Potter OSYSU-1 Installation on OS&Y Fire Sprinkler Valve
Ғылым және технология
Installing a Potter OSYSU-1 supervisory switch on a 6" OS&Y type fire sprinkler valve. Video covers steps from initially filing a groove in the valve stem to wiring the junction box. I added a modular plug to allow this demonstration setup to be easily moved and reconnected.
The valve was manufactured in 1977 by the Traverse City Iron Works.

The termination of fdas Sir and temper is NO or NC... And the flow switch also... NO or NC
Just Curious why you are monitoring both N.O. and N.C.?

I only use the N.O. wiring currently, the N.C. connection is terminated at the junction box. Since this is just for demonstration, I pulled all three conductors so that I could change the contact configuration in the future without having to rewire anything at the supervisory switch.
I could not tell if the rod is in the center position of the setting of the valve or not. You do know there is a center position right? If the switch is off the valve the first position is say closed, then if you move the rod farther, the switch is open, move ever farther and the switch closes again. Mounted on the valve, put it in the center position, open contacts. Also per code, the valve must actuate the switch within 2.5 wheel revolutions.

Correct, the switch rests in the center position while the valve is open. The rod in this model is spring loaded to pull it back to the closed position if the supervisory switch is removed, for example in a scenario where tampering s occurring. This particular installation trips in around 1.5 - 2 revolutions of the wheel.

Thats right, 2, not 2.5 as I stated. That is an older switch. The new potter switches have a micro adjust also. Most techs do not realize the center position, and I find them in the first position all the time. And I also notice that the little spinner on the rod missing a lot too. That's to provide a bearing surface to ride on, so it does not drag the rod I guess. Anyhoo......nice demo, thanks.
Where did you get the valve
