Using finger pressure as your adjustment, you are trying to either start the ball up a little sooner in the oil and have a more continuous roll down lane or create more side roll giving you more length & thus more of a "hockey stick" or angular backend shape. Check it out and lets learn together!

    Thank you for this tip for everyone. I first used it after viewing Joe Slowinki's video on tiered taping as noted by Jonas below. It may not be for everyone but it does work if done correctly; you just have to experiment. Since my thumb is not as "meaty" as some others I have to build the bottom much more. Thanks again.

    So you can build your tape how you like it, and then make a thumb mold, and pour a brand new thumb with the taper built right in, no adhesive or tape wear!

    You are correct and I do know many who do this! Given the amount of games I bowl (both in a tournament, week, month) I always like to keep enough room to add and remove as my hand goes through the changed especially in the north east were the temperature can change dramatically!!! Thanks for the great advice!!!!

    @@BkbowlingTips so here's my plan. Taper with tape to my liking for my normal thumb size. Make a mold, buff out the tape lines, make a new mold so it is smoother. Then make a few thumbs, but make each one 10% larger. As my thumb swells, I swap thumb slugs. 👌

    This is actually a great video, but I had to watch it 3 times. First time I got angry at numbers, too many fractions being thrown around 😂🤣😂. I would also recommend a reshoot filmed from above so you can actually see where you’re sticking the tape. In this format you can just see your hands while you shout random fractions. 😂🤣😂. However, I’ll give you a B+ 😁👌🏻👍🏻

    Just tried this in my ball and feels great! Look forward to trying it on the lanes. Hope my thumb swelling doesn't become an issue though, I should really get a switch thumb!

    Glad this was able to help. I really like the interchangeable Vise IT thumbs. Drilling a couple of sizes really makes a big difference. I have always been told you can’t out bowl and bad fit and having your thumb fit comfortably is so important!!!

    One other thing I do is place about three pieces of 3/8" wide white tape on the back of thumb hole where my thumbnail tends to sit. This lets my nail easily sit on top of that tape rather than bending my thumb back. My hand is totally still during the swing.

    I use one full piece of standard white 1" wide tape for the bottom. Then cut the rounded ends off of three pieces of full sized white tape. Take one of these three pieces and cut in two equal halves. Take two of the remaining two pieces and cut them to 3/4's length which will give you two 3/4 pieces and two 1/4 pieces. Place two 3/4 length pieces on the full size tape to start and place two of the 1/2 length pieces on top of that and then place the two 1/4 length pieces on top of that. I use one full sized piece of silver Real Bowler's Tape on top of that to cover the whole tiered tape unit. I typically place the entire unit towards the bottom of the thumb hole on the front side of the thumb hole where it is about 1/2" from the top edge of the hole. This unit fills in the gap of the tip end of your thumb so that you are not tempted to squeeze the ball during your swing.

    Thanks for the comment!! Yes that will certainly work however this was something shown to me and I use it primarily as a training aid to prevent squeezing with my thumb. I firmly believe you want the least amount of tension in your hand to create the cleanest and repeatable release. Any way you can work closer to that I’m all for!!!!

    About how often should tape be replaced? Thanks

  • @BkbowlingTips

    @BkbowlingTips

    2 жыл бұрын

    Thanks so much for your question! The texture on most tape can starts to wear away quickly depending on your grip pressure. The more grip pressure the quicker it will wear for most people. I tend to replace my top layer of tape after about 10-20 games. So if I use 3 pieces of tape, I replace just that top one. Somewhere around 2-4 weeks I take all tape out and replace. Of course, if I don’t like the feel I will replace all tape at that point too. Hope this helps!!!!

    People make fun of me for it. My hand was always hurting two years ago. I new it was from gripping the ball so i took a thumb slug out of the ball and stuck my thumb in. I immediately seen i had a taper at the end of my thumb so i played around until i found a way to pretty much immobilize my thumb. This is the solution i came to. It immediately improved my pain. This is the first video i have seen on the subject validating what i do. Every pro shop i walk into has at least one negative thing ro say about it. Ehhh. Works for me.

    Thanks for sharing your story and glad you found a way avoid pain! I feel everyone is unique and everyone has to kind of find their way in any sport. The “book” always gives us the optimal way for “the average person” or the prototype athlete, however you always have to make that knowledge work for you and your uniqueness! A coach should want to make “the best version of you” and I’m willing to try anything if it will help or willing to discard anything that doesn’t! Just know the journey to get better is always happening!
