    Hi, great vid, explains lots, I have approx 2500 Miles and about 190 hrs on 2011 Sportsman Touring.I drive like my grandmother, and I don't feel any slippage yet. Typically when do you recommend a belt change, and can I just change belt or do I need to change out those springs as well. Does the ready rod and yolk that you used on the vise come with the kit, and if not, where can I buy one? Thanks for any help you can assist with.

    Every time you have your Polaris primary off you should service or replace the one way bearing in the Center. It is very prone to failure, the first sign is the machine will begin to be hard to shift between H, L and R. If you leave it too long when you stop the machine will stall in gear. The bearing will completely fail and destroy the shaft thus needing to replace the entire clutch. To get at the bearing you will have to remove the spider which needs a special tool. I have heard that blowing your primary out with air can force belt dust down into the one way bearing causing it to fail prematurely.

    The one way bearing completely failed on my 2017 850. Also the one way bearing started to fail on my 2003 500 and my 2009 500 New bearing is 80$ and the spider tool is 80$ - but a new primary clutch is 500$

    I do not own a 850 polaris, ive only test rode a few, but the clutch engagement is noticeable different then my 2008 800 outlander or my dads 2003 650 prairie..... now isn't there a difference in a polaris cvt that the belt is stationary at idle and the primary is turning and the secondary is not in motion and what im hearing is the secondaries engagement when the rpm's are up enough for it to grab. noticed it at test ride's anoka atv fair 2012 & haydays 2012

    Actually all 3 of those machines work on the exact same princable you explained for engagement and how they work from what i have noticed is the can-am is clunky and has a jerk when changing gears (very common complaint) compared to the 850 Sportsman. They could have had a worn clutch if it was noisey. Just goin off my experience with both machines.

    When I shift my 2013 850 xp into gear, F or R, and apply throttle I hear a loud pop as it engages. Is this normal? I thought it might have been a bad belt, but that was good, the two clutches were clean and this is why I'm asking.

  • @EPIperformance

    @EPIperformance

    3 жыл бұрын

    Some noise can be normal when you are switching between forward and reverse. There are a lot of things in the driveline that can cause this or a lot of times its a combination of a few of them due to the driveline slop. Things like the clutches and belt being worn and/or dirty, the tranny itself, ujoints/ yokes being worn, front and rear diff's, and axles can all attribute to it. All you can do is take a deeper look into each part. For example the clutches - you cleaned them which was good but inspect the belt, inspect the primary rollers and bushings and the secondary rollers (both internal and external).

  • @EPIperformance

    On the 850 and 1000 Sportsmans and Scramblers they turn the opposite direction as the normal Polaris clutches so there are less parts out there. But I think the Scramblers use a two way that might interchange but I don't know that for sure.

    how can you inspect and check for replacing the primary clutch?

  • @EPIperformance

    @EPIperformance

    You can check your clutch bushings for ware, also check the one way bearing to make sure it spins smoothly one way and locks up the other way. Also check for grooves worn into the sheave of the clutch in the primary. Make sure the rollers spin freely but are not wobbly loose up and down. Hope that helps some.

    How do you get the spider bushings out?

  • @EPIperformance

    @EPIperformance

    3 жыл бұрын

    To get the spider out you need a couple different tools. You will need a clutch holding tool EPI part number 358B, a spider tool part number 341 and if your clutch has a jam nut you will also need the 338 jam nut tool. Some of those have a jamnut and some dont. If you go to our website www.epiperformance.com or our youtube we have a video on doing a clutch rebuild which would show you the process. IF you are doing it on a 550, 850, or 1000 Scrambler or Sportsman the clutch spins the opposite direction when taking the spider off.

    What is the performance gain from doing this?

  • @EPIperformance

    @EPIperformance

    7 жыл бұрын

    Hi Josh, It depends some on what kit and tire size you are using but all the kits will give you better low end and midrange power and acceleration, faster backshift and throttle response and will grip the belt better then stock. If you have larger tires then stick it will help make up for the power loss of the larger tires. Let us know if you have any questions.

  • @EPIperformance

    @EPIperformance

    Changing springs will change how fast or slow the clutches open and close. They also effect engagement, top rpms, belt squeeze and overall performance so it is important to have the correct set up that has been tested together to gain the best overall performance and clutch operation.

    Hi Dany, That machine uses a special puller that you wont find in auto parts stores but any motorsports/powersports store might have or can also order one for you. You can use an OE Polaris puller or the EPI part number PCP-12 for the 850's. You can also install the kit without the puller it just is a little harder and takes two people.

  • @EPIperformance

    @EPIperformance

    That is normally one of three different things. #1 In most cases it is that the one way bearing in the center of the drive clutch is locked up or worn out. #2 the incorrect belt for the machine, double check the part number to see if correct. #3 The drive clutch is worn or dirty and not full disengaging. Try cleaning it and inspecting for ware.

    kzread.info/dash/bejne/aJiMsMdperSThdI.html It is 95% the same on the 2017 The link goes to the 2017 Sportsman video. On the 2017 you have to lift the rear fenders up about an 1 1/2 inches to get enough clearance to get the clutch off. And there is no snap ring holding the secondary spring in the clutch, the spring and helix will come out at the same time under tension. If the link doesn't work you can go our you tube page and find it under the 2017 Sportsman.
