Prince had great respect for his father, paid homage to him and respected his craftsmanship tremendously. The press will use whom ever to get a story. And some family members are the worse! It totally bothered the press and entertainment industry that he was extremely private. RIP Prince & John Nelson two musical geniuses 💜

Yes, you're right because he wouldn't do interviews when he first became a star and it drove them the media that is, crazy. They hated that he was so private, I remember that American Bandstand show where Dick Clark was trying to talk to him after he performed and he striggled to speak to Dick Clark in that interview he was so extremely shy. Dick Clark said it was his worse and most painful interview.😆 But I get a kick out of his father. I think he's funny, he would have made a nice jazz musician, his Pops, because that's all the type of music he seemed to play.

Judgmental people who cannot think for themselves. People like that typically follow televangelists and predatory-preachers who brainwash them into thinking everything outside of their “blessed” prayer cloths and anointing oil are sinful. Why? Because they want to line their pockets with your hard earned money and push their own agenda. As for the musical instruments you mentioned, the Bible is loaded with references to praising God with instruments - cymbals, bells, harps, trumpets, flutes, drums, etc. God made those instruments, not satan. Beth, stop listening to Kenneth Copeland, Benny Hinn, and Paula White and think for yourself. Develop your own relationship with God, The Great Creator, or whomever you claim to follow.

I dunno. It sounded to me like they were speaking well of themselves and their influence on Prince's work. His father, though talented didn't have his son's wherewithal to make it work on a massive scale. Influential, absolutely, but it was Prince himself that took some of their basic snippets that he observed and made his own masterpiece. In a way, it's almost as if his tremendous success was a bit of an F.U to his family for their abandonment at such a young age, but like all abused or abandoned children, they keep longing for acceptance from the very parent/s who abandoned them. Thus upon gaining fortune, which the family seemed to enjoy, it seems he made a choice. Love or hate. Doing that can be a tough decision and take some interesting soul searching. It would appear he chose love. But what do I know?

Prince's father was not the saint people thought he was, sadly. After Prince’s parents divorced when he was about 10 years old or so, his Dad moved out. His mother remarried, but Prince didn’t like his new stepfather, so at age 12, he moved in with his dad, who in that same year, kicked him out because he caught Prince in bed with a girl. Prince pleaded with his father to let him stay and his dad said “no.” Prince said told Rolling Stone in a 1985 interview “I sat crying at the phone booth for two hours. That’s the last time I cried.” Prince then moved around constantly between homes of friends and relatives and developed an on-again/off-again relationship with his dad, up until his dad’s passing in 2001. I remember him saying in an interview once that when he was a teenager he would stand outside of a McDonalds and just smell the food, because he didn't have any money to buy anything to eat. What kind of father kicks their 12-year-old son out on the street like that, without any money and no place to sleep at night?? Thankfully, he had friends whose parents would let him stay with them and feed him. Just sayin....

They repeatedly hype it up to be some sort of hit piece where you're going to learn a whole bunch of shocking personal details about Prince's life, and instead his sister talks about Prince liking his room dark and wishing he were taller. Nothing his father says is really negative ether. It's all much ado about nothing.

Sharon was his half sister. only Tyka is his full sister…. Prince wrote his first song, "Funk Machine", on his father's piano when he was seven years old. His parents divorced when he was 10. His mother remarried to Hayward Baker, with whom she had a son named Omarr; Prince had a fraught relationship with Omarr, to the extent that it caused him to repeatedly switch homes, sometimes living with his father and sometimes with his mother and stepfather.Baker took Prince to see James Brown in concert, and Prince credited Baker with improving the family's finances. After a brief period of living with his father, who bought him his first guitar, Prince moved into the basement of his neighbors, the Anderson family, after his father threw him out

Yeah, pretending you know about your half brother's love relationships (eye roll), who you weren't even raised with, and the backstabber pretending he wrote his son's most famous song is SOOOOOO respectful. The dude can't sing, and he sure didn't play the guitar, base and drums. Prince kept them all at an arm's distance for good reason. It amazes me some people on this thread can't read between the lines. Prince was raised from the age of 12 on by Bernadette Anderson, Andre Cymone's mom. His dad left when he was 7, and Prince taught himself piano on the instrument John abandoned when he deserted them. His mom remarried a man, Hayward, who did not like Prince, and was never a fan. The only person A Current Affair should have been interviewing and paying was Bernadette, who encouraged and supported his dreams, and whom Prince remained close to until her death. She's even in the lyrics of "The Sacrifice of Victor": Education got important so important to Victor A little more important than ripple and weed Bernadette's a lady and she told me (What she say?) "Whatever you do son A little discipline is what you need Is what you need, you need to sacrifice" We sacrifice. " Prince should have written a song about his own family called "The Dysfunctional Ones-They'll Hurt You Every Time."

@@reginafris6822exactly!! Very disrespectful. I know people hate mayte but it seems like she was right about that part of her book about him having some problems with his father about his music. He should be proud of prince for writing purple rain, plus didn’t Wendy came up with that one cool guitar riff in purple rain? So why didn’t he gave his son credit and as well as Wendy and everyone else in the band. It seems like he only cared to say that prince got his talent from him and maybe he did inherited that from his father but prince did teach himself how to play many instruments. What I don’t understand is how his family did that to him? I mean he treated his dad right and bought him a house and helped them out,so why do him like that and not respect his privacy. Specially with his sister saying that prince didn’t wanted her to do this interview. They abused his boundaries and took advantage of a few minutes of fame by saying yes to an interview. No wonder why he preferred to stay with Andre and his family. Seeing this interview makes me sad and curious as to how his family actually treated him or did they became envious of him once he became rich and popular. It makes me sad because his family acted so nice about prince when he died but yet a lot of weird things were said by his biological sister about how she was already prepared for him to pass away. So strange, but hey in his book he seems to have good memories towards his father. Hopefully him and his father were able to fix things before his father died.

There are certain people in the media who get really angry, malicious and jealous when certain entertainers are great at what they do. They want everyone to feel the way they do about the entertainer and hope they can destroy their career. For some reason they get obsessed with their personal relationships and throw out mean comments about them. That's really weird to me. Then the reporter uses the word "strip joint" to make it sound low down and disgusting, while Prince's Dad let it be known that it was fancy rather than raunchy. Dad seemed proud to inspire his son while Sis, who apparently didn't swim in their talent pool wanted to make a name for herself by tarnishing her Brother's. Sharon was was not raised with him. She is the child of John's first wife, not Mattie Shaw. If my brother told a TV journalist I had "a nice little body" I would never speak to him again. It is utterly creepy. John Nelson also had no part in the composition of Purple Rain, and probably little to do with either Computer Blue or Scandalous. Prince gave him writing credits so he'd have some money, and let him live in the original Purple House. I will never buy into the myth that his family was supportive of Prince; it was the other way around. Sharon admits she deliberately went against his wishes to dish on mostly inaccurate information. What a wench. Another loser sibling was Lorna, Sharon's full sister, who sued Prince for some phony copyright claim and LOST. I wish he'd written a will that disinherited that whole clan of users. Talk about dysfunctional.

@@JayBelafonte Bullshit. Prince paraded his dad's ass around in the early 80's. . Took him to award ceremonies, gave him writing credits that Prince's engineer Susan Rogers thought weren't even legit, let him hang out with his girlfriends, gave him a house to live in, honored him in several ways even up to the end of his own life (during his piano tour, he dedicated it to his dad). When Prince did an event in the midwest to promote Under the Cherry Moon that was televised on Mtv in 1986, his dad got to talk to the Mtv press at the event and his dad said "there would be no Prince without me"...technically, true, since he is his father, but he has never complimented his talent other than to remind folks of Prince's ability to see it in him. His dad hit his mother, left the family when prince was 7, after 12, basically ignored Prince as a kid unless Prince was making music. Prince lived in numerous homes growing up. When he was 17, he had to move from Andre Cymone's house to be closer to a recording studio so he lived with a friend named Paul Mitchell for 6 months. Paul said that not once did John come to visit and they all lived in Minneapolis...it's relatively small city. But when Prince got his record contract and went to record his first album in Sausilito, CA at 19, dad tailed along. He didn't owe his dad shit. Inside Edition is a damn tabloid. It's trash. If John wanted legit attention for his music, he shouldn't have done a show like that. They were being condescending. And he didn't write Purple Rain. John was an interesting musician with perfect memory but his compositions had no structure. When Wendy M was introduced to John and heard him play she was like "what the hell is this?".... Prince was like "I know its odd but watch this" and then he asked dad to play what seemed improvised again and he played it note for note. He had a weird kind of genius for memory but it was completely inaccessible and unmarketable musical rambling. As a father, John worked hard. He was a factory worker and played nights so I think he tried but he owed child support for two families. He had a rough childhood and was socially awkward but he wasn't a great father. He had 7 kids and most of them were screwed up. he could be sweet and funny but he wasn't consistent and could be super cryptic and say some fvcked up things. Also, he was unkind to his wives sometimes (even physically). Prince had a complicated relationship with him...sometimes estranged and angry at him, sometimes warm and putting him on a pedestal. JOhn was complicated like his son... so I don't hate him. Generational Trauma will do this kind of stuff. But Prince is not the villain here. His dad lived to be in 80's. His son's trauma cost him his life at 57.

Prince, Michael, Selena and countless other megastars were heavily influenced by a parent who was into music, I think that’s great……it’s like people into sports, you may not achieve your dreams but your inspiration on your babies may help them achieve it and that’s perfectly fine ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ his dad plays amazingly

Heard the term: 'The Dark Prince' but not 'The Prince of Darkness' attributed to him. This is interesting. There are many people who will tell you Prince used to go to bed around 6am typically and wake around 2pm.
