Diamond's DA40 Star is a popular entry-level and midspeed cruiser, but it lacks air conditioning and other options. Fort Lauderdale's Premier Aircraft added a rich options list to the airplane, and in this report, Aviation Consumer's Paul Bertorelli took a trial flight.

    Funny this vid was in my suggestions, flying a DA40 tomorrow right there from KFXE from one of the flight schools im checked out in.l

    Screw the AC. Just more weight, and more potential problem. This is a GREAT plane. The safest out of the Cessna, Piper, and Cirrus. Screw the fancy leather. I would just get the extra tank, extra lights, synthetic vision, more robust landing gear. And it is the GOAT.

    Give the DA-40 a retractable gear option. You could make it a manual system like the Mooney Super 21 was/is. :)

    30k for Air-Conditioning is absolutely ridiculous!!! Other than that, nice A/C:)

    I don't like the way the a/c compressor is mounted. It could be mounted using a shaft to install the compressor in the back of the engine. The evaporator looks to me is very efficient, and think has a hose to drain the water out the cabin. GREAT !!!

    wow! 151kts true at 5500? wow the one i fly gets like 136 true at 9000 full MP.. not an XLS though... wow the XLS is nice...

    Wow that airspeed indicator was indicating a very low airspeed. They must have been doing a power off stall demo. Good catch Rodrigo.

    Unfortunately most LSA`s and GA aircraft today are just way too expensive to boost the GA community and pilots.Too high mark ups and FAA`s BS rules and regulations that prevent affordability.

    $ 470,000 Really? No wonder GA is dying a slow death. Nobody with a normal income can afford to buy a new airplane anymore. Even if you can cough up the mortgage for one of those the property tax will kill you, let alone trying to find hangar space.

    Thats a brand new aircraft. Most people dont buy new. Its cheaper and just as good to buy used. No one has ever said that flying is cheap. What this planes lets down in initial cost makes up in being extremely economical.

    It is one of the down falls of GA for sure. Not just Diamond, so many manufactures including avionics costs are high. Their marketing the wrong people. Very few pilots are on top cash levels. Back in the day Piper and Cessna knew how to market to middle income, thus so many sold.

    Rossi R 420K for brand new DA40 but used is usually around 220K, the diamond is more expensive in terms of initial purchasing but costs less for fuel as it usually burns about 10 an hour, is some of the safest aircraft, and goes higher,farther,faster, as well as more commonly very easily to pick ones up with the G1000 which in my experience is a complete godsend whether you're operating in busy controlled airspace or just flying circuits in an uncontrolled airport.

    MetaView7 it's an avgas engine. It's too expensive to run. Jet A is fat cheaper. Enough to be a selling point

    Yes you can deduct 30k from a 200k income and end up paying the same taxes on 170k.I mean really who comes up with these Tax deduction jargons.Tax deduction is not a tax payment reduction.If you make 400k a year and you deduct 100k then it would make sense or a savings of 20-25k in taxes.Anyway the Obama admin is changing that soon as well.
