Bro how to kbow that your usb is in MBR And How to Convert it to MBR

Fix - 1. Boot to safe mode 2. Select option 5 (Restore ps 3) 3. It will ask to enter USB for update 4. Enter USB with ps3>update>.pup and go ahead 5. If error of - no update found 6. Then press select & start and quickly remove controller (this step works here) 7. Go ahead with instructions 8. Sorted

You are a life saver! I was trying for several hours to set up my 1 TB HDD, but this same issue persisted. Finally managed to set up the new HDD. My thought is, maybe the controller plays some role here. I have a 3rd party controller that works in safe mode. As soon as I remove it like your video, it works. Glad I found your video. :D

3rd party controller has nothing to do with it. Even Sony's own makes it malfunction.

this is the first time ive ever see a tut that do in linux.

Hi I was having a similar issue install update 8.9. This is what I did. First some some hard disk got some bad format to be in the safer side just format it to nfts or use AOMEI partition assistant to format it. Next plug in your usb with the update file and turn on your console. Remember to plug in your controller as well. Right after you get the screen to press select and start at the same time, do that and unplug your controller quickly after you get the next screen . That should do the magic. In the next screen just plug back your controller and follow onscreen instructions. Enjoy !

Format HDD to NTSF?

I dont know if there are comments from 2023 in here but this video still worked the only difference is the update is 3.9 instead of 3.8 but everything else is spot on listen to this man about how to fix this error.all the threads i was reading was i had to buy a new $60 HdlD but this man just saved my wallet I thank you for a very well made and detailed video.

Thank you. This helped a lot! One thing I did notice is that the ps3 does not always see some USB drives. So be aware of that also or you could be doing this for weeks. Try several USB drives just in case.

Holy hell .. This took me 7 hours to figure out .. without this vid it would of taken me weeks or never. .. Ok.. I literally just shut off the system and didn't lose data .. I will run thru how it went down while it's still fresh. Follow everything mentioned in the vid. 1 thing that can be done is to use ANY update meaning CFW 4.88 or OFW 4.88 (aka custom firmware or original firmware) Now if you want to preserve your HDD data your gonna have to have another drive on hand ..do everything mentioned here with the "dummy" drive installed and set aside your old HDD with your data.. Once you get thru everything and setting up the system again like new shut down and take out the dummy drive and install the old HDD. Than start up again..you will have to follow a couple of steps that you just did with the dummy drive BUT this time it won't ask to format so your data is safe and..that's it...I had to install wikistore again but otherwise everything else is the same as it was..games etc.. Now here's a weird issue that happened during the initial update with the dummy drive. It got to 99% and got stuck. I let it sit there for a good 30min before meddling with it.. I read somewhere to try this and it worked.. Unplug the drive from the system and plug it back in (don't put the entire drive back together yet.. leave the plastic cover slide thing and screw till last once everything is working again).. once you unplug the drive stick it right back in but do it quickly.. barely take it out of the system. Just unplug it and plug it back in.. than it will fail with another error. .. it will go from 99% to 100% and all is well again..maybe it doesn't happen to you..as mentioned in vid the PS3 can be quirky sometimes. That's pretty much it.. easy to say "pretty much it" after the fact but it's really kinda easy once you know but can be very frustrating after failing so many times.. Thanks again and good luck to all... This works and I believe it's mainly the unplugging of the controller BUT also as mentioned in the vid a possible corrupt file from playstation file.. that's how I found out the 4.88 cfw works too.. P. S... If you want everyone to see this vid post the error on the title.. it's amazing I found it without the code 8002F334

Following everything you said, It did not work for me 😕 I used gparted instead to set the partition into msdos the equivalent of mbr in linux I love Kali linux by the way, and that did the trick😄 thanks for sharing

I tried this entire process with a 16GB flash drive formatted in FAT32. It continually gave me the "No applicable update data was found" error. I eventually stuck in a 1GB stick and was given the option in windows to format it in the older FAT format, so I did that and the PS3 started seeing the .PUP file as "applicable" YAY!

@@coquelicotqc5307 you can try to update in recovery if that dosent work you can update it from usb on your usb create a folder called ps3 all big word and in that folder update also all big and in update folder put ofw you have downloaded from Sony web in update folder then just put usb in Sony and go i update on ps3 but this time choose update via s media

Hola Deide. Dijiste que eras de Brazil, y, bueno, no hablo portugués, pero sí el español. Pero básicamente tienes que desenchufar el control de tu PS3 justo después de empezar a buscar la actualización que tengas en la tarjeta de memoria USB.
