@ProfessorElb Sorry I didn't respond sooner. Essentially, the spacer is just electrical tape TAPED to itself. There is no right or wrong way to do it. The idea is just to make it thick and durable so that it doesn't move around under normal use and so that it holds its shape. As I recall, I took a piece of tape, taped it to itself a few wraps, then took the roll of electrical tape and wrapped the crap out of it, ensuring it would fit well in the little cut-out where the ribbon goes.

hi mine shows the error code at 99% everytime even when i take out the bd drive or wifi card no matter what it show the 8992f14e error after 99%. Also tried with a new hdd formatted to ntsc then went to safe mode for system update but after saying checking please wait the console turns off. Please help!

This truly worked to fix this code. It has a terrible connection and it's really easy to access. A few screws and you can see for yourself how bad the connection is. Make sure both ends are secured. Thanks Jess!

There were a problem with CD-ROM connection in my case. Looks like this error appears, when there are problems with CD-ROM or HDD connection. You have to disassemble the console and check everything inside.

It didn't work for me, my clip was never broken, still have the same error code 8002F14E. I am wondering if I should attempt to reformat the hard drive, and if so, how do I go about doing that? I go into safe mode and it still just goes back to the update screen and stops at about 74% and does the same thing if I restart it, each time... Help me obiwan Kenobi

my Ps3 updates fine except it cancels itself after it finishes 100%. i just got this thing from my brother because it stopped playing discs. i cleaned the laser broke a clip and a pulled the red and black wires out of the plug. soldered the wires sloppily. must be working..idk? lol. taped the clip. the disk makes noise but cant check it because its still trying to update. i caused the updating manually as wireless thinking i conected to my wireless without any wireless usb plug in the back of my PS3. Any one have a clue about mine?? please help. are ps3's able to run wireless without the usb?

My install would get to 66%. I re-opened my system and double checked my cables and found one that was not connected. After re-connecting the cable, it worked. Blue-ray still doesn't work though.

(Part 3) that insures that the Blu-day disc player will ACTUALLY press down on any spacer that you have created.. before it, my issue, which I didn't notice until my final attempt, was that this spring was pressing on ONE end of the spacer (a pencil in my case) only, and messing up the way the weight should be distributed above the ribbon to insure all of the connections.... Sorry for spamming this but i think this may help lots of people.... Also, when you do this successfully you PS3 may not..

(Part 4 - FINAL POST) be able to read discs.... This was solved for me by going to the PS3 Boot menu... (look up on Google or whatever how to get to this menu)... and doing "Restore File System" (i think that's what it was called if I remember correctly)... Afterwards everything worked perfectly for me, and I did not have to delete ANY saved data or reformat the hard drive at all. I hope this helps people who had these SUCKY issues after working hard to fix the YLOD.. Thanks again JessTechingUp

mine was bugging me for a couple days. it happened after i took off the ribbon to takeout a couple games that got jammed in by my baby brother. anyways i took off the ribbon but thank god mine didnt break like others. after i couldnt figure out what happened i reset the blu ray drive completely, took the HDD out - put it together and i see it actually work! Like WHAT??? TRY IT??

(Part 2) pressing hard on the pencil contraption i created that substitutes as the ribbon clip..... One thing I NEEED to add to the method that people should know (and my problem was only solved after I realized this) is that on the bottom of the blu-ray player, right around where it sits above the clip to the motherboard, is a sort of metal Spring (its not a spring but serves a similar purpose that distributes the weight of the drive UNEVENLY over the substitute spacer..You can unscrew it and..

I fixed the problem by pushing the ribbon cable a bit under the clip and pushing it down with some pressure to fix the cable. contact established again - error was gone.

i know it is the end of 2017.. and yes this helped me even on a ps 3 slim.. cheers! :)

Mine goes up to 99% and then gives me the error. I took off the ribbon out from the blu ray drive and still got up to 99% any idea why?

It's probably not the blu-ray drive, but I wouldn't be the guy that would know. It could be an issue with the hard drive. Maybe it downloads the update, but there isn't enough room on the hard drive to extract the content and install. Good luck.

If people are having trouble with a broken ribbon cable which seems to be a pretty common cause for this error, I stuck cardboard in with the cable similarly to this guy: watch?v=d0DdcT58UZM and now my PS3 is running great. Cheers.

Omg. Omg. Omgggg. Broooooooooooo. Omg. It eorked for me. From 49 and boooooo 100%. Brooooo thank you so much. It worked for me. I saw a few comments saying it didnt work for them. I was like. Hmmm im always having bad luck. It will not work for me but it did!!!!!

The trick when solving the issue of the broken clip is not to just have contact but to have enough pressure on on the ribbion to the connecting part on the mother board, i used a dial caliper and found that if you use 4 layers of regular paper that will give you .16 thickness and you squeeze that on top of the ribbion inthe plug on motherboard
