President Obama On Iran Deal Opponents: “What's Your Alternative?”

Speaking with NPR's Steve Inskeep, President Obama argued that the Iran nuclear deal "cuts off all pathways for Iran getting a nuclear weapon" and offers "an entire infrastructure that's built to keep track of what Iran's doing." About the likelihood that a Republican-controlled Congress will reject the deal, the president said that such a move reflects the opposition of "a near unanimous portion of Republican representatives" to "anything I do.” But he offered that once the agreement is implemented, that opposition will “probably be forgotten.”

deedah ruhamah, And do you personally speak for this "God"? Is this "God" a Muslim or a Christian, an American or an Iranian, Democrat or Republican? I grew up in the tails-end of the Cold War, and I can remember as a kid thinking and believing that Russians wanted to kill me because they hated me. Now I'm older and I'm able to distinguish between people who are Russian and the government of Russia (former Soviet Union). I'm also making a distinction between the government of Iran and the citizens of Iran. Iran and America doesn't have to hate one another and be at war.

deedah ruhamah And this is the problem in this world. Religious nutjobs like this and their counterparts in places like Iran etc. are hell bent on proving the imaginary man in the sky they've been indoctrinated into believing is the "one true God". These are the true enemies of peace. Can't think of any major conflicts in the world that aren't rooted in religion. Maybe North Korea but even their they believe their leader is god.

History will judge this man very well. No middle east conquests like the previous administration or meddling in central America like the 80s, no south East Asian disastrous campaigns like the 60s and 70s, no scandal ridden administration either, a decent extremely capable man. We can all be very proud of him.

Dumbo lost Anbar province, which our soldiers died for. It's like losing Normandy or watching the last chopper out of south Nam. He helped knock off Kadafy, did nothing to help Mubarak, lauded the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt, did nothing for the Green Revolution in Iran, now he wants Assad gone, to be replaced by WHOM? So now we have a weak, emerging ISIS caliphate from Tunisia to Syria, ultimately to be dominated by a nuclear Iran, which is turning our gulf allies' HAIR WHITE, and now THEY want nukes, too. THANK YOO, PRESIDENT DUMDFUCK.

This may be one of the best interviews I've ever seen. Obama's critics like to frame him as an uninformed pushover, but in times like these he proves himself to be a tenacious world leader with the guts to take command. His unwavering confidence in our ability to prevent Iran from having a nuclear weapon has me convinced that this is the right decision. NPR really captures that resolved optimism that made him such an outstanding candidate in '07. Kudos to the crew who produced this.

". . .that gives me the opportunity to constructively shape the debate. . ." . Steve Inskeep knows exactly what this means, and this video is a perfect example of how it works. Here are two people who (I am convinced) do not believe in absolutes, and see their job as "moving the needle" or "shaping the debate". But where, in a world without absolutes, ultimate meaning or eternal purpose, do they want the needle moved towards or the debate "shaped" to accomplish? As postmodern progressives they both expect a larger role in a centralized global government as necessary and inevitable. They both hold utopian ideals about what such a government would mean, and they both certainly know it would mean the end of the US Constitution. They both judge the United States against their utopian progressive ideals and find it wanting-even while they are the 0.00001%-recipients of unmeasurable benefits by being citizens of the USA. I don't doubt they both have the benefit of humanity in mind as their "greater good" which justifies the use of propaganda-the more accurate term for "shaping the debate". For Obama perhaps greater racial equality and women's rights, for Inskeep perhaps LGBTQ rights, for both state-funded and implemented solutions to climate change, poverty, globalization and other progressive ideals that they use to convince themselves they are the smartest and best people doing the most good and therefore should have the power to enforce their elitist worldview on others, especially the bible-believing, gun-toting republican rubes in flyover country. From the time this video was made to today the obvious failure of trying to appease the crazy rulers of Iran with pallets of cash, the fallout from the increased polarization of the political process and the weaponizing of government institutions by the Obama administration have all vindicated conservative approaches (limiting government and allowing a free marketplace to drive innovation and provide solutions to the world's most pressing problems) work demonstrably better than using carefully crafted deception to obtain and keep power that then gets allocated to progressive cronies who then use the power of the state to stifle and punish political opposition. NPR went from the verge of being the most well-connected news outlet on the planet with total access (and usefulness) to Hillary & co., increased funding, stature and prestige among the elite in Washington DC, to "boom!", being dismissed as "fake news" by Trump. NPR has not recovered from the shock of his election, the loss of their status. While claiming over and over and over and over ( a technique for embedding ideas in listeners instead of arguing with evidence and reason) to be objective and honest, NPR spins and creatively modifies the news, carefully selects what it covers, how it covers, how long it is covered, what it ignores, and generally flies in tight formation with the elite postmodern progressive leftists, often leading and crafting the "talking points" to help "shape the narrative" that other news outlets use, uhm, over and over and over and over. They make the most effort to be seen as inclusive on the intersectional scale while remaining extremely exclusive on political views and values. NPR - Masters of Leftist Propaganda who add insult to injury by using taxpayer funding to deconstruct the system from within.

With Republican majorities in both houses of the Congress, with a Republican majority on the Supreme Court, with more Republican governors than Democratic, with more state legislatures in Republican hands than Democratic hands, the political reality seems to support my view that this President is just not very persuasive on public policy issues. He is thoughtful and articulate, so I would surmise the lack of persuasiveness relates more to substance than form. He starts from premises, and he makes arguments, that just do not persuade a majority of the people he serves. His argument in favor of the Iran agreement seems to be particularly weak.

Rico Alexander I would go back to the negotiating table, with my negotiating team including the chairmen and ranking members of the Senate and House Foreign Relations Committees, seeking an agreement negotiated much tougher and much more skeptically, and if achieved, I would submit the agreement to the Senate for treaty ratification. I would keep and make even tougher U. S. sanctions on Iran. In do these things, I would invite but not insist on the participation of our allies or the U. N. If Iran remained recalcitrant, I would quietly prepare, with Israel, air strikes to take out as much of Iran's nuclear capability as feasible, and I would repeatedly strike those facilities as they became observable through U. S. intelligence.

Houston Parks So your answer is war because no way in hell would all those nations return back to the negotiation table or even enter negotiations with just the leaders of a Congress run by a party intent on war. But thanks for your honesty in admitting that war is what you want. Glad you're not in charge and glad we have a president that will give diplomacy a chance before launching another war in the mid east.

If another country would follow their lead, the would be economically devastated and isolated as well. 2. Iran isn’t getting billions, they were just having sanctions lifted. 3. I’m confident that you or I know nothing about the inspection process. Therefore, your critique is dumb. Get off Fox News

With technology we lack focus leaving us behind the world market, competition is falling Americans. Employment opportunities, sufficiently, hospitality, preventive health and education. You are so naive speaking of Mullahs’ regime as if there is a democratic government in Iran. FYI, the US State Department has described Iranian regime as an “active state sponsor of terrorism, the protocol on dealing with terrorist is clear, “you don’t negotiate with terrorist”. Negotiation doesn’t prevent war with terrorists it just delays it since it is inherited in the building-block of terrorism characteristic not to comply with the international norm and standard of universal way of living, it would only be a matter of time to show its brutal nature. Wake up President.

The whole thing seems like a moot issue for me. Why would anyone care if Iran has a nuclear weapon anyway? The whole thing reeks of state sponsored racism. Why? Pakistan has one Russia has one China has one and America, arguably the most dangerous and aggressive country, has actually used on another country. I doubt Iranians would even stop trying to make one with ANY deal because they've invested tons of time in trying to make one. The whole "trying to make a deal with them to make them stop making a bomb" idea makes no sense logically if you really think about it. Just like America is doing it solely for the reason that Obama seems like he's keeping busy and so people will have something to talk about.

If you look at Trump’s spending, it is the worst record of all time. When Trump took office the debt was $19.9 trillion. Just four years later, it was $27.7 trillion!!!!! That is outrageous!!! We have 5000 nuclear weapons and we had far more until we scaled down our arsenal due to treaties. We used the bomb twice and none since 1945 - that was 73 years ago. Most violent country post WWII - how about China and their involvement in the Korean War? Or their involvement in the Viet Nam War? Or the Soviet Union and our friend Joey Stalin? They had something to do with the people killed in Korea and Viet Nam. What about Cambodia? They killed 6 million of their own citizens. Make a treaty with a country like Iran with leaders you cannot trust? How niave. An action by someone inexperienced with lack of wisdom and poor judgement and in the 7th year of his 8 year term. And he would not give Israel the time of day. Yes, he is cool (according to the young people), loves rubbing elbows with the celebrities and famous athletes and now that we have the first "black" president behind us though his mother was "white as milk" and his grandmother was a "typical white person", can everyone do me a favor? Elect a leader? We have not had a leader of any substance for years. Elect someone with substance and not someone with an ego that is par with a megalomaniac. Elect someone who loves this country and everyone who is entitled to be here that works hard.
