What is Iran's endgame in Syria? | UpFront

Ойын-сауық

Iranians took to the polls and overwhelmingly voted to re-elect incumbent and so-called moderate Hassan Rouhani in last week's presidential election.
But can we expect his next four years on the international stage to be any different from the previous years?
According to Seyed Hossein Mousavian, a close friend and ally of Rouhani, while the focus of the first term was on the nuclear issue, the second term will focus on regional diplomacy.
"I think in the second term he would really like to focus on the regional issues to bring peace, cooperation, engagement, diplomacy with the neighbours," says Mousavian, who also headed the Foreign Relations Committee of Iran's Supreme National Security Council.
"The problem is whether Saudi Arabia would be ready … [they] now prefer to ally with Israel rather than Iran, to fight Iran."
In this UpFront special, Mehdi Hasan challenges Iranian policymaker and former diplomat Hossein Mousavian to explain Iran's policies in the region and what some see as the double standards with regards to Yemen and Bahrain.

Well compared to the US elections pretty ok. Compared to Saudi, Qatar, UAE.... ooh wait they do not have elections.... We all know why Iran have the system they have... US coup's and interference. We all know the UN allegations are fake, who kills civilians... not the Syrian army we do know what is propaganda and what is not. It is very simple the legitimate government of Syria is Assad, Russia is allowed to be there and so is Russia all others are invaders. Quite funny claiming Iran are hypocrites... what about the US and the UK. *WORST PROPAGANDA EVER* Quoting human rights watch etc. without proof one simple example... The US had RT to register as foreign agents, not a peep. Russia retaliated and did the same and Amnesty and human rights watch went ballistic not mentioning that the US did the same and Russia just retaliated. The NGO's have become very political, unfortunately

Mehdi is on Isis side I am not s fan of asad but from what I see he is the most secular man in the country and he is wrong on Saudis anyway he is getting paid from the other side so of course he will take their side

If you throw Asad out from the Syrian, what will happen to that country? It will become chaotic like Libya. We know only half of the true from the media. If America did not get involved, many Syrian people still have their homes. I think American reasons to be thrown Asad is double standard. Saudi has the same dictatorship, why American did not care about it. It is about money and natural resources.

This guy has a point Nato went to Lybia to save innocent people been killed by their government and left people killing each other and IS get involved in it cause Lybia become a lawless country, the thing is what happens with the oil is still flowing and who's in charge of it? who's buying it or taking it free?

What kind of interview is this. Mehdi even didn't let the guest talk !!!!!! He should be more respectful. Hey Mehdi you get it wrong brother, it not about to force your perception to win your interview ! 👎

Aljazeera wants to stay relevant in the west mehdi has to repeat lies and show hostility to iranians to further that goal. Notice mehdi is desperately trying to block mosavian from answering! It's one thing to be critical of iran but this "interview" was way beyond that. Simply put mehdi has to trade his virtue to keep his job.

lol I love how Seyed Hossein Mousavian says "Mehdi" like Mehdi is his nephew and he is trying to convince him to come play football. I think what Mehdi is doing is good, he has good points but he needs to learn how to hold a respectable conversation without being rude.
