The push-up is a great upper body pressing movement. No equipment needed to build muscle and strength!
Learn proper form and technique and how to progress from beginner to advanced.
From a plank position (straight, rigid line from feet to head), hands flat on the ground and shoulder width apart, arms extended and fingers pointed forward, lower your body until your chest (or nose) touches the ground. Keep your core and glutes tight and your spine and neck neutral.
Simplified Progression (consecutive reps needed to progress):
1. Knee pushups (male, 50; female, 30) 2. Incline pushups (male, 50; female, 25)
Movement Mastery:
male, 50 pushups; female, 20 pushups

Mark, in his mid 60s, is in better shape than most men in their mid 20s. This fact is not only a testament to Mark's knowledge and dedication to health, but it is also a testament to how the rest of the population is being poisoned by our modern food culture and modern lifestyle.

Curious if you do them every day or do the muscles involved (back, bicep, triceps, chest) need a day of recovery after doing a lot o reps.

It would depend on your fitness level, but definitely possible to do every day. Many people work out the same muscle groups on consecutive days, they just moderate the overall volume and intensity (don't blast themselves on any single day). If you're overly sore the next day after doing your workout it's probably a good indicator that you either need more recovery or need to shorten/lighten the workout.

@@marksdailyapple Thanks - sounds gpod l appreciate your points especially on intensity. I go by "listen to your body" - I'm tempted to do higher intensity stuff daily but fear burnout, over-training, injury.

I don't like doing this, it hurts my muscles, I'm not into self harm.
