    Paul's answer to you in ECW may be part of the reason it's not in business anymore. As I understand, EVERY wrestler on the card HELPS to sell tickets, ect so ALL involved can EAT, to keep it plain. Your advice in this video seems the BEST way to FEED EVERYONE as a whole. Very good video.

    I tend to agree the old bookers used to have rules on their booking sheets. For example no one on the floor before the fourth match. No unauthorized use of gimmicks. No unauthorized use of blood. No unauthorized use of main event guys move etc. It was to keep main events matches special and not to overload it and not to desensitize a person and it worked because the first match was usually two underneath guys and they would do a twenty minute draw. That was done on purpose to give people time to settle in for the main event matches and be able to start on time!

    Thanks for another great video. Even as a older guy its a great reminder. I wrestled a ton of opening matches & always felt my role was to get the crowd warmed up, excited & educate them that this Indy show was going to be legit. In shape guys who could wrestle & entertain. That was it, that was my role. It required me to be unselfish because everyone after me got the benefit, but that's why opening match is a great spot on a card. A good promotor doesn't put just anyone in the opener.

    Yup. Have to understand, the fans are watching a full show, so it's important for the performers to keep things fresh and have variety. That doesn't mean the opening guys can't do anything cool - it just means they should try to avoid high spots that are likely to occur again later in that particular show. And all you have to do is communicate. "Hey, we're thinking about doing X in our match. Anybody else already doing that?" Easy.

    Great stuff, Justin. Great to see this realistic philosophy. Question for another video: You said that if you're the opening match, have an opening match, etc. So what does/should an opening mid-card match look like? What should they be trying to achieve? What about a mid-card? How should they be worked? How should they different from the main event?

    What annoys me nowadays is the lack of the clean submission win. It seems to me that people think that by doing (insert generic face plant) that it looks flashy and adds to the finish. In most instances, it shouldn't work that way. If you work a slow methodical match, then it should never be finished with an out of the blue finishing move. To me, it is almost like breaking character which really disturbs me. You have always done a great job Justin Credible. Teach them the right way. :)

    The booker should be in charge of this. Make sure people don't repeat themselves and every match has it's place on the card. Every match should work towards making the show complete.

  • @HashBandicoot356

    Modern wrestling is completely blind to this. Every other match is as many high spots as possible. It's good (maybe) for the participants in that match but not good for a card many times. Imagine a movie structured like that, just the most insane action you can think of all over the movie randomly, basically a Michael Bay movie.

    I think it depends on the matches and the guys in them, if you've got two similar match ups on the card then i'd ask to know what spots they plan on doing just in case you both come up with the same ideas, as he he said the same with finishes, if you know someone else has the same finishing move as you, speak with them about it.

    As the greenest guy where I am I like being early on the card, like 2nd or 3rd match. Crowds usually pumped up a bit from the opening, I have just enough time to go over my match a couple times and nail everything down in my head, and by the time my match is over I can watch the monitor and only miss 1 or 2 matches.

  • @samsonlovesyou
    @samsonlovesyou10 жыл бұрын

    And can these things be reconciled with the Shawn Michaels style philosophy of having the best match, wherever you are on the card. If so, how?

  • @kshinokevin
    @kshinokevin10 жыл бұрын

    "can you guys top this match" ? / one up-man ship... over booking (every match that has "tables ladders and chairs.") - that is gonna be too much (too much gimmick matches in one show or a major PPV). I agree with his "variety" concept. I like the old school "blue cage" match as being a main event - something basic (not Hell in the Cell or Elimination Chamber), back in the day.

    As great as PWG is, they kinda have that problem that Justin mentioned as far as guys going out and doing the same spots and matches. Whenever I watch their DVD preview videos, almost every match has a dive to the outside and half of the matches have some sort of crazy sequence.I understand PWG's mentality.They want their guys to go out and have the best match they can with no limitations, but I wish their was some variety on their shows, rather than just a bunch a guys who can do cool flips.

    For the life of me I don't know how people sit through a CZW death match tournament for instance. Only so much barbed wire and broken light tubes I can watch before it gets a bit ridiculous. I'd be so burnt out as a fan just watching an entire show of that. I respect that it has its niche though don't get me wrong.

    as much as i agree with you i must point out that he did have it before the Young Bucks came around and started whoring it out to the point where every man and there dog use it know, i guarantee if you to three independent promotions you'll find ten guys minimum who use that as a finisher now

  • @pizzahighfive2612

    @@mattjones5531 actually this isn't true.. when Justin credible was doing super kick it was still a legit finishing move not used by everyone like the common punch.. Justin Credible and Shawn Michaels used em as legit finishers but even Tajiri and rikishi did em as mini finishers. BUT TODAY dude it's kinda annoying to see a super kick be nothing but a mere strike during a match... It's so annoying to see everyone and their dog doing it. That's totally a 2010s thing not a 90s thing

    It seems that the whole art of story telling in all wrestling is lost. It's really simple to plan these things because today we watch tv and have a general hour reset. If there is 9 matches the match strength should go something like this 1st match = 4th best match, 2nd match = 9th, 3rd = 3rd, 4th = 8th, 5th = 7th, 6th = 2nd, 7th = 6th, 8th = 4th, 9th = 1st. That way you open with a bang, and at every hour you have a high spot. If you don't do it like that people get bored or worn out.

    Apparently the Dudley Boyz dont agree with your view considering they did the exact same thing at Wrestlemania 17. It was the best match of the entire show in my opinion, I doubt we will ever see a tag team match of that caliber in in mainstream wrestling ever. Then again, WM17 is considered one of the all-round greatest WWE ppvs of all time... xD
