Prepare for Hard Times: Winter Water Resupply

Ойын-сауық

In this video I make a run to try to supplement my snow melting with some fresh liquid water. Unfortunately, not everything goes according to plan but that's how we learn. Winter just brings its own sets of difficulties!

The day the lights never come back on is getting closer all the time. I'm of the opinion that everyone should ready their mind to the very real and probably inevitable prospect they may have to take something from someone at some point.. No one has everything, supplies will run out and shyyt does happen. This is why humanity has the word " survival". Real survival is dirty business and should never be confused with being prepared. They are not the same. You do what you have to do to survive. One mans attacking marauder can simply be another man who hit a wall and shyyt went wrong. EG: I don't know anyone who would sit there and watch a family member die from lack of meds or other medical supplies because of some misplaced sense of morality or imaginary 'survival code' of conduct. When barter and trade or ppl simply refusing to lend a helping hand fails, and it will, you do what you have to do. If my wife or kids caught some funk and were fading fast and I knew some farmhouse located 3 farm fields over had what I needed, and every civilized avenue failed to get what I needed from them the right way- Guess what is gonna happen? Anyone who claims differently is a liar or are living in a Discovery Channel dream land. I'm not talking about plundering for the sake of plundering but in that situation does it really matter to the guy who is getting plundered what the label of the plunderer is, or why its happening?

100% agree. We need to be of the mind that people will get desperate, perhaps even us, and need to prepare to deal with that while making yourself a hard target. Great comment my friend and I will be doing a video solely dedicated to what my group has dubbed "werewolves" very soon. Your channel has been a wealth of knowledge for me!

Showing the “fails” is an extremely important lesson for us. Nothing worse than a false sense of security or belief in a potentially flawed system that works poorly or not at all when you need it most. Glad you are out there making these videos!

A Military Specification (tough as nails) 5 gallon Specter jug is more cost effective. Put it on a frame pack from a sports store near you. A Vario or something similar is adequate if the water source will be hard to reach, like a Talus slope. A powered pump of some sort is optional, and may be too loud. 🎶Meet me down by the railroad track, track. 🎶

I was in a blizzard not too long ago,. I had my camelback on. I was walking for about 5 minutes through waist high snow and got a little thirsty, tried to take a sip...shit was frozen solid. So I continued my 3-mile journey with periodic handfuls of snow. What I learned: having drinkable water in the winter that isn't frozen solid is a necessity. Dehydration in the cold is NO JOKE, be prepared!

I highly recommend using the camelbak and a hard bottle of some sort. Hard bottles are alot tougher to kill especially in winter. Maybe even ditching bladder systems all together in winter.

My whole property is surrounded by a decent sized river it’s probably 50 feet wide and 7 feet deep in the deep ends and it’s got lots of fish in it and no one really lives by me I have 2 neighbors about 200 yards away and that’s really it the river is really close to my house. In the summer time a decent amount of people do come to go fishing and swimming but in a grid down situation I don’t think they will come by my area because they don’t live around here but I am ready to defend my home and my family. very good video and information

There's a reason that wars were historically halted during the winter. Simply surviving the elements is it's own battle.

My cousin just went out in -7 (-24 wind chill) and his nods frosted over from his breath. He noted to bring a wipe, or something, to try and clean them. It would be a constant cleaning as well. Also, having a canteen tucked between yourself and your jacket will keep your water from freezing while out and about.

@EricGPP It will, and your eyes lids with start to develop ice from the condensation of your breath so wearing goggles is a good idea as well in those temperatures. I don't know how cold it gets for you but here it's been in the negatives for a week now.

dirty water bags are meant to be dunked in water. you don't want to linger at a source. pumps are typically for filtering.
