good vid man. mine is getting an eliminator kit. I have had mine since 2003, and have had a lot of problems out of it. reverse going out (fixed that like 3 times) starter going out...I don't know why they engineer stuff like they do..they must have gotten better with the success of their RZR line, but as fun as this bike is, the reliability isn't that great...but I am going to try to get mine back up to par!

I need some serious help with mine as well - I'm working on a 2006 Polaris Trail Blazer 250 (2-stroke) and nothing I do will make it run at all. It has good spark (even tried all new related electrics: coil, stator, spark plugs, plug wires, etc etc) no change. Checked the emergency throttle handlebar cut-off switch and it was fine. Has fresh top end, over 100psi cold compression (normal for this model when cold.) (New top-end didn't affect this problem either.) Cylinder was not damaged at all. Measured OEM stock diameter. Spark plug shows "spark" when out of cylinder. Spark plug gets damp, getting fuel, obviously and, carburetor is newly cleaned, rebuilt, all jets inspected, float level is spot-on. Fuel is flowing normally (I am very experienced with carbs.). Not even using the stock fuel tank (using a mechanic fuel bottle right now - and it works fine) But basically nothing I have done has affected anything. It will "try" to fire on the first pull (or push-button), then nothing but spin spin spin. Doesn't "try" to fire after the first pull. Been googling for hours all over - and so many people just END their discussion with NO reported fix of the problem. So dang frustrating that people won't say what fixed their problem. Don't even bother starting a thread if you aren't going to help other people viewing it months, years later. I replaced the crank seals as well. No change. Sheesh... (sorry but I am extremely frustrated here...) I have checked everything common in the world and this thing will not crank. Yes I know it needs: compression, air, fuel, spark, blah blah blah. It has all of that. Not cranking. Someone just report what they did to fix theirs if they had the same problem. Not looking for "guesses." Hate to sound all whatever, but I am pissed about this. I know how to work on stupid motors. Grrrrrrrrrrrr....

I wonder if it's getting too much fuel? If it tries on the first attempt it's drier, but the plug becomes too wet. You hate to use starter fluid, but does that cause it to try to start? I know sometimes when mine wouldn't start similar to what you say I was able to hold the throttle wide open as I tried the starter and eventually it fired up. It could be an adjustment on the carb. It tough to say since it's not in front of me and honestly I haven't messed with one in awhile. Good luck.

@@BigjermsGarage well, it has the recommended jets in it, and they are new and clean and clear. Float valve is new and works perfectly. The float level is fine as well. It's the OEM carburetor, and it has been ultrasonically cleaned, and rebuilt. I'm very good with carburetors. So I'm still stuck. None of this affected the problem either. Because it wasn't cranking before we did all this work.

@@BigjermsGarage I tried every combination. But we all know you don't touch the throttle on a cold engine. All that would do is flood it out. It didn't matter what sort of throttle I did. Carburetor is fully cleaned, rebuilt, jetted to OEM specs, float level is spot-on as well. I know carbs quite well and this carb is spot on. I'm seeking suggestions that make sense. And this one just doesn't. Nothing anyone has suggested has made any sense - or already been done and tried. So frustrated. It's not you... It's me... I could name 100 more things that are perfectly normal and fine on this thing. Doesn't seem to matter to it running. And I am just pissed about it.

i have a trail boss and we just put the new starter in. i try and pull start it but its really "stiff" i was wondering if this is what a top end going out feels like? we were able to get it running but it took a lot of starter fluid to get there. we rebuilt the carb. then it started to start rough and only with starter fluid. what ya think should be out check step? sorry if im vage. this is my first time work on atvs.

jake beaudry The primary clutch(on the engine) needs a puller tool, they're $15-20 shipped from eBay or Amazon. The secondary clutch(on the transmission) just slides off when you take the bolt out.

Troy's OHV Repair, Dolores Co. Can you just take the skid plate off to reach the bracket behind the clutch? Or do you absolutely have to pull the clutch? My starter (got the quad 4 days ago) isn't working, and the recoil starter started to not want to rewind (and I can't get the friggin screws off the inside of where it holds the spring in to see what's wrong). So I may have to get the starter, as that's cheaper than the friggin $300 recoil starter assembly.

  • @BigjermsGarage

MolonLabeUSA I might have a pull start to sell. You might be able to reach in there when the skid plate is off but it's gonna be tough. It's been awhile since I made this video, but off memory I think I had to get behind the clutch.

First, thanks for watching. I didn't edit this video, it was 20 min to remove the starter once I had the clutches off. I didn't walk around the garage talking about other bikes or ATVs, I went over this motor and the process to remove the starter. I apologize for not being focused enough. I feel that unless it was edited then it would have still taken the same amount time and doing it in silence might have been worse.
