Primitive Bow Catch and Cook!) | Stone Arrow Point, Longbow, Wooden Arrow
Ойын-сауық
I use primitive tools including a longbow by Riverbend Longbows and stone tipped arrow by Jay Valente to pursue snowshoe hare in Northern Canada. I also cook the fresh hare using mostly primitive materials over an open fire near our bushcraft shelter in the forest. Snowshoe hare rely on stealth, and make for a great challenge with primitive tools. Rather than run, they prefer to sit and hide, lending themselves to the perfect quarry. An odd thing I learned from hunting snowshoe hares, is if the first one you see turns left on the flush, all the rest will turn the same way on that day.
Love the challenges! Getting ready to upload a squirrel pizza and pasta catch cook! It’s all about the creativity and the passion

That branch you were holding looks like a Balsam Fir. The red squirrel may have been eating the seeds out of a Fir cone. I'm sure that the Wild Crafty guy knows what it is.

My friend great video with great music. I think it's greek music.
A great catch and cook and Ray's channel is also a favorite of mine. I do feel honored that someone of Riverbend Longbows caliber stops by on my channel and Instagram.... Anyways, well done Sir Beardsman on another classic. Full stop. 👍
I love that background music while you're going around! Is so fitting and calming. I hope you keep using that kind of music 😊
I'd still love to see The Wooded Beardsman and Joe Robinet do a collaboration sometime!

Hello
Loved hunting rabbits with my Traditional bow and arrow. Always managed to find and shoot a few rabbits with the old recurve. Great job following it up and making a kill shot on it... Yes rabbits are lean critters meat tends to be dry and chewy if not slow cooked in stew or some sort of juices... Tried shake-n-baked one in the oven before... It was dry as a bone and as tender as leather... Something you only try once... LOL

Amazing man
Try using a arrow just sharpened or make a tip of antler ,when bunny hunting Cherokee indians used only a sharpened arrow ,no stone point often they use antler to make a blunt tip , just a bit of knowledge. The Sioux and many other native people did similar things

Came here to say the same. Doesn't really need to be sharp but needs to have good foc bias.
This is amazing last week I actually went hunting with a bow and spear
Good work to Jay V, That is solid, Those tips were never meant to last they had 1 job, and butt shot or not it did its job. I always found blunt force trauma better for bow hunting rabbits, the fact it survived to a second shot is cool enough for me.

Jayman Newell thanks man. I need to put pine pitch glue over the wrappings, I watched closely and it looks like it cut through the sinew on impact with the rabbit. Pine pitch overtop will protect it better

@@triskalion9627 that bow is a fiberglass laminated reflex deflex bow. Fiberglass was invented less than less than 90 years ago. The bow has a modern grip, and a arrowshelf. All of these innovations didn't exist till the 50s. I'd really doubt he cares about being a "purist" since he's using a modern type of traditional bow.

Oh really geniuses? Bow is not primitive? Well the camera isn't too right? Or his clothes? It's just the theme of the video and what he is trying to do, obviously it's not 100% primitive...

It's always harder to tell what the squirrel has been eating when it's all in a pile like that because they eat all kinds of cones from evergreen trees.... probably was a mix. Good show bud

I remember as a young boy I would take cottontails with my crossman 760. I would take them home after cleaning them in the field for my grandfather to fry in an old cast iron skillet. He would coat the pieces in flour, salt and pepper and lawry's season salt. Damn they were good.
I wish I knew at least half of what you know. Especially in these times.
That is done looks so damn good

Pork doesn’t have to cooked well done anymore but rabbit still does it could have a disease
Just a suggestion on the chewiness, like chicken and foul, venison, let rigamortis set in, 6-8 hours or the muscles will still be stiff. When you butcher/cook before, the flesh will cook up like a rubber ball. I found this out the hard way in the food-service field when an over anxious vendor sold us a bunch of rubber chicken we sold to restaurants. PO'd
I love the hunt and bushcraft, im new here; And your channel its amazing. Greetings from Jalisco.
