The reason that your torque converter belt engages at idle is because it is on backwards. Those belts have an edge that has a bevel towards the tooth side, and an edge that is square cut. The edge with the bevel should go towards the engine, as that side of the driver pulley has a conical shape that it matches. Try flipping it end-for-end.

Both sides of the belt are beveled, it's probably just not adjusted correctly, belt deflection or belt to sheave clearance

LOVE invoking the name of @Mustie1, especially the "laying on of hands" comment! Also, kudos for mentioning the other fellow - I've caught some of his vids before today, but I *thoroughly* enjoy the idea of bringing up another YT producer vs the tearing of others down. I know you don't do negative vids, but they're out there, and I don't think it does our community any good. Keep doing the good work you're doing, Wes! It took me up until I was in my 50s to realize why I wasn't supposed to store on the floor...now it is mute. So everyone please calm down, even if I still have an old habit of storing my battery on wood, it's not gonna hurt it.... 💪😊👍 PS ... Hey Wes! Awesome to see you got it running! I have a brake master i’ll send ya for free to keep the project moving along. Also some things to note about the CVT clutch system. There is a specific clutch removal tool for the primary clutch. Can be had online pretty cheap, threads into the clutch and presses onto the crankshaft stub. ( I purchased mine from Dennis Kirk). When you take the clutch back off be sure to inspect all the weights and bushings for excessive wear. That system is the p90 style clutch system but many parts are interchangeable with the more common p85 systems found on Polaris snowmobiles of that era. Also important to note that belt alignment is critical as well as making sure the secondary clutch can float freely on the shaft. Torque spec on the primary clutch is right around 65ft/lb for future reference. As far as adjusting belt tension, there is not external adjustment on that system, there are shims that can be removed in the primary clutch to adjust the belt clearance but I promise you that you don’t want to hassle with that. The belt will wear in over time. As for the crank seals on that Fuji engine, I believe the case needs to be split to install them but I am not 100 percent certain.

Including the masters. Little bit costly but I’m saving my penny’s! Thank you for that info on the clutches @audiquatro that’s some golden bits of info!:) glad you got this one back on the road Wes! Best of luck in the future from WV!:)

Nice video and great work! I'm finishing up the revival of a Polaris Sportsman 500 HO that spent 7 years outside. The primary clutches tend to develop a ridge at the bottom of the sheaves where the belt doesn't make contact and causes them to catch the belt at idle, especially with a new belt.

  • @allanvaneste6039

The MIC carb is made by mikuni. Very popular on snowmobiles. The emulsion tube as you called it comes out through the top of the carb. Pull gently with needle nose pliers. They do tend to get stuck. To check crank seals spray carb cleaner around seals and listen for a change in the idle.

I use apple cider vinegar to clean out rusty gas tanks. I also put nuts in there and shake the mix around like crazy. I let it soak for a day or two then I dump out the vinegar and flush it out with water. It works pretty good and I like that the vinegar is not bad to dump out on the ground, like some of the chemicals that are for this purpose.

Hey Wes make sure the vent hose for the oil tank is not plugged on the trail boss I fixed one up that was sitting for a while and the vent was plugged. Causes a vacuum in oil tank and the motor burns out. Also you put bigger bolt in center of the clutch to get the clutch off. love your videos always learn lots

You can make a primary puller out of a piece of 3/4" fine all thread and nut about 1' long. The clutch is threaded internally, just weld the nut on one end and use it to push the clutch off. We have 3 of these we ride with our grandkids, a 250 and two 400 scramblers. They are awesome!

Another great video. That looks like a Mikuni VM carb very popular on two strokes. Remove the main jet and flat washer and the emulsion tube comes out the top. You could pressure test the motor. Plenty of videos available. The extra smoke could be transmissions oil from the right side crank seal. Thanks as always for your efforts.

Good save, Wes! Yes, lots to do yet but maybe at least the rear brake system can be cleaned out and made to work. It would be a good parts buggy/runner or mobile service robot anyway. I'd hope to find a similar barn find/save in my area. Could definitely put one to use! Good video!

I have the red two fifty I think that number is correct as its so old yet runs like new. Course it didn't hurt cause it laid in the back of someones garage for years never rode. I found it and traded for it and then loosened one valve up and hit the switch and it started so easy that you would of never known it sat for so long. Now I am replacing the handle for the brake and the throttle handle as I stepped on it trying to get over a fender on my pickup. So it sat again for about three most. I still might be able to ride as my feet don't work anymore.... I like all your videos so keep em coming

ATV's (We call them Quad bikes) are a learning experience, I have an early Yam Kodiak 400 4x4 thats due some love after sitting in the weather for 4 years and I made damned sure I had ALL the service books for her. She was a good thing when we had the farm and worked hard so I kept her when we moved to town.

I have a 6x6 version of this and its been endless problems. Some tips for you if the petcock on the tank is plastic replace it with a metal one, just measure the hole spacing and find a generic one that fits as the barb the fuel line goes on will break. Also the ETC throttle I would remove from circuit, it's a small micro switch that has a thin tiny piece of metal pressing on it which will break off. Also be carefull of your wiring loom the one we have got the green death inside the cable sheaths, heated up and melted the wiring loom together. If it's chain drive make sure the chain is tensioned and lube it with gear oil. Also make sure there's oil in the gearbox otherwise shifting gears becomes a pain in the ass. Otherwise they're ok but if you live outside of the states good luck getting parts for a reasonable price.

Loved it!!! Reminded me of when I took apart a Yamaha 250!!! Two things: check the spark arrestor in the back of the expansion chamber (muffler) and HOW much pre mix was there? I would think it should be 50:1 but go with whatever the manufacturer says!!! 40:1 won't hurt anything but the air!!!
