Thanks so much for this video. I have a ticket next week to replace 13 bg-10s with the 12LX. I've been racking my brain trying to figure out how a pull could be defective heh. Makes total sense.
Ive encountered this at my school before and caught it on video, when I pulled a BG-10 for a fire drill the alarms didn’t activate, so I had to hold down the pull station until the button came free which took like 10 seconds and then the alarms activated. Im glad someone finally made a video about this issue

Just went to your channel and watched the fire drill video where you show this happening - very interesting to see it in the field!

@@kcin556 Yeah its kind of concerning considering that pull station is the one most likely to be pulled due to it being at the main entrance, I hope the seals in most of them get replaced next time the system gets inspected
Whenever I am doing an inspection and I come across these, I usually replace at least 3 per inspection

Who decides if your supposed to replace the whole thing
I grew up with BG-10's all over my school. My elementary school had BG-10's everywhere with Wheelock 7002T's. My high school had BG-10's with System Sensor mass horn/strobes. I like the BG-12's but I really like the way that BG-10's look.

Same! I love the way they look, they’re just so cool!
Very interesting. A well put together video!
My dad’s gym once had a bunch of BG-10’s. Now, only one remains as the rest has been replaced with some BG-12’s, a 270-SPO’s, an MS-151, and an RMS-1T.
In a Fire what do you do if the Fire alarm does not work? Do you try pushing the lever up and try again?
Awesome I just got one for my system
The options were replace the seal or replace the pull station with a BG-12.
I'm surprised the recall was issued at least 13 years after production stopped (unless it took that long for the problem to be noticed). Also don't know why the site you linked says "from 1992 through 2010", given I'm pretty sure production of the BG-10 ceased in 2000. Why does the BG-10 even need a seal around the switch, shouldn't the switch itself be already sealed fairly well? Honeywell could have also solved the housing fracture problem by simply discontinuing the hex-screw version. Are there versions with seals that _don't_ disintegrate over time? (even though all rubber deteriorates with time last time I checked)

The seal protects the switch from weather if its being installed outdoors. But seriously why would the seal be nessesary.

@@That_2_guy2T Exactly: heck shouldn't the BG-10 be decidedly _not_ an outdoor manual station to begin with given it's at least 50% plastic? (which is why most outdoor pull stations are largely metal: metal holds up better to the elements)
My bg-10’s have that button but the rubber seal is missing
The one that we just bought will have a key lock instead of a hex one.
My school fire alarm
see wood watch wasn't smacking a BG-10 it was NASA smacking a strobe cover

Yes, but NewAge _did_ throw a block of wood at a BG-10L in one video, demonstrating how easily it can be activated.
