Matt The Trout Whisperer Virgioni the goal was to torpedo the fish in the water so it has a burst of oxygen to its gills. If your fishing from a pier, there is no ground level to revive a fish. You see how salmon charters release their fish? They torpedo them in

I also have realized through out the years that the Chinooks in the Great Lakes are not line shy at all. As long as you toss something in fire tiger that really pisses them off, they'll hit. Right now I'm using 30Lb powerpro (8lb diameter) on a casting rig and I also will go either straight braid (day or night) and sometimes tie on a 2 foot Maxima Ultragreen 20LB leader... I tend to spend more money on the floro leaders when it comes to steelhead. But even in the streams when drifting skein for chinooks, I'll still use a 20lb Maxima ultragreen leader and the Salmon aren't shy at all. The key is to bring them in as quick as possible. And this is where the heavy gear comes in. Some people go way to light and the fish is exhausted after the battle and may even die. You're a darn fine fisherman my friend. Cheers to you.

Stovepipe I had to torpedo the fish in the water to get some oxygen in its gills. That’s what boaters do to get them revived. I would’ve revived the fish by tailing it but the rocks were to slippery to get down to water level to do that. The fish did revive on its own and swam off. If I released it close to the shore it would’ve been washed and banged up on the rocks
