PS4 Disc Drive No Power - Trying to Fix It!
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
I received a PS4 from a viewer (Thanks Andy!) who had taken it to a repair shop who tried to fix the disc drive but were not able to do so. The repair shop said it was a problem with the APU on the motherboard. I try to diagnose and repair the disc drive.

About This Video: Viewer Andy sent his PS4 in because the disc drive is not reading discs. He already had another shop try to fix it but it still isn't working. Now Steve at TronicsFix is going to see if he can fix it. Potential fixes include replacing a chip, replacing a fuse, and cleaning up some flux on a ribbon cable.

Worst case, you just replace everything in it, and it's fixed. So, I don't think that it's so much a question of whether it can be fixed as how much of the original is left when you're done or whether you give up before you've replaced enough to make it work.

TronicsFix i have a broken xbox im thinking of sending it to you to see if you could do something about it, my xbox displays normally but after a few mins of being on it shows a overheating warning i don’t understand stand why because ive opened it up and checked the fan and it was running normally
great fix i like that you were honest in your video and showed your errors which helps us as the viewer. I think it was both because a fuse only blows if the circuit is overloaded by a bad part. Maybe when you replaced the chip the first time it was not getting voltage because of the bad fuse so disc drive didn't work at all. just my thoughts.

Ya, that's definitely a possibility. I hate it when I don't know for sure what caused the problem...but still happy in the end that at least it was fixable.

@@Tronicsfix omg man look at 1:27 you can clearly see that the chip rotates 90 degrees when you dropped it and you didn't check it and rotate it back. I saw it and was like... It turned, He's gonna check it tho right? Right? Omg he's soldering it! No!
Glad you showed your mistake. I remember once building a PC I forgot to plug in the power to the CPU and it took me a while to figure out what was wrong.
Wow, console repair has come a long way from "Disc Read Error" on the PS2 with the PT1 serials. I love your testing and troubleshooting methodology - the principles apply to any aspect of technology, including the need to eat crow from time to time. Loved this vid - great fix!!

I love the fact that you show when fixes don't 'magically' work at the first attempt. If there's something I learn from each one of your videos is to embrace victories and keep a good spirit when things cannot be fixed. If we all had that approach in life we would certainly live in a better world!
I appreciate an honest tech ,Refreshing . nice work and worth watching
I find your fixes and delivery of your method soothing to watch. I'm subscribing.
These are so good. I have no confidence in doing any of this to my electronics but to know someone can is very good to see. Thanks for the tips and insights!
Thanks for these videos. I’ve always loved repairing things and because of these, I purchased a few tools and started repairing electronics for friends and family! It’s been a fun hobby and I always learn from your videos. Excited to see what’s next!

It hurts my eyes to see something so small. Well done. Main thing is you fixed it. Nothing beats an “I fix it” feeling
It was nice that you admitted about the mistake on the chip. Sometimes as viewers we think that professionals never make silly mistakes. Thank you and keep on keeping on!
No one is perfect! Sometimes mistakes happen! What is important is that you fixed your mistake. 👌🏻
As someone who's fixed plenty of consoles in his time, though not at the component level (apart from 8-bit machines), I'm really enjoying your vids. Another new subscriber.

This channel is making me want to fix broken things around the house :) Gr8 content. cheers
I like it. you saved the chip by not changing, but just replacing the fuse. I think you did an excellent job, and the pin wire replacement was very well done. just don't know how you kept from blowing that ic when you turned it wrong. that gives power to components in ways not calculable. good job all in all.
I have my own tyre business and been in the trade for 22 years. I know what your saying when you get complacent and then you make what's called a school boy error 👍😋
"i put the chip on wrong" lol ouch. it happens man. i love watching you fix broken stuff. it's inspired me to pick up a soldering iron, a multimeter, and a bunch of crazy screw drivers so i can start poking around at broken things too. Every time i've built a PC, the feeling of having it turn on and post just felt so good. i imagine fixing broken handhelds and consoles could feel the same.
Tbh I've watched so many of your videos over the last 3 hours, I just skipped to the end to see the result on this one lol. Awesome content, thank you =)
