To be fair, a lot of fun killing goes on between the two sides between the times these lines are spoken. Not a monologue unless you don't consider Chell's destruction of GLaDOS a form of rebellious speech. *End exaggerating imitation of refined discourse* Anyway, I still would hesitate to call GLaDOS's speech a monologue since it's in response to what is happening around her -- destruction leading to her own (temporary) demise.

Actually i think she's mentioning he Companion cube thing. How it seems that most aperture scientists were turned into them after they died. Plus they ARE sentient just like every other AI in the building... So what if they're just recycled FROM that data base she has?

I think it's quite subtle that the morality core on her was the only one that was entirely silent. It's the least important and most easily ignorable part of her personality.

Like a sort of "If A, then B" but completely ignoring a possible C->D? *If subject [dies], then [mark test complete]* but they totally skipped over the *if subject [completes all tests], then []* so instead of, idk giving you a celebration cake? Letting you go? she's stuck on "well.... I ran outta tests, but programming says that tests are only complete if the subject dies, so I gotta kill them". At least until you burn all her cores and she becomes more human. Then she's just Pissed.

There are cultures outside of The Old World's influence that used/uses based like Base 20 (such as Traditional Welsh), Base 15 (used by those who speak Huli in Papa New Guinea), Base 6 (in Ndom, also in Papa New Guinea), and even, though comparatively rare, Base 12 in a dialect of Gwandara called Nimbia. Even inside The Old World's sphere of influence, languages like French that goes from Base 10 to Base 20 in favor of counting large numbers.

So much raw emotion is conveyed in that brief cut of audio. It's actually impressive that they managed to make a robot like GLaDOS sound that genuine.

I like how each core you grab triggers her personality from each one. She doesn't mention curiosity until you grab the curiosity core. Her intelligence goes down when you incinerate the intelligence core. And her anger gets worse when you hold the anger core.

The biggest issue I have with the Half-Life TImeline is that Portal is after the 7 hour war. At the end of portal there is a big explosion, so wouldn't the Combine investigate the explosion? Maybe the explosion was too small to notice so it is sort of understandable, but why did the Combine not go to actual aperture instead of the Borealis? There is portal technology AT aperture, so going after the Borealis is kinda useless.

I saw it more as an emotional manipulation tactic, which we know is GladOs's main bag when it comes to dealing with humans. it's a classic abuser tactic, "it's a big scary world out there and i'm the only one who will protect you". She speaks about the Combine very vaguely because she doesn't know what they even are, much less how to protect anyone from them. She says so herself. If she did know, she would have said so in order to make Chell more afraid. The fuck of it is, pretty much the only thing Aperture has is the one thing the Combine wants more than anything; The portal gun. Stable, inter-dimensional teleportation technology.

I think it represents the tone of the game so well. Everything seems fine on the surface but there's just a lot that's off. The areas behind the tests, the silence only punctuated by fluorescent light bulbs, the lack of any other organic life, and the eerie feeling of always being watched makes you feel like you know nothing about where you really are. And once you think you know everything, GLaDOS turns everything on its head and tells you "the world you know has changed, and once you leave here, you're dead."

"What's going on out there will make you /wish/ you were back in here" *cue scene switch to combine controlled earth before Gordan Freeman was released from Stasis* (canon fact by the way)

Useless and somewhat creepy trivia: GLaDOS's "seductive" voice was actually an experiment to find the right voice for the turrets. Valve decided it wasn't right for the turrets, but was so good they kept it in as GLaDOS's "real" voice.

I think its interesting that the morality core being removed has her shift into a more human voice, almost implying how her ai being more human than machine was a detriment to her operating in a safe way
