6 months building cabin in the woods, off grid house start to finish
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
It's time to publish the complete construction of my cabin in the woods. The cabin has a stove, which means you can keep warm in any weather. The cabin has a bed and a table, which means there is a place to sit and sleep, there is a table for eating and cooking. All this I consider the basis for a comfortable stay in this forest cabin, and all the rest is small refinements and improvements, which I will do gradually. There were a total of 25 working days. If you count the days when I didn't work, it was 6 months. I started building the cabin in the last days of spring. Note that before that, I had never built before and had no idea if it would work out or not. It was a good start.

I am a 61 yr old lady, single, never married, watching this, and I have an Uncle who lives in Alaska who is an architect. He is 81 now. My Dad is 83. My Uncle designs all kinds of buildings and has won awards. I guess it runs in the blood that I love watching people create. I am also very creative, but not in the way YOU are. I did build a club house when I was 12 with my siblings from cast off wood from a construction site. The workers gave us all sorts of stuff! It was fun. Watching you build your cabin has been both educational and very enjoyable. I love watching young people do this sort of thing. Live off the land, and use their skills to be self reliant. It amazes me all the skill sets needed to do these things. Math--different abilities with math, such algebra, geometry and trig--which you probably do not even realize you are using. Engineering skills, wood working skills. Then basic survival skills. Farming skills to grow your garden. Just amazes me. Thanks for documenting your journey, yet another skill set, to film, edit and put together this video. Very smart. You are obviously very smart--well educated, I do not necessarily mean book smart--could be--you are just educated in the ways that you could teach others how to survive and build and be independant too. YOU have lots to share with others. YOU will be successful in all that you do. thanks for sharing! God bless!!
As my Dad would say “I’m not allergic to work…I can sit & watch it all day”. lol….anyway, I would love to be right there helping. Growing up I was always helping my Dad with everything…he was a very wise man & I learned so much from him. He taught me when you do something give it 100+%. I love your cabin!!! Now all you need is a outhouse!!

This is one of the rare videos on KZread that I watched without skipping even a single second; you truly are a master at this, my friend.
This is utterly astounding. All things are possible with God! Amazing
Amazing to see how even in the years 2022/2023 a single person can still build himself a home using a handful of basic materials and a handful of basic hand tools like hammer, handsaw, chisel, level, tape measure, etc. You’ve proven that it doesn’t take too many resources to create a long lasting home. 👍

Огромнейшая работа. Ты молодец и не тяп ляп, а стараешься по уму делать все. За качественный инструменты и одежду, отдельный респект, сразу видно человек максимально погружен в свое увлечение.
Very clear that we have a craftsman here with loads of commercial experience. Notice the importance he places in his movement, always calculating the energy required to push each task through to completion, with emphasis given to getting it right the first time. Not in a rush, but further ahead being the result. This presentation is worth regarding in its entirety.

I love the fact your building your dream space in the woods , just a note on cladding .tongue should be upwards groove upside down as water will sit in groove and rot it also I hope its very dry and sealed very well as shrinkage will pull tongue out of groove on warmer days plus one fixing at base of board as two nails top and bottom will make board split in the middle , one fixing allows timber to expand and contract and holds the board below
@mypersonaljournal
4 ай бұрын
I didn't know about the groove at the time). Thanks for the advice
Amazing work, especially that it was done entirely with hand tools. My late husband would've loved to have seen this. We always wanted a cabin in the woods.
14:36 - looks like you installed these lining boards upside down .. these locking grooves should face down, not up. Right now rainwater can penetrate into the joints of the boards, and in the long run make the walls rot .. which is no bueno at all. However, what impressed me the most was that this cabin was built with hand tools only .. most DIY builders would be helpless without modern things like a table saw, pneumatic nail gun, battery screwdriver and generator. Your tiny house looks nice and cozy .. well done!! 👍✌

Very nicely done! I very much have enjoyed watching this. One suggestion I have regarding the V-groove siding. It’s better to have the tongues facing upwards so that the water sheds off onto the surface of the siding. When you have the groove facing up, the water can flow down into the groove and soak into the siding. The way you did it isn’t a show-stopper, but this comment is for future reference.
