Project 827 - Disaster Detail - First Clean in over 20 years!

Welcome to part five of Project 827, the penultimate part in this series. And this is the one you have been waiting for - THE BIG DETAIL. Having not been washed, decontaminated and polished in well over 20 years (if it all), the paint was very tired. Could we fix it? No, of course no, which is why we brought Tom in from Reflective Valeting and Detailing. Tom has been keen to work on this car ever since we bought it, so it seemed only right to let him loose!
In this video, we show you all the steps of a one-day paint restoration valet, we let you know what's going on, why we're doing what we're doing, and what it all means. Oh, and the Rover 827 looks INCREDIBLE at the end of it!

These have been such a great watch. And kudos not only to the duo (who have been entertaining without being too much, I hope you do more series' like this!) but to the editors as well for a great series of videos. Thanks for not slapping some sh*t house music on top of the footage, and for making them an absolute joy to watch. There's a review you never asked for 😂, but it's easy to forget that these videos are for the most part, all free, so thank you for that. The Rover turned out great too, I bet you're a little sad to see it go.
I'm sad that the series is near its end.Watching the journey has been an absolute pleasure. The car looked stunning after having been detailed wow just wow.Take a bow my friend well done on bringing back a classic to life.
These really have aged exceptionally well. Unapologetically 80s and it's so good to see it with the original wheel trims to compliment all the rest of the hard work everyone has put into it. Hoping the only painful part of the sale for you is seeing the happy new owner drive away in it.
My dad had a first year Sterling 825SL in red with tan leather here in California. In the first year it was recalled for paint and new rubbers all around. After that it was a great car. The first time I drove over 100 mph (made it to 120 if memory serves) was in that car. The rear reclining seats were fun too. I always liked the hatch back style. Thanks for a great series.
Guys, you’ve done an excellent job. Being an ex-employee of Rover Group during the lifetime of the 800 series and seeing what you’ve done to revive this car brings a lump to my throat. Thank you!
Absolutlely gorgeous! I miss the days of the roads being full of Rovers. Thankfully there's one more on them now
I was one of the many admirers at the NEC. It turned out beautifully. When I first saw it in the bush my first thoughts were scrap it or at very least break it for parts. It’s gorgeous and a third of a century old now.
Having only recently discovered your KZread channel I am now a dedicated fan! The balance of humour and knowledge is refreshing. Looking forward to seeing future videos. 🇨🇦
Just looks fantastic hope this Rover 827 goes a good home 👍👍👍
Fantastic series!! A genuine pleasure to sit through. Thank you all for putting this together. If you can tell us where this ends up I'd love to know that is safe and sound! Can we do another one? 😃😃
Cleaner than when it left the factory, for sure.
What a journey and a lovely ending. Its beautiful.
I saw this car at the NEC this year and spoke to Chris. It’s an absolutely gorgeous car. Kudos to you and the guys working on it. ❤
I had a 827 Vitesse in nightfire red fastback wish I still had it ,really comfortable to drive long distances ,the only car I've ever missed
Brilliant job. Brilliant Rover. Well done to all involved.
I learned on this video more about how to detail a car than any other detail videos I've ever watched.
This is such a joy for me to watch. I own my 827 Vitesse since 2009 (first car) and always watched KZread videos were they polished classics and exotics to gain knowledge about detailing. I got to know my 827 inside out and now I see this video were finally a Rover 800 is featured during a proper detail by a professional. Love it! Hope to see this Rover in real life one time.

Wish I still had mine the vitesse is a great car hope you have many more mile of driving it
Absolutely astonishing what you can do with the right tools and how paint can be brought back to a decent standard. The car looks amazing and will be cherished at the new owners delight. Well done 👍🏻👍🏻
…..I had an 820 Vitesse Turbo in BRG nearly 20 years ago. Ran it for a few years, parked it up in the back garden for another few years, then sold it for scrap…..the interior was still immaculate. Yes, I still kick myself to bits every…..single…..day 😬😢
Thought I'd seen his van driving past my garage in Welham Green Hatfield. What a transformation!!!!
I've really enjoyed this series, watching the transformation of a humble and forgotten barge into a KZread and classic car star. I totally agree about the detailing, as a former weekend warrior turned professional detailer I love making a difference to my clients and my own cars - sooooo satisfying. Keep up the good work. The car looked amazing at the NEC, a joy to beyond and a credit to you.
Well done Chris and Reuben 👏 What a great outcome and the series has been really enjoyable and brilliant shot - more of this sort of thing please!
This series of seeing this 827SI coming back to life has bought back many fond memories of the one I owned in 1989. It was a series 1 fastback but manual and a very fast car in its day. It was and is a completely underated car and it's great what you Guys have done with this survivor. Thanks for allowing us to see it come back to life and allowing me to revisit my fond memories of good times gone by.
I don't care what anyone says that Rover would look amazing done up
In. A. Bush!!! ...and it didn't even need rolling in glitter! 😉 Every credit guys!
That was a great series. Love how the car turned out. Well done to all of you!
I had the 820 version of the same car back in the early 90's. Thanks for bringing back memories of one of my favourite cars.
I have loved watching this series and the progress of this car. Such great entertainment and at the same time, watching this classic come back to life & ready for another trip round the Planet. Trouble is, how do you find another project with such charisma.
I've enjoyed the series, keep up the great content.
loved this series of vids on the 827, well done
I seriously don’t know why this channel doesn’t have more subs and views on the videos, really enjoy the content, keep it up.
I love all things Rover, I wish I could afford a good one and to then cherish it. This Rover looks amazing, well done.
Awesome video on getting the 827 back to looking in amazing condition. The clay bars really help the process.
Really enjoyed following this..do another 👍
Absolutely fantastic 👏 👌
Bilt Hamburger Autofoam is a great cleaner. I use it for everything. It even works well on the harder, dirty bits like engines and alloys.
Fabulous car and you’ve done and you and Mr Coggins have done a fantastic work. Well done! A project to remember.
Looks amazing - credit to you all for saving her!
Stunning 😍
What a journey, great video again Chris.
Yes! Been waiting for this beast to get a make over
Wow what a beautiful looking Rover 😍
I love it ,it's giving me hope my car is worth saving . THANK YOU
Chris, I know you will be sorry to see it go but needs must. I've been following the progress on this Rover and I enjoyed the banter between you and Reuben. You both bounce off each other.
Glad you didn't pressure wash the engine too much. I knackered my Dad's 87 825i, water got down the plug holes, he had to change a bank of plugs to get it to start! A couple of years later I broke his 827 Sterling, the Speedo stopped working and the S4 light was flashing.
19:59 - Nice Electric Six homage there Mr. P, I approve :)
Brilliant I've enjoyed watching this series.
I would be glowing driving that rover. What a job you have done loved following this from start to Finnish .

What has Finland got to do with this? 😅
Awesome job both of you. Tom did an awesome job bringing the best out In the paint
Brilliant series. Keep up the great work! Great to understand more behind the detailing aspect. I need to buy more detailing tools!
Chris & Ruben Brilliant video hope to see you two do another!
Wow! Amazing series so far guys. One thing - I really wish it still had those lovely dealer plates!! But really enjoyed it.
Absolutely lovely car, great colour 😀 👍 👌
What a stunning result, you should all be very proud of what you have achieved, if only I had the cash available, I love the Rover 800 series.
Brilliant restoration project guys. Looks amazing
Wow, you really did get the creme de la creme to detail it for you. Tom is a most excellent chap.
Very interesting process, love that snow-gun & the little brush. It really looks great very quickly, lots of know how & persistence. It's probably about 5kg lighter by just removing dirt.
Looks like she sold quickly !!!
Well done, it looks amazing a wonderful car saved. I had one back in the day beautiful driver. Great stuff guys
Would love to buy something like this.
Shame to see this go after you've moved into your new home but it's a credit to you, thanks for the great content 👌
That car really is a bit of me ,spectacular transformation .
Loved this series what a great car.
That went fast! I'd definitely have met the asking price had I seen it in time. Hope the buyer is very happy. You've done a superb job on a beautiful car.
excellent work :)
What an amazing result It truly is a pity that you won’t be keeping it If I were not on the other side of the world I would very much like to be the next owner I really is a rare beast and you will never find another one 😍😍👍👍
Beautiful.
I just went to buy, offer accepted Great news and a lucky purchase. Hope you have many enjoyable years to come owning her. EnJoY 😉
Firstly, I've loved this series. My dad had a 827 Si Manuel back in the mid 90's (H913 SEP) and as I was 18, I was allowed on the insurance. It was easily the fastest car amongst all my friends but coming from a Volvo 240glt, the RWD action was sadly missed. I know its a trivial, pedantic point, but Bilt Hamber snowfoam is NOT pH neutral! However, it is the best snowfoam to use for the purpose shown and although it is alkaline, it is non caustic, and generally wax safe. It is the most effective cleaning snowfoam. PH neutral snowfoams are for already clean and protected cars. Bilt Hamber don't make a pH neutral snowfoam.

My Mam had a Mg Montego back in late 80’s early 90’s Passed my driving test and was on the insurance Let me take it to college and use it when I wouldn’t too. Lads at College couldn’t believe it, youngsters these days wouldn’t even get a quote Was some car in the day
The hatchback versions of the 800 were a worthy successor to the SD1 😉🇬🇧

What coz Jane Fonda stuck there oar in Beginning of the end
Magnificent.
I'd give an arm and a leg to have that here in Thailand! I miss my old Rovers. 😢
Brilliant car, brilliant videos. Thoroughly enjoyed watching you progress with this great car. I love & own a classic car a capri 2.8i in fact… there’s nothing like owning an 80s classic. Ps please sort the nearside headlight it’s bugging me!! 😂

WHEW someone else mentioned it. Seconded! Really excellent work and a great series. Both headlights are a bit out of line, but the passenger side is OFF off. I couldn't not see it.
Looks awesome always loved these big old girls my m8 used 2 hava 827 vitesse twin turbo it went like stink had beautiful black leather recaros but it just went through gearboxes like mad never known a car like it apart all the gearbox faults it was a comfortable old rocket which until it was stolen and half torched would of kept on goin for a few more years got some good memories of that car dread 2 think how much 1 would cost these days would love this green beauty if I had the money 💰 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Beautiful car! I'd snap that up if I was in the market.
This is most therapeutic watching!! Semi skimmed or full fat? LOL.
Was that "enhancing a Legend" comment at 35:00 a deliberate Honda reference?!
Use the clay bar on the missus you can get to know every curve et al ooh er....
Screaming out for some 5 spoke alloys 👌👌👍
Set of TSW Venoms and your sorted.
i have one of them tickford turbo saloon, it's a bit past detailing it needs a repaint, never mind go's well until the clutch says no (14psi boost) proper rat car at the moment i do like rover bones
If it was LHD I'd love to own it
As soon as it had snowfoam it became a modernised sd1
That chamois looks like an Autoglym/Vileda cloth, right? I use them on my own car; best thing ever!
Impressive results, seems a bit pointless giving it a coat of polar seal to then go and clay it off and polish it though.
Cretin is such a good word.
He’ll regret huffing that PTFE vapour everyday. It’s really not good for you. Best to mask up properly if you’re gonna use it regularly as part of your work… I find acf50 works better long term anyway, but I try to avoid breathing that either, it’s also a random polymer that your body probably can’t eliminate properly.
I know he's sold it how much did he get?
My mate lost money when Rover went bump Drive Direct turned out had a share in Rover so they owned Rover dealerships and a auction My mates car was in the auction when Barclays said enough Turned out the auction was making money anyway but my mates money went Was all on borrowed time
Does the previous owner have any interest in seeing it when it's done? Would be interesting to see their reaction

Only the Vitesse and the Sterling
Superb - and not like the Skoda kind …
Ahh shame it’s sold
A bit sad to see her going for 7 grand, imo this car is worth 10k all day long but with the state of the economy right now buying a classic Rover is probably quite far down peoples list of things to do.
Came up rather well didn't it ..
I’ve known both my grown up son and my daughter go more than a month without washing their cars but twenty years is just downright bloody lazy.
Surely if it hadn’t been looked after for more than twenty years it would just be an unrecognisable pile of rust by now…something doesn’t seem quite legit here?
I can see you now in your new 2 car garage man cave burning the midnight oil with you polisher buffing yourself silly.
You worry too much about what people say in the comments 😂
God I hate that word "Dwell". What has living in a dwelling got to do with soaking a car in shampoo?
