Unfortunately in life you will always get people moan.I personally love the channel and the fact your bringing a Rover 827 back to life gets a massive thumbs up from me.After working for 12 yrs at Longbridge ive still got a soft spot for all things to do with Rovers.Keep up the great work.

I agree, no need to call it the Haynes book of lies, but as you say some people always know better.

This series really has no right to be as good as it is. Outstanding production and editing, fascinating subject and great execution. Punching so far above your weight.

Ru-ay-ben is the bloke you'd wished was always over your shoulder when you were 17 stuck under your first banger on a Sunday afternoon on your dad's drive knowing you had to get the cv boots done before the mot on Monday morning. Love him to bits

@@richardharrold9736 Roobin is the kinda guy who gets the hoof from a rolls Royce dealer service centre when it shuts in a recession and ends up in a BL dealer cam belting rover 825’s for kenning and sucking air through gritted teeth when a 6 day old metro comes back full of water and granny’s wet . He drives the apprentices mad with words a past generation loved to hear but in this day and age it’s a blast from the past . Get that man a monacle and smoking jacket 🧥

My first 6 cylinder car was a Rover 827 auto saloon (not fastback) I think it was the si model in this colour. I called it “the armchair” as it was so comfortable. Them were the days.

From the beginning of the saga of this rover, this is one of my favourite series of tinkering on a car on KZread :))

My dad had the 825 sterling with a manual box. Lovely drive. It had hydraulic lifters and adjustable arm like a mini. Done that twice leant over the engine. Bit of a pig to do the rears. Let rover do the cam belt. Took em 2 days, as not happy it was timed right. Such a smooth drive, great motorway car.

enjoying watching this. my dad had one back in the 90s. he had a 1983 polo what failed its mot badly £450 for welding he said not worth it. so needing to get a car for work and not a lot of money there was a 1988 rover 827 for sale on the roundabout where he used to live, it had 8 months mot and 6 months tax for £200 with "slight engine fault", so needing a car my dad baught it. 1st day he drove it to work he found out what the "slight engine fault" was..when he first started it up from cold the engine would rev to 1500rpm once it got warm it would kangeroo down the road (jolting like what happends when you keep pressing and letting go of the throttle). turned out to be a vaccum leak, £2 for a bit of rubber pipe fixed it, he had the car for the next 5 year. passed each mot not costing him nothing. regular oil changes,new spark plugs and air filter every 5000 miles.other than a set of brake pads it just ran n ran n ran never let him down.then the petrol prices started rising and with my dad only on £3 an hour(security guard, no minimum wage back then) just started to get too expensive to run. so he sold it for £700. he looked for a 820 (smaller engine) but a lot suffered bad rust and were getting scrapped finding a good one was impossible. so he ended up with a 1988 ford granada 2.0i ghia. the last time i saw the rover the old man who baught it off my dad was still driving it about in 2004. in 2006 it was parked in a garage and the old man who baught it off my dad had passed away. i moved out of the area in 2009 as my dad passed away, so dont know what happend to it after that. your doing a good job and your attention to detail is nice to see. subscribed for the next episode👍

Would love to see videos on those Peugeots if they ever do see the road again - two very rare cars and I'd never even heard of the bodykitted saloon version before. As for the 827 - great to see it coming along, they were lovely cars and now they're finally old enough to be appreciating in value, now is a great time to be saving them.

Definitely not a dig or a complaint, just a little tip in case you weren't aware. When mixing body filler of any sort, cardboard isn't the best base to use as it can absorb up to like 20% of the filler you've poured out. Not a huge deal, but I noticed you had some laminated cardboard, which would work a lot better as a mixing base. Love the videos, keep it up!

Fantastic documented journey of a car I never really liked, but with you and your team putting so much care and attention into it, I’ve found a little bit of love for the old rover! Well done that man.

I’ve been watching this from the start and it’s good to see a Rover getting some love, I have always loved the 800 series Rover, to be honest I love most Rover’s, and having driven many 827 sterling’s and a 820 turbo Vitesse I have a love for them. I think a nice set of either Vitesse or sterling alloys would set the green off nicely

Had an 820i SE from what I recall, stunning car and very quick for the time. Always wanted an 827 but never happened. Great work keep it up

I passed my test on an SD1 then my Dad decided to get one of these. I loved driving them, very responsive for its time. Great work getting this machine back and on the road, bravo to your both!

Amazing content, am loving the old Rover stuff and to add to your point on tyres, as a mechanic, if you have cracks in your tyres it can fail it's mot if the tester can see the structure of the tyre through the cracks

Superb Work! It's great to see this Rover 827 Fastback being brought back to life. I worked at Cowley on these and it brings back so many memories of these when they were new! This one is a true rare survivor in amazing condition! WELL DONE 👍👍👍👍👍

Hi, enjoying this series as used to love 800s. Check the variable intake system is working OK. You can see the metal levers under the throttle body. At idle and up to 2500 rpm ish, the levers should be at rest position which is towards the radiator. Then at 2500 to 3500 they should be seen to move to a middle position so move towards bulkhead. Then over 3500 they should move again to near bulkhead, so three positions and two which are actuated. If it does not work, you will not be getting full performance. The system is vacuum controlled and actuated by two solenoids in the control box on the bulkhead. Often the solenoids get stuck and need a little love to work again so the vacuum goes to the actuator as the ECU wants.

Great videos... the two of you could be on TV no problem. love 90s Rovers, and love the827! I think my Dad's 1990 Rover 216 came with Dunlops too... I remember liking that they looked sporty.... I'd have been tempted to stick to some sort of Dunlop tyre to keep the link. Can't wait to see it at the NEC!

That pesky red stripe on the bumpers just flaked off after a couple of years, and that was when it was new! That said, it was chrome underneath. So we helped it along. Good humour and a healthy 'that'll do' attitude. 👍🇬🇧

Wow, just stumbled on your channel and as luck would have it, I used to have the 1987 Series 1 825 S model sold in the states. Loved the interior trim and the overall fit and finish. Great ride on the Interstate highways here. The US dealer network however was another story. Glad you all are saving this one. Love your banter back and forth with Reuben and the musical interludes while pulling bits off the car. I'll be looking forward to episode 5. Cheers from Mexico.

Having watched parts 1-3 I then saw this at the NEC on Sunday. You have both done a great job and car looked great. A little nostalgic for me as my dad had an 820 mk1 and then a Vitesse when I was a kid. Great work guys. It was great to show my dad the car on Sunday as id been going on about this series to him.

I owned 2 x mi16 back in the day when they were current , loved them and would Love another , seen them in the background , another 405 mi16 is absolutely top of the list in my car wish list but they’re so rare and usually too far gone

Just to echo some of the below, ignore the trolls! You guys are hugely watchable, loving the quotes including the young ones, and car is really starting to look decades younger, as I wish I did! Lol. Cheeky swipe, 39?? How hard was your paper round man? ;)

I recently bought a 1988 Lotus Excel. With just under 62,000 miles on the clock, the seller said the belt had been changed at 43,000 miles. The belt change interval on the Lotus 900 sereies engines is 2 years, or 24,000 miles for the 'classic' trapezoidal tooth belt, 3 years or 36,000 miles for the later round tooth HTD belt. The belt wraps around less than 90 degrees of the inlet cam pulley, so it's relatively highly stressed. A prerusal of the MOT history revealed that 43,000 miles would have been sometime around 2014, so by any measure, well overdue for a belt change. The seller offered to get it done, but had never heard of a belt tension gauge, so I negociated a deal that included delivery, but left the belt change to me. When the car turned up, the belt was very slack and a Unipart item. Unipart tend to multi-source, so you've no idea of the manufacturer. Gates only and Lotus spec (some compatible belts are not the OEM width). Not a difficult job and the belt tension can be set by using a phone app to measure the plucked frequency. Of course, during the belt change, I discovered the accellerator pumps on the twin 45 Dellortos were squirting more fuel ove the distributor and down the block, than they were down the intakes, so a full carb rebuild had to be done.

It's coming along nicely, the Peugout 405's look interesting. I was hoping that you'd tell us a little about the red 405 as I'd had a 1989 GRD 1.9. I eventually changed the rear axle for a GTX axle (drums to disc's), cracking car👍

Couldn't agree with you more on the terribleness of bodywork: I reckon it's because with other fixes you can usually 'Haynes it': just wind back what you've done, then move forward. But trying to reverse body repairs is a harder job that it was before you started. Really enjoying this series - thanks

A good usable classic car is one which you can buy for a good price and use everyday for domestic trips to the supermarket,going to work or just for fun Who cares about the odd 'dent or ding or missing piece of trim? See what I did there???? 🤔😆' cars are meant to be used and abused and enjoyed life's to short to store cars away and not enjoy them properly. Gr8 video - again - I was interested that you like Falken tyres. I drive a nearly new Toyota Corolla and have changed the original Falkens for Michelins . The Toyota owner forums complain about the road noise with Falkens. It does seem quieter with Michelins.

Blimy a L7X in a Pug 205. Ive had 2 Laguna V6's with that engine. Its a gem. However Renault, Peugeot and Citroen have removed all parts support for the L7X. So getting parts are a real issue. All the PCV hoses break as they are plastic. And the cam covers are plastic and leak oil really bad. Top tip, you can use the ECU chip from a Clio V6 Ph1 for a bump in power to 220bhp.

Thanks for the info, interesting the different codes used for essentially the same engine, in the pug 406 they are the xfx and xfz, or D8 and D9. Mine is the earlier D8 pre multiplex wiring. Hopefully I'll have an increase of power when I eventually fit the itb's and DTA s6 ecu!
