    Hi, need some clarification. Does it mean heat element is used as a detection system for wet/dry system whereas Independent means of detection (sensor) is used for deluge/preaction ? And why there is difference between closed and opened sprinklers ? Appreciate your help 😊

  • @jjd445

    @jjd445

    There are no electronic heat detection devices on a wet or dry system. These two are activated by the link of a sprinkler fusing and opening. An open head is one with a deflector but no fusible link stopping water from flowing through it. A closed one has this link, which breaks upon reaching a certain temperature.

    In dry type sprinkler,If air enter first it leads to increase the fire..then why we want to use these types of sprinkler

  • @rumildaolik4905

    good explanation. I still have some confusion with dry pipes system and preaction system. Dry pipe system contains compressed air. The air is released then water starts flowing once the system is triggered. With preaction system the pipe is also filled with air, then water comes into the pipe when the system is triggered. So i do not see the difference. what is the main difference?

  • @shubhamjat9001

    The main difference is that ,deluge system is usually for multiple hazards.

    Pre action needs an electronic signal from panel to activate the solenoid and a loss of air for it to trip depending if it is a single action or double action (interlock) system. And a dry system w air just needs a loss of air pressure to trip.

    What about a flow switch on a wet system?? That will give you a indication of flow

  • @alisterrebelo9013

    @alisterrebelo9013

    On a wet system, depending on the water supply source, a flow switch is not a good solution. For example, on a town's main supplied wet sprinkler system, water surges on the supply side can cause the clapper to open and a flow to be detected by the flow switch and therefore call the fire brigade and an expensive bill for a spurious alarm call out. In this case, a fall-in-pressure switch is more reliable as the only time that will operate is if the sprinkler bulb has opened. Granted, someone could knock the sprinkler bulb (accidental or malicious) and set of the pressure switch, this same argument could be applied to a flow switch too. Hope this helps.

    For one thing you are talking about a wet alsrm value that yes they can bounce in a water surge that why you have a excess water pump.on the system side to pump the pressure up an extra 40 psi . But this is old school way this system is hardle ever use now days. The system am talking about is a riserr manifold (look this up) ware the flow switch has a test and drain the flow can be set up with up to a 60 second delay for water hammer. Up in Canada this is pretty much what we use on wet systems res com and industrial

    @@ronwikeheiser6706 G'day from an Australian sprinkler system designer (everything in the field to consulting) I do happen to know what you're describing as what we call a 'sprinkler control assembly' used as you've said in residential or office buildings for floor by floor control on a common sprinkler (or combined sprinkler/hydrant) riser. Its not the case that these valves are old school as such. The valves shown are THE way to setup sprinkler assemblies in warehouses, manufacturing, and other high hazard occupancies which is a large proportion of facilities that FM Global insures (that's why they are talking about it). You probably know this, for another, flow switches like the Potter PS120 are unreliable, as the paddle get stuck, they leak, and fiddly to adjust and set. Anyways, not here to start an argument, have a good day sir!

    Oh yes l do no what you are talking about as l am a consultant contractor and installer as well for 33yrs . Yes Australia does have a very high standard. As many places have higher standards depending on the insurance company that is over and above here in Canada alam values are just not used here for many reason's as are climate is not easy on things thats all . Things have improved alot over my 33yrs in the business. In no way l am arguing even the piping systems coming out so much has changed from when l was in my early 20s

    Pressure switch on wet system. Why?

  • @jjd445

    @jjd445

    3 жыл бұрын

    The pressure switch can be used in place of a flow detector. Flow is detected based on a change in pressure from the static (non flowing) pressure to residual (flowing) pressure.
