20 use gestures
It helps to be feeling good about yourself - and life. I never feel vulnerable socially because I love life and people from all walks of life. I don’t “separate” myself from others. I enjoy meeting strangers because I don’t see anyone as a stranger. I believe that we are all One, from every place, culture, race, religion and every walk of life. Everyone is my friend until they prove otherwise and if they aren’t I might feel sad or down for a few moments but then quickly accept it and walk away. Also: humor is your best friend in making friends and connecting with others. Yes, warmth and confidence - and giving.

Once I became more comfortable in my own skin and started living for me the easier it is is to engage others. I was watching this and thinking, I haven't experienced social rejection in the longest. Probably because I surround myself with others that care about self-love, self-development and are focused on being their best version. When I was blaming the world for my problems and being self-absorbed, i did experience many of the social rejection cues she mentioned.

When I took exams in college, I would think in terms of mastering the material and winning the top grade, rocking the class, LOVING the material, feeling like I won the prize just by being able to go to this college and study what I had ALWAYS wanted to do all my life. I saw exams as a joy. I rewarded myself instantly by first answering all the ones where I knew the answers. That got my confidence racing. Once all those were done, I did the ones I wasn't sure about. It always worked.

Yesss there’s something so authentic about her
Great reference to Dr. Ramani. She says often that she just doesn’t trust charismatic people because in her experience, they are almost always insincere and narcissistic. I’ve been told that I have good presence…and I strive for that balance of warmth and competence…but I am trying to make others comfortable and not necessarily to advance my own agenda. So respecting Dr. Ramani as I do, I’ve really been questioning this approach. Should I not be striving for charisma, but just for an appropriate level of warmth? But being a (small) woman in a logical male field, I worry about being “too warm.” I have been told, too, by other women and even warmer men, that I am too expressive and personal and “hand-gesturey.” I am concerned about being perceived as too smooth and manipulative or as “outside of my integrity.”
Oftentimes I feel that way with you...your words are so helpful. Thanks.
I love listening to Vanessa - she’s so charismatic, both warm and competent Thank you for this great video.

Amber you are the best!
I think the way she's describing labeling emotions to disengage is a way of bypassing/numbing the pain. I personally find it's healthier to allow the discomfort to move through you without trying to get rid of it so quickly. It depends on the situation of course: if I'm in an emergency where I need to keep a clear head, doing what she describes can be really helpful.
Thank you so much 😭😭😭😭😭 I say to myself I can't talk without moving and doing gestures with my Hands. I feel so good like being yourself out there 😌. Thank you both so much.
The slightest opportunity to go into anger and then the quickness with which they intend to apologize indicates all I need to know. An opportunity to see their ability to exercise responsibility and respect for their effects on others.
I found this interview full of easily accessible & impactful information. Giving examples of each idea physically and verbally was so helpful and fun to watch. Thank you for shining your light to illuminate the darkness and for helping others to shine theirs.

Thank you for this podcast. I found the things you and Ms Van Edwards were discussing to be so interesting that I hopped on an online bookseller and purchased her cues book during the video. As a fellow introvert (an oblivious INTJ), many of the things she said resonated with me. I also saw myself in a few of the negative phrases and cues she was describing. I can't wait to read the book.

She is so Beautiful, her in enthusiasm is very contagious. Excellent video, thank you.
I cant get over how much i enjoy her enthusiasm for her work ❤
So much of this changes when in international conversations. Culture must be considered.
so excited for our kids to start learning this stuff in school 🙌🏼

I have used this these tips to speak with patients and it really does work. I want my patients to be at ease. Especially since everyone seems so in edge these days.
I could listen to Vanessa all day! She’s such an inspiration! Thanks for this conversation Lewis ❤

I’m a realtor and not a salesperson or extroverted by nature. I will definitely be implementing these. Thank you for sharing!

wow! thank you both. to call that mandatory viewing would be an understatement of extraordinary magnitude. one of the best ways you can spend an hour fourth. unless you have no desire to see the rest of your life and the relationships within it benift. I'll be watching that a few more time . my humble thanks.
loved the question about narcissism and real charisma

This was so helpful. I'm an introvert and always look at extroverts with envy; wishing I could be like them. I hope these tips will help me to be seen and heard differently. Thank you! Also, the point at the end of this was so important. Gratitude.

@@lewishowes I remembered when Oprah did a show on things people dont know about her. She said she was an Introvert. She would rather spend her time reading books than interacting with people . She really has one friend. Gail.
Thank you for bringing up the topic of statements that sound like a question. I didn’t know why this was annoying and now know! Thanks! ♥️

Love this! My question though is how to be sincere… It’s one thing to understand and put all of this into practice, but it’s another thing to genuinely be sincere with people…
Thank you, Lewis for publishing such a valuable lesson to help build the 2.0 version of ourselves.

Knowledge is power, understanding is wisdom. This is an educational video on the different cues of charisma. People don't care how much you know until they know how much you care. Charismatic leaders utilize a wide range of nonverbal warmth and likeability cues. They display genuine smiles, maintain positive eye contact, use a variety of gestures, orient their torsos toward those with whom they are engaging, touch others during conversations, and so forth.
I loved Vanessa and Lewis' interaction! They have a lot of chemistry and can really delve into the topics with examples. Great job!

I learned a lot esp for an introvert like me. We have the best intentions but it does not come across. Probably one of your best episode. So authentic. So grateful and appreciative for what you do.

I just stumbled across this video and I'm glad I took the time to watch it. I have always considered myself very observant of people's body language. I'm a shy person and this video validates so much for me. The thing I lacked was countering the cues I was getting from others.

In all her brilliance, it’s hard to pick a favorite moment, but for me the true highlight of the interview is when Vanessa addresses the “question inflection,” something that has driven me crazy for such a long time, but I never really understood why until now. So insightful…I love this interview!
