Thank you, President Kagame, for banning plastic bags in your country! I am an assistant teacher for 4 year-olds in Georgia, USA. In a recent training class, we had a session on how to teach children the importance of limiting the use of plastic items. The instructor mentioned that only California has banned plastic bags. I was able to share with the class that Rwanda is also a leader in reducing plastic use as they banned plastic bags for the entire country. Hopefully, the US will learn from Rwanda and extend the plastic bag ban to all other US states and territories. Best Wishes to all Rwandans! Sarah

Maybe, as PK mentioned, the USA has" too much democracy" in the sense that due to states' rights it might not be possible for the USA to ban plastic bags nationally. That (and Americans' current outrage at having to wear masks) makes a case for the notion of 'too much democracy", especially when the proposed diktats/edicts/laws/regulations are for the greater good. I'd love to have or hear a discussion on this.

President Kagame is a very pragmatic leader. He obviously does not like talking too much, he prefers implementing development programs. He is like a surgeon, and knows that with good preparation, he can achieve what the people are waiting for. He created order and discipline in his administration, eradicated wide spread corruption and nepotism. Kagame has become a manual book for sustainable development in Africa and it our hope that he would continue his mission and leave the people to decide when he should retire. He was very clear on the question of his eventual retirement: he is counting on the strong and solid institutions to guarantee the future of Rwanda. Its very encouraging Mr President.

I have a feeling we should kind of keep few thing's private. I like the strategic approach of his Excellency Hon. President Paul Kagame of the great nation of Rwanda. I think it is time for Afrika to Unite and revive the AU to actually operate on its own for its people. Let's share ideas, let's create a powerful Afrika, let's build our Economy, let's trade amongst ourselves, what you don't have I have, so I teach you how to plant and you teach me how to fish. We can't keep allowing this lost generations brewing century after century... Afrika it is today, now to stand together.

Up until now, if the rest of the world could name 10 african leaders, 1 would be Madiba, the other 9 would be names of dictators, war lords, corruption kings and murderers. Madiba didnt end Apartheid by keeping his plans to himself but talk about what was going on in S. Africa at that time. Apartheid would not have ended if the rest of the world had not participated to end it. The others the rest of the world got to know by their sheer brutality and greed. They were always secretive and refused to engage the outside world and their own people. Kagame had not been invited to speak so that they can learn his plans. They are so far ahead that they can zoom in from space and read the time on your watch. They keep asking him for his views and thoughts because Kagame has been a very rare African leader who has managed to steer an african nation down the path of progress in an impressively short period of time. Inviting him to share his ideas at their universities and requesting him to give his opinion and ideas at world leaders forums and meetings shows they respect him. Thats something that will never be accorded to a person like Mugabe.

@@theallseeingeye9388 Do you know how African countries were created? They were made to be mismanaged politically financially etc. So that the whole continent is under the claws of colonial masters forever. The shocking part from colonial masters point of view came when they realized that, regardless of what they thought will happen to this great continent, those African peoples are managing to get back together with one accord and one by one getting back their lands ending with South Africa in 1994. Now, without these presidents you call criminals, Madina was not going to be known as a great leader behind prison bars. Do you know that without African strong mind, India was not going to be free from colonial Rule?

@@glorytoyahzulu6229 Africa and Africans who were colonised share a common history with the rest of the world that went through the same. I am not an expert on local african history but if I am to guess, different tribes and different customs speaking different dialects were all separated or clumped together as new nations when the colonial forces left the continent? These new nations proceeded to fight their neighbours due to borders and resources or fight among themselves as the new nations could not unite the different ethnicity due to the absence of a national common identity. And then there was the corruption. Usually by strong populist leaders who come to power by promising to be a champion of his people. The leadership will flame the population of the make believe enemy either within the borders or from outside its borders. While the people are busy chasing and fighting these enemies the leaders are busy emptying the wealth of the nation. If Africas post world war 2 history is along these lines or close to it, than all I can say is welcome to the rest of the world. India is not my home country nor do i identify with indians from iIndia as brothers. But I can say for sure India as a country made out of 150 different kingdoms and 300 different languages today are not very appreciative of the man who came from South Africa and played a part Indias independence. He is an icon of the non violence movement in the west. But he is increasingly hated in India as the man responsible for allowing india to be broken into east and west pakistan. Which than like any artificial countries created at that time, east and west Pakistan fought each other because they were of different ethnicity. Which than India interfered and Bangladesh was born. There were many other indian nationalist who did not want to talk terms with the colonizers. They had only goal in mind, which is get them out of their lands. And they absolutely disagreed with the idea of dividing India into two countries, one for muslims and one for hindus. So who was right who was wrong? I cant say. What I know for sure is we can continue to waste the future by being suspicious and combative against each other and our neighbours and keep blaming the western colonizers for all our problems. Or engage everyone and build consensus and forge forwards. This is what I believe makes Kagame great. He once told his men to stop showing him anymore mass graves of his people. He said he was afraid seeing anymore will affect him. He said he was afraid seeing anymore will plant the idea of seeking revenge and affect his ability and to make the right decisions. Not many in the world today can think that far. Definitely not a man who had to fight to stay alive during that time. Most of us would have wanted someone to pay for the experience we went through. I hope his people dont waste it on being suspicious of others and still living under the unconscious believe of the Whiteman burden.

@@theallseeingeye9388 The world has been made very complicated due to all these conquered and conquest going on. What I know for sure is what slave raiders and traders did to the people they captured was to make sure they were put in the place they couldn't communicate as they were shipped to Americans. For those who were left behind were left in their own habitations so they could mourn their losses together. Yes you are right that blaming will not bring development to our Africa. But for your information, we are not blaming but talking about it. Through talking we heal Ourselves and life goes on. They divided Africa to create conflict between peoples. Through war they keep getting money from selling their weapons. Africa is huge with more than 2000 different languages. If Bantu peoples loved blood shed, this continent was going to be a complete destruction. Fortunately we are peace loving people. Our fathers united with one accord in peace, to kick out colonial masters. I really think we deserve to part ourselves on the shoulder for keeping so many different people together in peace. Britain ruled India for 200 years! Before colonial British came the country was doing very well. India was already into manufacturing and export. They lived in peace as brothers between Hindus and Muslims Indians. They were loving and respected one another. They were self sufficient and flourished. But in, 1947 British divided India into two countries regardless of protest by leaders including Mahatma Gandhi he never agreed to divide the country. These are his own words : " Hindus and Muslims are sons of the soil of India, they were sons of the same soil. They are brothers who therefore must strive to keep India free and united " Muslim of the Fernando school of thoughts also criticize the idea of Pakistan as being the conspiracy of the colonial government to prevent the emergency of a strong united India. They did not listen because what they wanted was to create that rift between same people so that they keep fighting. War will feed them through the sale of weapons. Real devils. If you look at India today, people are still fighting! Many important people in India were opposing to divide India, British went ahead to divide India anyway! So let us all cry to The Almighty God to save us! It's a wicked world we live in

@@glorytoyahzulu6229 the world went through its most "peaceful" phase the last 70 years after the second world war. The second world war was the peak of the effects of colonialism. It was said that the war was between two ideologies. Democracy and Communism. It really was about two ethnic white race. One was the anglo saxons who at that time had an empire stretching the whole world where it was said the sun never sat on the empire. The second were the Germanic people who after finding themselves without colonies, had decided they were entitled to one too. This came from their ideas of superiority over the others around them namely the saxons and the slavs. So they started annexing and colonizing other European countries. And that followed by murder and genocide of all whom were not blond haired blue eyed. Long story short that war was what made the non whites realise that the masters were not all that powerful and they too wanted to be masters of their own fate. Long story short, despite the sporadic violence and war here and there, the world at large was at peace this 70 years. Im afraid that period is about to come to an end. The world over we see an increase in the voices of intolerance, bigotry, hate and ignorance while the voices of moderation and tolerance is being shouted out down. We are increasingly withdrawing from engaging the world in suspicion and fear. And this is not going to help us with what's coming in the very near future. The challenges that are coming in the near future where the world is going to see famine, hunger, shortages of fresh drinking water and aerable land coupled with natural disasters like flooding of coastal areas is going to push us into conflict. We disengaging from the rest of the world now will enable the intolerant among us to spill the blood of innocent and children again, just to appease the mad demon thwt exista inside all of us. Some among us just cannot control that demon called hate.

It's such a pleasure and great inspiration listening to His excellency P.K. An amazingly calm, humble and eloquent speaker. All his responses to questions asked are rational and clear. Amazing visionary leadership. I am fascinated by his responses to the notion of democracy. Truth be told anyone who wants to discredit him is a person with a hidden agenda of wanting to perpetuate confusion and divert a progressive trajectory he has laid out for his country. Rwanda deserves to be declared a model good enough to replicate in Africa first nd beyond for the development of mankind. Well done Me. President. May you be blessed with a long life to continue with the great work you are doing!!!

I was so proud of Kagame, the way he speaks and answer the Harvard students questions he was so eloquent and knowledgeable. I don't think a Nigerian President would be able to give a meaningful answers to the questions asked they way Kagame did, up up to Kagame 🙌🙌🙌👏👏

Why do some countries feel the need to give advice to others? As if their country don't need better advice than the other. They always have to put their nose to things they have no business being in.

President Kagame is a Iiving legend in African leadership. He say he does his part and everybody else does their part and that is the only panacea to succeed. He is fervent, effectual, composed, assertive, determined, principled, assuring, objective and a man of varying attributes. Surely Africa should rise to the occasion with leaders like him.
