8:36 is GOLDEN INFO!!!! The guy at the pro shop where I bowl told me I should turn my finger inserts, to turn the position of my hand to allow my thumb to fit better. If not it feels like I'm forcing my thumb similar to 8:53.

Never had a problem with my oval thumb until a couple months ago, how you did it is exactly how the pro shop did it, so now instead of having a blood blister on my thumb, my scores improved, except for one game, all others are above 200. A++

I’m pretty new to bowling but I noticed the pro shop I used tapered the thumbhole to fit the curve of the inside of my thumb. Pretty neat seeing that

I use the ball method as well. What's fun is when you get into a situation like mine, where due to lupus and rheumatoid arthritis, my thumb knuckle is twisting to the outside. Side to side, for me, is about 35°, but 35 ripped off a chunk of my thumb eventually (also have very little feeling, so often can't tell until I see a result). Figured out that the widest part of my thumb is not side to side on the knuckle, as it should be. It twists to the point that it's almost front to back. So, I use a 70° oval, tapered, then further tapered and beveled by hand. It works perfectly now, and I'm not locked into releasing in one specific position. The process of getting there was a long, frustrating one though, and I briefly considering foregoing the thumb altogether. 🤣

Exact thing happened to me. My thumbhole was sticking. I had the proshop enlarge it. They opened it up to the size of the grand canyon. Went to a different proshop and asked for an oval thumb. It fit perfectly.

I currently bowl without my thumb. And I would like to make the switch. What are some of things I should be asking or letting my pro shop know? Thank you for your time.

so my ball seems to hang up a bit and i think i have 1/4 reverse pitch on my thumb so should i try forword pitch ? it doesnt hurt or anything just hangs up a bit longer then id like it to?

Been to several pro shops and they never get my thumb right. I gave up and started to use golf gloves, most of my problems were solved

I have oval thumb holes drilled in all my balls. The only issue is that I get a sore spot under the nail on the top left side of my thumb I am a right-handed bowler). Any suggestions on how to eliminate this? Maybe the hole is not wide enough side to side? But it seems to fit well except for this nagging issue. Thanks - Rick Cooley

Can you put a video on how to drill oval fingers. Middle finger is 45/64 and the ring finger is 43/64

Just an observation: The spine of the prosect is 0 degrees. A 0 degree oval angle should be perpendicular to the grip line, not parallel to it. For reference, refer to the Innovative measuring ball thumb oval angle measuring tool. 0 degrees is left and right not up and down.

would an oval thumb help someone who has a real slow ball speed? i am a wheelchair bowler with a speed of 9-10ish mph.

So why don't pro shops measure my thumb that way? Everyone of them drill it based on side to side when they see my thumb is NOT round. So they open up the sides and my thumb is huge. No I have to use ALOT of tape to get my thumbhole tight
