Great point about only being able to configure from a PS5. These days controllers are expected to be able to be fully usable on PC, and especially with Sony bringing first party games to Steam, configuration from PC should be standard. I bought three Dual Sense controllers (I don't know why) and ALL of them have drift.

I forget who it was that was talking about the locking mechanism, but they explained there are some gaming tournaments that only allow wired controllers. If the controller is unplugged, even accidentally, the player gets disqualified. So the locking mechanism prevents that from happening.

The reason your elite series 2 gets misaligned and seems like it needs to be a two handed job for you (4:26) is because you’re supposed to pull that soft liner off of the magnetic base altogether. It’s only placed there for shipping to protect the prongs, otherwise it should be completely removed. I have 3 elite series 2s and I just throw them on the docks and they line up perfectly every time. Alternatively you don’t NEED to keep the magnetic base inside the zippered pouch either. I just keep the bases on my tv stand and throw them on when I’m done playing. This way I don’t have to open a case every time. I get it if you want to protect your controller but to me it just adds more clutter to the stand that I’d rather not have. I think the charging base (and the internal battery) is one of the most underrated and unappreciated features of the elite series 2. I just pick up a controller it’s always fully charged and ready to go. The batteries last way longer than I’ll ever be playing so that has been one of my favorite features. Now that I’ve had my elites for years I cant go back to not having 4 back buttons either. I’m so used to using the back buttons that I rarely even use the face buttons anymore. Not having 4 on the PS controller seems like a big missed opportunity, even my steam deck has 4 back buttons. Hope this helps.

  • @Oracle2448

Now ill tell you why keeping the felt on and in the pouch is better long term. 1. Leaving it in the open causes a lot of dust to build up, and the elite series 2 doesn't have much going for it in terms of dust resistance. This can cause drift, and many people complain and blame Microsoft for making shitty controllers. 2. Leaving the felt on and not charging it every time you're done using it, rather than when needed will help keep your controller in good shape. And in his case, it seemed it wasn't lined up right and was further back so the felt was closer to the pins, mine is lined up well and I do not have any issue pulling it back and putting it on to charge. 3. All your things are in one place makes it easy to change things. While your controller is docked charging.

I hope they don't use haul sticks because they are highly overrated, they are far from perfect and has its own different issues over the standard controllers. I have the gulikit zen pro with the haul sticks and it had latency/lag issue and bad drift out of the box. I bought a secondary one to see if there were some kind of defect but it turns out they were both the same. The calibration was so bad when I tested them on in the switch's calibration menu. The analogs were all over the place. However after a firmware update the latency/lag was fixed as well as the analog calibration was way better than they came out of the box, not perfect but a lot better. The dreamcast was the last console to use haul sticks and I see why. I have a video that I'll upload doing a review on these soon

I'd rather they all use sticks that do not ever need replacement than to engineer everything to have replaceable ones. But also, lol if it only gets 4 hours of battery. That means Xbox Elite and Switch Pro controllers get a MINIMUM of TEN TIMES the battery life. I've never measured, but my Elite controller feels like it gets closer to 80 hours than the supposed 40 in the specs. For anybody that thinks it's not significant: you are putting 10 times the number of cycles on that DualSense battery, so it will need replacement much, much sooner.

I have Xbox and PS5 so I’ve spent a few months with an Elite Series 2 and just picked up the DS Edge. There is no question that the Elite feels “elite”. It’s very premium, from the triggers to the grips, d-pad, and thumbsticks. The buttons are also “clicky” like all Xbox controllers. I only use 2 of the back paddles and even then, I find myself accidentally pressing them because they sit flush against the grip. Apart from that, love the Elite. The Dualsense has an option of two bumpers if you don’t want to use the paddles, and I love them. No more accidental presses. The trigger stops do have a little more give, even on the shortest setting, than the Elite. Not a deal breaker for me. I love the customization settings being built into the PS5 as I have no plans to use the controller on a PC. I do wish that the additional sticks included weren’t all dome. There is no swappable d-pad option like on the Elite. Great to know you can swap out the thumbsticks components if you ever needed to, but that’s a feature I hope to never need. Still, it’s the best controller for PS5. Worth $200? No. This thing should’ve been priced around $140. Just not enough value given the lowered battery life, no real upgrade tot he texture, and use of same plastic components as on a regular Dualsense.

I've had an Xbox Elite controller 2 for about 3 years now and the two bumpers have basically completely failed at this point. They both press in and about 90% of the time they get stuck and I have to manually pull them back out to their neutral position. The sort of like grip wrap around on the two handholds has also like deteriorated and the glue holding them on has lost its hold I guess. 3 years seems like good long while for a controller to hold out, but I think it's important to put into consideration the long term build quality when deciding to buy something that's sold at a HUGE premium.

I'm actually even more glad I learned soldering when I got seriously into game collecting 7 years ago. Dismantling consoles and controllers is no longer daunting, and replacing potentiometers on drifting sticks has become a really trivial task at this point. In fact, the way I've been getting controllers for cheap nowadays is through cleaning/repairing/refurbishing stick drift controllers from ebay. Got a dualsense last year for only £20. The stick drift didn't even require soldering for repairing the faulty potentiometer, just a cleanup.

2 back buttons vs 4 back buttons. You won't be able to reach d-pad with your right thumb with a DS-Edge. You won't be able to press LT and LB together with the same finger with a DS-Edge. DS-Edge is more expensive. DS-Edge has relatively small BAT life. Need to charge more frequent = degrades faster = controller subscription. Speachless...

many people use pro controllers as accessibility devices, and say you have nerve damage, muscle issues or missing fingers, 4 paddles is a really great option for working around that. I found the cable lock made an already top heavy controller, more top heavy. my suspicion is that because the battery life is lower, they maybe use the cable lock as a psychological block to keep them more likely to keep it plugged in.

how do you get 11-12 hrs? my bars are dim, triggers are medium, speaker is low, mic is off and a standard Dualsense lasts me 5-7hrs. as for the other 6 i have, i havent tested them enough to determine battery life. 3 are in box (2x ragnarok), and my DS Edge lasts 5hrs.

You didn’t test the Battery, I have it and after 4 and a half hour it shows you need to charge it but it goes around almost 2 hours more to a total of 6 hours and 42 minutes for me. It’s a good battery after all, if you also have the charging base then you are set.

The cable lock is probably for professional reasons. A cable disconnect will pause the game, and it's an auto lose of the round in a fighting game tournament for example.

  • @michaelmurphy9701

Couple things to note here The lock is for competitive play specifically, for example if you disconnect your controller / fight stick while in tournament for something like Street Fighter, that is an automatic disqualification (at the very least you lose a round). Bob touched on this but most players usually don’t utilize all 4 back buttons, 2 is more than enough, seeing as how most miscellaneous third party controllers only use 2 like the 8bitdo Ultimate. The reason it looks the same as a base Dualsense controller is because Sony specifically asked pro players how they felt about the weight and size of the original and how that would correlate to a pro controller (Bigger, smaller, heavier, lighter) and were asked to keep the form factor exactly the same. Overall Bob is a casual gamer (not an insult) and you definitely need to do your own independent research before coming to your conclusion. Sony has a video explaining who the controller was for and why it was made. Likewise you should also look at pro gamer input to more so see what they think; remember guys it’s a *Pro Controller* don’t just buy it because it has shiny new back buttons. Now I don’t disagree on the Dualsense applications on PC. Those will be ironed out with time (perhaps in the coming weeks). My guess is; statistically most people use an Xbox controller on PC and most games don’t utilize the adaptive triggers (or the haptic feedback for that matter) so they’re catering to the core console audience first. It’s not like every PlayStation exclusive is on PC as is. Not necessarily right but understandable *for now* Still love you Bob, have a good one guys.

  • @bosh__
    @bosh__ Жыл бұрын

So the reason that lock is there for the cable is that Dualsense controllers can be used in wired mode - meaning you're not worried about interference or delay when playing competitive games. The lock is there cos if you're playing this, and it gets ripped out your game is done for

On a note about drift, I've had my Joycons for longer and used them a lot more than my Dualsense controller. But my Dualsense is the one that has drift problems. So much so that I went ahead and bought a new one. In context, I bought my PS5 to play GT7, and I play that with a steering wheel. I've only really played Returnal and Spiderman, so it's a very small amount of usage to begin having drift issues. In contrast, I completed Zelda BotW with all the shrines, I got about 60% of all the moons in Mario Odyssey, I completed 3 pokedex, I shiny hunted a bunch of pokemon, and I have about 100 hours into my village in animal crossing. All of that with the original joycon and I still have no drift issues.

Hopefully Astro will release a PS5 compatible version of the C40 at some point. I picked one of those up for my ps4 and never touched a first party ps4 controller after that. It not only has the replaceable thumbsticks, but the thumbstick and d-pad positions can be flipped around to make it a more xbox style controller (or even some abomination where both sticks are on the left side of the controller), plus the sticks can be recalibrated for minor stick drift instead of replacing them. If they could upgrade it to have the four back triggers like the xbox elite that would be great as well

after having used 2 elite 2 series (first one B and A buttons kept getting stuck) this 2nd one the LB is intermediate working and the A button seems to get stuck every so often.. i still see no reason to go over to the dual sense which may come with stick drift out of the box? has less comfort (thumb cramps) less battery life, why? the X, O, T, S buttons are spaced out more, why? im a fat thumb/finger gamer. and to top it off it costs me little over 115 to replace my Elite series 2 instead of 220. im sure Sony does some things right, but it doesn't work for me.
