Overnight at the Pop-Up Cabin- Ep 3

Save 33% on your first Native Deodorant Pack + free shipping at bit.ly/nativeoutsider - just make sure to use my code OUTSIDER20
My dad and I traveled out to the Pop-Up Cabin where we dropped off our overnight gear, before continuing onto the main cabin. Our plan was to prep the log cabin for the application of mortar between the log courses. Once we had finished working for the day, we headed back to the Pop-Up to grab some supper and a good night's sleep.
The Pop-Up Cabin Plans (PDF file) can be purchased at Teespring:
teespring.com/en-GB/pop-up-ca...
The comprehensive plans include 18 pages of step-by-step instructions, exact measurements, and clear diagrams, which show exactly how the cabin was assembled from the ground up.
We strengthened the design by giving the cabin a proper base and roof, which means no gaps under the walls and no more ugly tarp. :)
Special thanks to my brother who worked countless hours to professionally put these plans together, even staying up till the wee hours of the morning with me to make sure that every detail was perfect. Part of the money raised from these plans will go toward compensating him for his excellent work, and the rest will go toward supporting this channel.

To say that the Outsider is rough on his cameras is a world class understatement. I have never seen anyone in the history of everything do the kind of things this man has done with his cameras. And the results make it all worth it. Absolutely incredible shots. To this day I remember the first time I saw him drop the camera from the roof two storeys down and the visceral feeling of panic I felt thinking “oh my god the camera is falling!”. Loved every second of it. And the shot it captured: priceless. The Outsider captures the crazy shots with his recklessness, and I love every second of it.

Oh, I forgot to say this. I am a quilter and love the quilt that you have. It is known as a log cabin quilt. Perfect! In days gone by, during the Civil War, Slaves on the Underground Railroad would know any home that had a log cabin quilt hanging outside and the center square was red or yellow, it was a safe place to lodge. Some many of the quilts from that era have stories. This is my favorite

Thank you for sharing that beautiful piece of history. I had no idea! Reminds us that hope always shines, even in the darkest of times. ...It's fitting that it is a "log cabin" quilt. It was made for me by my grandmother, and so I've always cherished it. Nothing beats the coziness of a quilt, especially one made with love in every stitch. 🙂

@@RoseThistleArtworks thank you. That's what I thought too, but the story of a quilt hanging outside seem to make me think it was outside somewhere. I guess back in the day they would air it out on a close line. Underground railroad is a interesting story, especially in Niagara on the lake, Ontario, Canada. Cheers

I am from the Deep South in Alabama. We have a lot of quilt stories here and my favorite are the Civil War Era quilts. Also, I am not too far from Gee’s Bend, a National treasure for homemade quilts. Look it up on KZread as there are many stories regarding these ladies that still hand sew every quilt. Mr. Outsider, that quilt your Grandmother made you is an heirloom. Cherish and take care of it and I am happy to see you using it. So many put quilts up and don’t use them, saving them for something. They are made to use and love!

I love how these videos are narrated and the way they are filmed. They always remind me of Richard "Dick" Proenneke's "Alone In the Wilderness" movie. That quite a compliment because that is a great documentary movie. (Especially for any fan of the outdoors/bushcraft or survival)

This is the first new video I’ve seen on the day it’s been published since I subscribed. I don’t know why one of your videos popped up in my suggested page, but since then I recon I’ve watched 70% of your videos. As soon as you started this video with “the thaw came earlier than expected this year” I knew what was coming and I got pretty excited. Can’t wait to see how you progress over the next build season. Thanks!

Watched you for so long - always enjoy your material - look after your dad especially with the covid-19 around - love the little pop-up cabin and could really identify with going to sleep with the various sounds you described. I hope Mrs Outsider is well and I pray that God protects you all through these difficult times.

One day, this will just be an adventure story told to our grandkids around our homesteads camp fire! I've bugged out with my family to. 500 acres of woodland sounded better than being forced to isolate within four walls for the next year. Take care and God bless

500 acres should keep you busy for a day or two! I've got 70 acres of land and have been studying organic farming. I plan to farm it. I'm tired of the tasteless perfect looking vegetables we get at the grocery store. Time to grow my own vegetables.

@@ClanGunnBushcraft I bought a couple of grain drills ( $ 300) that date back to the 1950's or earlier. One has the flat metal wheels and the other wood spoke wheels. They may not be modern day technology but the still work and that's good enough for me. The grain drill with the wood spokes was the guy's grandfather's. I'll remember that when I use it. His grandfather was probably very proud of owning it. As I bought these two grain drills, I got the feeling more and more people are returning to the land. I also see more and more people who have chickens.

Hi there! Just subscribed. I was fascinated by your first video of putting up the pop-up cabin. I can't believe it was so quick and easy to build/assemble. I hope you are all keeping safe, especially your dad, who seemed strong and healthy. My parents are both above 65 and I have asthma since birth so we are definitely hunkered down at home. Looking forward to the continuation of this saga. Cheers!
