    I just got one of these here in Australia, been sitting for years. I couldn't work out how to get the starter out. A big thanks, your video makes it so simple.

    When reassembling, leave the top bolt off. Someone did that for me on my 99 trailblazer. I replaced starter without having to take clutch assembly off...and it's still good 10 years later. You do NOT need that bolt!!

    Yep, it really looks easy when you skip over the really hard parts. He doesn't show the removal of the bolt for the pull starter that is behind the rear brake linkage because it's almost impossible to remove. Likewise, he doesn't show taking the secondary drive sprocket off after it's been in place for 25 years, nor does he mention that you need a similar tool to the one for the primary, and it's a 1"-12 thread at least 7" long. I found out all of this the hard way.

    I was able to replace the starter on mine by taking the skid plate off instead of the belt assembly, and going from underneath.

    How did you get to the long screw on the recoil assembly? The one behind the brake

    It seems like I have a bad starter on my 96 2 stroke polaris 400 sportsman. I am familiar with the removal of the starter, but I am considering doing a rebuild of the unit considering that either the brushes and or hold down springs are bad. Trying to minimize the teardown time and effort especially the recoil side with the chain that is in the way of its removal. I am wondering if I could access the end of the starter just from the primary secondary side and open the starter to replace the brushes and springs while it is still on the engine. It would be a time saver in the long run, plus save me some money from getting a new starter when I know that the bendix is good.

    good vid, I did mine just like you said using the threaded rod clutch puller, but instead of the whole unit poping off the cluch unscrewed and the back pulley stayed on. kinda stuck now

  • @rudijones

    @rudijones

    6 жыл бұрын

    Hey Jeremy, when you say the pulley stayed on do you mean the inside metal belt drive surface? It has what looks like cooling fins on the engine side right and juts a spindle sticking back at you? If that's the case it should have threads inside it as well from what i remember. If you use the clutch tool again it should pop this portion off as well as long as you can use a block of wood or something to stop it from spinning while you crank on the Removal tool.

    If you don't want to take the clutch off you can take the skid plate off and easily get to the starter. I think its faster

    Trying to find where the other brown ground wire goes from the stator up to the CDI and Coil up front? I know the one goes to the Coil ground up front. But there is a second short brown wire that splits off from that wire. Where does it connect? I can't find anywhere. Been searching the wiring diagram as well. Googling everywhere. Can't find it anywhere. 2006 Polaris Trail Blazer 250. See my video for what I am referring to. kzread.info/dash/bejne/pJ2GwceKZbvSds4.html

    Exactly what I was thinking. Made that mistake once but never again. Had to replace the starter on a Polaris magnum 325. Boy was that a pain in the ass. I also had to replace the carb. Absolutely no room to tune it at all. Runs good enough but not perfect but It barely ever gets used so I don’t care about it.
