I used to work on very high precision money making machines. Repeatability within microns. People that worry about the suspension on trucks delivering machine tools should see how some of those machines got delivered! Why yes, your multi million dollar machine has just been delivered on the back of a decades old truck held together with hopes and dreams and driven for miles down unpaved roads. It's then been unloaded with the world's jankiest forklift driven by someone that can't read the "don't lift here with a forklift" sign, swung through the side of the factory by a crane and extracted from the crate by a couple of apes with a sledge hammer (if I had a friend!). I'm sure that's great for precision! The machines were sensitive enough once set up you could tell if the floor was settling by the change in their output quality, and they were chunky beasts.

You can tap on the crank sensor while it’s running with a long extension and generally if it’s bad , it will stumble or die.

What I have found with most Chinese aftermarket carbs is they aren’t bad quality, they just aren’t tuned when shipped. A lot of installations result in poorly running engines that people blame on the carb quality when all it takes is some carb tuning.

You are very talented. A smart man knows his limitations. Organize your business, your shop and get rid of all the distractions. A "country" repairman gets enough stuff thrown at him from his regular customers. Learn to say "no". Again I appreciate you as a good, thoughtful mechanic and want you to be financially financially financially

Wes, you're correct about this. Lots of mechanics don't know this about Ford's V8's. The next thing with this era of Ford V8's is the firing order. They DON'T all fire the same way. They're as follows 13724568 and 15634278. You've got to be careful with this when it comes to doing tune ups on Ford's V8's of this time frame. I've seen many mistakes made this way on Ford V8's. All newer Ford V8's after around '73 use the latter firing order mentioned above. Keep up the good work 💯.

Really does look like it "ran when parked" so rare to have the issues actually end up being from sitting for years. From my experience "ran when parked" usually means it ran till it stopped and was just left sitting for years.

Gotta say ... I cringed watching you take the machining center off the trailer. Reminded me of the time a CNC lathe got away from me. Fortunately, it didn't go far and was not damaged .... can't say the same for the wall it hit. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Hi Wes, we've been watching your videos for ages and heard many times that people want you to not talk during the making of your videos. What can we say other than PLEASE PLEASE NEVER STOP TALKING!!! Ever. Your sense of humor is delightful and we like how teach. We're old people (really! 74! That's old😊) those who are telling you to do silent movies HAVE to be younger than us and who knows better the young "kids" or older people who have waaaay more knowledge than they do? I mean really! Plus if they listened a little they might just learn something. Next thing our minds are screaming to tell you is we sincerely appreciate your honesty. If you screwed up, you tell us. We believe you are as honest with your customers are you are on your videos. Please never change.

This is why I stick to cars built before 2006. If I could afford it I’d have another classic. New cars are just junk, we’ve gone backwards since the late 90s/early 00s

I know this is years down the line and you've probably been told this a thousand times by now. But the "resistor" that was open circuit is a "thermal fuse", basically it's a piece of solder in a metal container, if it gets too hot, it melts and sends you off to buy a new gizmo. It isn't involved in the speed control of the motor, it's just there to get you to spend money. Bridge it out, it'll work fine. They put them in everything now, the hope being that you'll throw whatever they're in away and buy a new one. Oh, and by the way, please keep talking :)

If I were wealthy I would instantly send you enough money to restore the Insley! I know you must think that is stupid but once you accumulate another 40 years you may come to a clearer understanding of the poignancy of such a whimsical wish, you know, the intrepid white knight defending the helpless against the seemingly irresistible onslaught of entropy, or something like that. Talk it over with your son. He is still young enough to understand.

APIM stands for Accessory Protocol Interface Module. It is responsible for many things like reading HVAC and steering wheel buttons as well as acting as CAN bus gateway for the SYNC CPU (CCPU) that controls the touch screen. There are two microcontrollers/CPUs in the APIM, one for the CAN bus / LIN bus and the other that controls the screen. It is a complex and antiquated system that should have been re-engineered 10-15 years ago. Who knows how long Ford will drag it into the future?

Your channel is a breath of fresh air. I'm tired of watching clean, sterilized videos of KZreadrs fixing a car without showing any of the actual struggles. It creates a false narrative to those who want to start working on their own stuff. I kinda feel like car KZreadrs need to start being more transparent about the real life obstacles. What if you only have one vehicle and need that vehicle daily? Making a mistake could be devastating to that particular person.
