BROKEN Taco Bell Xbox One X - But Can I Save The Bell?! This Taco Bell Limited Edition Xbox One X cost $168 (plus shipping) on eBay and, according to the seller, has a power on/off issue. The Xbox has clearly been opened before and seems like it might be having an overheating issue when I try to start it up.

I doubt heat alone would kill it. Pretty much every modern CPU/GPU/APU/whatever will turn itself off to expressly prevent damage caused by heat. Heck, most chips these days are perfectly fine running 80-90c all day, every day. From what the seller describes it sounds like it just died. I'm guessing he took it apart after that so while not putting thermal paste certainly didn't help anything, it probably wasn't the cause of the overall failure.

I'll tell you exactly what happened to this Xbox: It had a legitimate overheating problem at first so the owner took it to somebody that claimed they could fix it. Turned out that they had no f'n idea what they were doing and damaged the system's heatsink in the process while forgetting to replace the thermal paste they _scraped_ off... *When the speaker delaminated, that was actually a good thing. It's probably how it was originally installed. That small board it was on was probably attached to the mainboard, then the wires were soldered to it, and then it was glued to the speaker board.* Following that way, you could have repaired it closer to factory...

How can someone NOT put thermal paste on an APU/CPU/GPU when removing the old one. Even those guys who blasphemously mix new thermal paste with the old at least know that there needs to be something there also that guy who "repaired" the Xbox needs to be nowhere near any DIY tools or repair shop he mangled a heatsink by scraping thermal paste off it with what was probably a screw driver or a tweezer or something then he didn't bother replacing it and didn't even fully clean off the old one which fried the whole Xbox MOBO
