Minuteman Community Response: All Rucked Up

Ойын-сауық

Part 3 of my community response kit, finally getting into the ruck sack! Unfortunately, I ran out of time for the logistics and feasibility segment so in the future I hope to get into that as well. There's a lot that goes into this and its far less flashy and fun than people imagine.

I actually carry a lot of the same tools just in my camelback. I have actually used my saw/hatchet several times when hiking around to clear fallen trees off the trail for others

Same. The Camelbak day packs are pretty awesome as standalone packs for running around the forest. Mine goes everywhere with me

Tools mentioned are good. In addition to the previously mentioned, I am thinking bolt cutters, pry bar, sillcock key, and even a hack saw.

With a solid handled shovel, you can use the edge as a hatchet. I mean you _are_ keeping the edges of your shovel clean and sharp, right? *Highly recommend* an alternate non-filter water solution. Look into treatment tabs, or iodine solutions as these are lightweight, won't break, clog, or freeze, and they work passively while on the move. You've got multiple edged tools, weapons, and fire starters but a single "fast" water source. Boiling is great if you can stop & ignite a heat source, but fuel may be difficult to find or use.

All good points! Yep actually its a surplus shovel it came sharpened, I like to keep it maintained. I need a solid stock on water purification drops, I have some but enough for prolonged years

@@EricGPP check out PolarPure - they're iodine crystals in a small bottle. Fill with water to make a saturated solution and use capfuls to treat quarts. Takes 30-60m depending on temperature. Treats 2000 liters.

Good kit. I like that you go with everyday bic lighters as a primary fire source - keeping it real not playing bushcraft ehen not neccesary. More observation tools? Binos? You need to do minimize casualties so you need some intel. Of course if you have at least one scope on rifle that will do the trick without adding weight. I recommend cutting down even further on tools. You are walking as a group so even the folding saw amd camp axe can be shared and are pursuiting so speed is key and each gram counts. As for batteries - once again if it's mission critical you need to power it. Even if it comes to having 1lb battery pack on the back of your head like in old school gen 1 tanker gogles it's still worth it
