Oh that feeling when the instructor jumps out of the plane and gives you the thumbs up. Belated congratulations.
My first solo was in a DA40. I can still remember the feeling of weight shift not having my instructor in the seat next to me. Diamond made one of the best low wing aircraft for general aviation ever. I miss flying them. CONGRATS on your tails brother.
Well done. Congrats. I remember that feeling when I soloed April 1969.

Well done. My first solo at KISW in central WI, March, 1969, Cessna 150 N50156 which is still flying somewhere in Ohio. Still have the shirt with the tail missing... Be happy to trade planes with you!

Awesome...still remember my first solo in a C-150, 1981. I had no idea that was the plan for the day! We did several take-offs/landings then pulled up to ramp (I was wondering why the lesson was cut short!)...then my instructor said, take Er up! My Initial thought was a slight bit of fear but at the same time, excitement! I remember thinking, ‘I am either going to fly this thing or die trying!’ Needless to say all went well. Congratulations!

Exactly the same situation for me Joe, 1972 in a C-150. Hope you are still flying.
I remember my first solo. You never forget the first time. I did the solo in a DA20. Flying: the most challenging but also the most exciting sport in the world.

flying is nice.....but landing is the real fun.... :)
Awesome! Great flying! Too bad no cutting off the back of your shirt. Such an awesome tradition. The back of the shirt I was wearing the day of my solo, still pinned up at RBW Airport in S.C. (20-years now). After it is cut off, you take a marker, put N# on it, aircraft make/model, date of solo, and your CFI/CFII signs it, before proudly being put on display. Happy/Safe Flying!
This brought back so many memories. I remember my solo, my instructor specifically told me to take the RIGHT exit out of the rwy to pick him up otherwise he'd have to walk all the way around 3 runways back to the hangar.
Congratulations on your first solo! well flown. Love the DA40.
Good job on the solo but your instructor deserves a slap on the wrist for getting out with the engine running and jumping of the front of the wing like that.

Thanks. It’s the most comfortable I’ve ever been still to this day. The Diamond is really easy to fly.
Awesome! Cant wait for my first solo!
oh man this is so inspiring I want to be a pilot when i grow up and I love this plane I flew once for about 8-10 minutes, it was really fun, and I really want to do it again also that plane is beautiful and amazing camera hope you make more vids with this plane these are very relaxing
I love this plane. I don't even fly, but its my dream plane. Its also safer than the Cessna172, safer than the Piper Cherokee, and even safer than the Cirrus that has the parachute. Better safety record than all of the most common little planes. To me, the safety is one reason I love it, bu i love it because it looks close to a bird. The Cessna172 looks like a flying car. The Piper is ugly, loos like a flying suv. The Cirrus also looks like a car with wheels. To me, the Diamond DA40 looks like an eagle. Like what a plane should look like. Its almost poetic. Beautiful curved lines. Wing looks like what a wing should look like in the air. Some say that its more expensive than the others. But in safety, fuel, and design/looks, to me it is the GOAT out of the 4 most popular small planes. I f i was rich, i would get 2. One to fly. The other just to store environmentally sealed in a hanger, in case they stopped making them.
Nices pictures man, first flight is always big moment, i'm French man and pilot of glider. thx for video.....
I'm an old CFI with over 8K hours of instruction given. From my perspective you get an A+. What I REALLY liked was your focus was not glued on the panel, you were scanning outside. Congratulations. (Do they still cut your shirt tail off after your first solo?)

A very alarming question from the beginning of the video with the safety standards and as I fly on a DA40-TDI, how did you open the canopy and let a person out of the aircraft while the engine is running?!
@TheCapTan
6 жыл бұрын
raphael traboulsi Wasn’t a safety concern. I was there to ensure the plane didn’t move. I think hand starting planes is much more of a safety issue.
@gordsh1
6 жыл бұрын
I did the same thing on my solo in a DA40, the only difference is that my instructor climbed over the wing towards the rear of the aircraft instead of the front. Like TheCapTan, I put the parking brakes on and held the canopy.
@raphaeltraboulsi7732
6 жыл бұрын
Yeah possible but as for safety regulations in the EASA UK CAA is different I guess, because we have to turn off the engine to let anyone near the aircraft.

@@TheCapTan Congrats again on entering the club, but no.. it's not safe to exit to the front of the wing with a running engine. I promise if you see the accident, you will never ever forget it. It takes literally 30 seconds to shut-down and start up again.
What kind of go pro mount do you use? Also, what kind of wiring do you have set up to hear the audio?
@TheCapTan
5 жыл бұрын
For this flight I used the standard go pro suction mount. I use ram mounts now. Mini usb to headset adapter for go pro hero 4 but I use the hero 7 now.
WOW!! It has a joystick.
You forgot your crosswind correction on your rollout. But I'm sure you know that by now.
Nice job! But your instructor jumping off the leading edge with the running engine is pretty dangerous. Imagine what would happen if he tripped

@thecaptan how long was the complete process from ground school to your first solo flight??

I started in 2014 and had about 8 hours then had to stop. I resumed in 2017 in the diamond and almost finished in about 6 months until the school closed. I ending up finishing in 2019 having to find a new cfi.

Depends on how often you fly and when your instructor feels your ready.
I hate it when people get out of the airplane and go in front of the wing towards the prop, Ive heard horror stories of people walking right into the prop
