Primal Essential Movement: Squat

The squat is an essential bodyweight movement, not just for building lower body muscle and strength, but for longevity and everyday life.
With feet at or around shoulder width (whatever’s most natural) and toes either forward or pointing slightly outward, lower by pushing your butt back and out until your thighs reach at least parallel. Keep the weight on the heels and a tight, neutral spine throughout the movement.
Simplified Progression
Assisted squat (using a pole or other support object while lowering into a squat) (male and female, 50)
Movement Mastery
male and female, 50 full squats

When doing multiple freehand reps, my lower back always fatigues before my legs. Holding on to the half wall seems to eliminate that. Thanks!

I always try to do air squats all day and get as low as I can. Like my Korean Grandmother she was able to get low when she worked in the garden.

I see Mark has his feet straight forward. I've also seen other people with their feet at about 45degrees. Is there a correct placement, or does it vary from person to person?

Varies from person to person for sure. There is another YT vid about this. I use a 45 deg placement

Each position helps and touches different parts of the muscle, its often beneficial to move slightly from time to time...

Build up to it. I recommend the progression series from Convict Conditioning. Don't rush the progression, and observe the right form.
