Pop-Up Cabin- Building the Bunks!- Ep 2

SimpliSafe is award-winning home security that keeps your home safe around the clock. It’s really reliable, easy to use, and there are no contracts. Check out SimpliSafe here: simplisafe.com/theoutsider
In this episode, we build a set of bunks for our tiny "Pop-Up Cabin" from deadwood cedar that I collected. I also install a security system, talk about my grandfather, and discuss my future plans over a cup of coffee.
The Pop-Up Cabin Plans (PDF file) can be purchased at Teespring:
teespring.com/en-GB/pop-up-ca...
The comprehensive plans include 18 pages of step-by-step instructions, exact measurements, and clear diagrams, which show exactly how the cabin was assembled from the ground up.
We strengthened the design by giving the cabin a proper base and roof, which means no gaps under the walls and no more ugly tarp. :)
Special thanks to my brother who worked countless hours to professionally put these plans together, even staying up till the wee hours of the morning with me to make sure that every detail was perfect. Part of the money raised from these plans will go toward compensating him for his excellent work, and the rest will go toward supporting this channel.

I used to recommend Simplisafe, but then I found out they don't support original equipment with their newer systems. Only reason I mention this is because the smoke detectors are $30 a piece, just replacing those in my home would be upwards of $200. Homeowners should look elsewhere, if you rent or have something like a trailer they're decent.

Oh my word!!!!! Staying in a cedar cabin!!!! Must smell like heaven! My dad use to cut wood back in the day and i would always bring home a bag of cedar chips just to set next to my bed. This is amazing my friend. Very intuitive. Since i was a child I've wanted to just build cabin after cabin. Building and building puts me in heaven. And these ideas are amazing! Such bright people making life easier for everyone. Great job. You have a patent on your hands and you shared it with the world!!! If only there was so many more people like you my friend. Best of luck in everything you do. Most inspiring videos i have ever watched. And on many levels. Thank you.

The reason these plans excite me so much is because i go to Dialysis. My kidneys shut down. Been doing it since i was 22 and im 34 now! Still kicking. But i haven't been able to work since dialysis started. And that felt like my life was over. Felt like moving forward in life, without being able to work?!!! How?!! I use to lobster for a living and I couldn't have been any luckier. But i said there are ways i can still help people and make an income. I'll build buildings, sheds, anything anyone needs. But i can't afford to buy the materials on my fixed disability income. And im not as strong anymore either. But i saw your video!!! Cedar!!!!!?? YES! It's so light! I can move and lift most of it! Your amazing and genuine as heck, i can tell. Keep up the amazing love for your work and passions. Your helping the world. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.

when You opened the door after the bunks were in place, I applauded the sight, THIS little cabin is what I wished I had when I bought my property, rather than the tent I lived in for 7 months, I had to abandon it after we got 14 inches of snow and the roof collapsed, but this cabin would have got me through no problem. 20 years too late, but a worthy watch all the more.

Now all you need is two tv fold up trays for eating food on or shove the two trays together for playing cards or your computer on and then fold em up and put them on the floor under the bottom bunk or throw another couple of nails in the wall when you don't need them. Great idea to make them that would be kewl. Love love love your cabin design so portable and awesome plus it is so cute. Eventually a piece of 1/4" thick plexiglass (sp) in your window would be fantastic plastic does have a tendency to rip/tear over time. So proud of you and your father for doing such a beautiful job.

The pop-up cabin looks great. For the roof, how about some sheets of rigid foam insulation on top of the roof rafters and then the tarp again over the whole thing? You could pre-cut the foam into long narrow pieces and just nail them onto the rafters and if you want, put tape over the joints in the foam. Lightweight, easy to transport, relatively cheap, and would provide a fairly strong roof with great insulating properties. You could even get some think hardboard and glue it to the rigid foam ahead of time making the foam more durable under the tarp. Just thinking out loud here. Cheers from Tokyo!

Exactly what I was about to suggest, for all those reasons. I've made good use of rigid foam in the past, and with good UV protection, are reusable for many years. I have also bonded them to plywood sheets which avoids having to damage the foam itself while fixing.

So glad to see you installed a security system. Since watching these types of videos, I don't see any locks yet alone security systems. Kudos to you and your dad. Awesome job. 💯💯👊👊👏👏👏

14:43 - just imagine, the smell of the wood burning, then the smell of that coffee. You only need to bake some bread and you'd die of the sensory overload...

I'm going to look into the simplesafe system thanks to you! The friday before Christmas the van in front of my house was broken into and many of my tools were taken. I live on a remote farm with no Internet available and work nightshift. Every morning when I get home I'm never sure if the thief will have returned to break into my house! My life has been extremely stressful for this reason since this happened. Thank you for sharing and reminding me of how you helped your grandfather with a similar problem! God Bless!
