    The fact that you've condensed decades of knowledge into less than 5 minutes is truly incredible. I never understood where the story of the match truly began but you've explained it perfectly, thank you Justin for the willingness to put this out for free so that young wrestlers like myself can benefit from your experience!!

    I stopped watching wrestling when I was a kid in the mid-80's. It didn't pique my interest again til the late 90's when a friend mentioned some organization called ECW. I started watching, and actually became enthralled because of...storytelling. And one of the wrestlers that really got my goat was this obnoxious, rude, and sorry bastard named Justin Credible. You did your job well. You made me give a damn. LOL Glad you're posting these vids, brother. Take care.

    Ty for this video, I love ROH but the one thing that they do that is a turn off is that sometimes it just turns into guys taking turns doing high spots. Todays wrestling fans think a good a match means a lot of high spots. i hate that. Hogan and Andre had 93,000 pay money to see them because they could tell an awesome story. they didn't have any high spots. it starts looking fake when u can can tell the guys are just taking turns doing high spots.

    I call it "pacing". A high spot is simply that, "The high spot" To me that should be singugular. Meaning as it's the high point of the match.

  • @bdr113080

    @@carlwatson281 I agree that it should also be singular or back in the day in matches Bret, HBK, Vader, Undertaker, Foley, u might have 2 or 3 if it was a long match. Today’s wrestlers thinks that’s all wrestling is so no it’s really not a high spot if 70% of the moves that are being done are moves 2 guys from the 80’s or 90’s might do once in a match. If u have a match that’s having 20-30 “high spot “ moves it’s now no longer a high spot. Because the whole match is doing a series who moves that don’t really build to another level in a match. That arm bar, the head lock, the arm drag, etc . Those moves are important because starting with those is the high spot is special 8 minutes later.

    You want to know why the best babyfaces in history (guys like Hulk Hogan, Jerry Lawler, & Dusty Rhodes) made so much money? It was because of their comebacks--the comeback literally made these guys careers, just as it did for many other babyfaces. The comeback *cannot* be an afterthought in putting together a match, or just another sequence of spots. Simply put, you cannot be an effective babyface without mastering the art of the comeback.

    this is great knowledge. good if the two major companies (WWE and TNA; maybe ROH, Dragon gate USA, Evolve, Shimmer) would have less pay per views a year, instead of once a month, in order to space out their storylines for the wrestlers - there is no long term storyline telling anymore (which is sad).. a build of a feud between two wrestlers should end at a major PPV (like a Wrestlemania or Bound For Glory) with a major (heavyweight) title match on the line (and not shown on free TV, like TNA's Genesis in Jan. 2014).

I've been a ref on the indy circuit for three and a half years and I'm always looking for advice and tips like on great refs to watch, howe a ref should do his thing in the ring, how a wrestler should work with a ref, etc. Anything to improve. Thanks a lot, pal.

    The sad part of wrestling today is that not everyone has the passion to truly learn the craft. I grew up watching wrestling in what I consider the "heyday", the 80's. Yes the "attitude era" might have been a bigger commercial and worldwide success but I personally miss the territories and the actual storylines back then. No "here is your character script, do this, say this" stuff. I enjoy watching someone (heel or face) dictate a match and seeing them pull a awesome performance out of someone.

    That's right, storytelling is very important for a wrestling match. And I say, it is so rare today that many people forogt to appreciate it. I saw it on indy shows, in TNA and in WWE. Wrestlers told a great story in the ring, but most of the fans were sitting on their hands. Maybe it's just me, but I think the crowd doesn't pop as hard as a few years ago. When I see a good wrestling match I cheer and enjoy it, even when I just watch it on TV. I can't wait for the next episode.

    I agree Justin, Guys are too worried about getting themselves over, rather than the match itself. 93-94 Shawn MIchaels was a great heel to me because he was chubby as hell but he was a bombing machine and wasnt doing so much Arial maneuvers at the time.

  • @BloodnailTV
    @BloodnailTV11 жыл бұрын

    I totally agree with what you say in this episode dude, some indy guys are too dependent on high spots without building their characters, so they end up with a double whammy of not getting higher on the career ladder and possibly shortening it by not pacing their matches better. It's definitely a case of less is more, if you create a tense david v.s goliath style match up, the audience will bound to pop if they little guy can knock the big guy off his feet once as apposed to 20 times in match.

    Peter, this is really good stuff. As someone who has wanted to go to wrestling school but it is just one of those things that isn't in the cards, these videos are extremely interesting. Someone is doing the good work and spreading the word on a website called reddit.com/r/sqauredcircle. I would also suggest getting a hold of the people who do the MLW podcast to go on and promote. They keep the talk non kayfabe and I think everyone who listens to that would be your audience for this.

    one thing I hate though is the fact that someone like lesnar has to cheat in WWE to win just because he is a heel. its so unrealistic seeing that he came from the UFC beating some of the best mma fighters in the world and holding their heavyweight title. its a big turn off imo

    Euroheat0022 He didn't come from the UFC, he started as a wrestler, then pro wrestler, afterwards he went to the UFC, and came back to the WWE. It's a classic heel, every heel cheats to win. So if it was me, I would book Brock as badass heel who just beats his opponents down.

After all, you're all prone to conflicted emotions yourselves, with your screaming, shouting promos!!!!!!! Haven't you all ever thought that by the law of attraction, IF YOU BEHAVE LIKE THAT, YOU'RE GOING TO ATTRACT WORTHLESS DEGENERATES LIKE US SMARKS, WHO HAVE NOTHING GOING FOR US BUT TO ARGUE ONLINE LIKE TENACIOUS PITBULLS???????!!!!!!!!
