We feel you on masking everything off! It was a bugger because as soon as we thought we were done, there was something that we missed. You are definitely super thorough with getting everything masked! Even though it's a PITA, it makes spraying soooooOOOooo much easier! For covering the roof, we ended up taping the under edge of the eves with a plastic drop cloth then pulling it up and over, kind of like a hair net so that we could spray up under the eves. Our tape wouldn't stick to the Tropicool either, so under the eves made it work! Keep on keeping on! Building a Skoolie is definitely hard work but it'll be worth it when you're cruising down the road and finding magical places to set up camp! We believe in you! - Brian + Erin

If I could post pics I would. I painted my truck myself turned out really good. One main thing I learned is as many things you can take off and get paint under where it goes the better it will turn out. And then it will more than likely not end up chipping and flaking in them areas. Any edges that still has panel that continues on after the paint stops like just taping off lights or handles are more likely to chip and stuff in the future. Prep is everything. My well take an extra day and take as much stuff off as you can in that day b4 you paint so it will last that much longer. And save you from having to go back over it in a year or 2 and last 5 to 10 years.

Hey Chase! That is so awesome that you painted your own truck, I bet it looks great! I took off as many things as I possibly could and can still take off a few more. I am trying really hard to prep the best I can, weather and my arms are working against me but I will do this!! thank you so much for all of your tips! If you want you can sent pics through instagram or email! We love seeing peoples projects! @gus.gps mapgps17@gmail.com

small trick i learned on the job , get some parachute cord and push that between the window rubber and the sheetmetal , it will lift the rubber off the metal and makes it eazier to cut the paint in with the paintbrush , after painting and drying pull the cord out and usually the rubber settles down again and will cover over the paintborder hope the paintgun works , the airless painsystem youre probably be renting , i seen a LOT of busses on youtube where the thing didnt work at all starts sputtering leaks or quits halfway intoo the job with an airpowered paintgun outside where theres no airflow like in a paintbooth theres a big cloud floating around the part youre painting covering stuff you dont want paint on you allso waste a lot of paint and need to work fast you might want to try using a thinner resistent foam or microfiber rollers and good round paintbrushes and paint the bus in sections using metal sheet border lines as a cut line , say the width of two windows at a time it whont burn you out on the job as mush , you have a little more time to do a nice job spreading the paint evenly . it saves you a lot of time and materials cleaning and paint waisted if there isnt dust and leaves blowing about it might give you better coverage and cost you less as you dont pay rent on the equipment used and should it suddenly start to rain it only ruins a part of the paintjob (trust me i seen non solvent paint run off like non waterproof mascara on a crying girl in the rain ), besides that if would take 4 people about a full day and half the night to paint the bus in one go , you do not want to paint a bus in one go unless its a van or you have about 10 people working on it at the same time seen people use farm and implement paint from tractor supply , its cheap (about 44 dollar per gallon) flows nicely and has good resistance against scratching only bad part is its limited color pallet (john deere green , moline off white , kubota orange , catterpillar yellow , ford blue . international red etc) think those paints are still solvent based though (thinner or white spirit )

The emblems will come off fairly easily if you use a braided fishing line and work it back and forth in a sawing motion on the back side of the emblems (between the bus’ body and the emblem). Good work BTW

Self etching primer is for preparing bare steel, aluminum and fiberglass for paint. It needs to be coated with primer before a color top coat is applied or the top coat may not stick to it. I hope yours works out because its a lot of work you have done.
